Civilization Beyond Earth or Euro Track Simulator 2?

I've always liked games that allowed me to set up my own trading empire and deliver various goods between cities. The first Euro Truck Simulator has been a perfect game for me for a long time but I feel like I've seen everything the game has to offer by now. I thought about getting the 2012 edition of the game but I'm affraid it could just be more of the same.

Then I heard about the newest Civilization game and its amazing trade route system, praised by many players. While the game doesn't seem to allow a realistic driver's experience like Euro Truck Sim does, I feel the management of sheer number of trade routes available could be enough to occupy me for a long time.

From what I gather there are even some additional objectives in this game, like building my own cities (could be interesting!) or constructing vehicles other than trade convoys. Are those features polished enough to make up for the lack of first-person driving?

All feedback is appreciated!

I would say: wait for the Christmas sale and get both at the same price! :D

Go with CivBE. Unlike Euro Truck, you can also manage ships! It's very immersive.

I've also heard rumors of a DLC to add "Trade Satellites" for an additional layer of clickable fun.

While BE unfortunately doesn't feature the realistic first person trucker view made famous by ETS 2, the fact the game is so sublimely polished and balanced to perfection in all other areas make it entirely worthwhile. I'd say get it now, before it goes on sale - Firaxis deserves your every penny for this masterpiece. In fact it's so good they put a giant GO BEYOND EARTH button on the victory screen of their lesser trade route simulator "Civ V" just so people like you wouldn't miss out on this lifetime opportunity.

GO BEYOND EARTH TODAY

I have them both, so I say play BE and then play ETS2 and pretend you are driving a truck on an alien planet :)

Yep. Watch out for the aliens though. The future of trade rests on ultrasonic research. Just attach one on your track or ship and you'll be fine. :)

Id say that Goat Simulator is a better trading simulator than Civ BE too.

Find a vehicle, lick it. You are now attached to the vehicle. Vroom vroom, you go where the vehicle goes.

Firaxis just need to get better developers back for future Civ games.

I never could understand why people play games like truck simulator, sports games or racing ones. Want to become a trucker? Go for it. Want to play some sports? What's stopping you? Want to so some racing? There's a lot of tracks for that everywhere! At least in Europe, don't know about other parts of the world. Why get a simulation when you can easily do the real thing? The same goes for games like counter strike. Paintball, airsoft, other things like that...

With Civ games it's different. If you are not Hitler, Hussein or Putin, people get annoyed when you invade other countries. The first two suffered a bad end, the 3rd one will be getting it too. I'm not following in their steps! Especially that we still lack some technologies required for CivBE scenarios.

For the same reason people play with Guitar Hero instead of learning to play a real guitar.
It's a lot less difficult and it takes a lot less dedication.

The vast majority of people gets bored as soon as something requires more than 30 minutes to learn.

Oh and it also costs a lot less money.

Because I can just go out and drive a ferrari or lamborghini whenever I want, or join my local professional sports team and go for the cup/bowl/pennant, or etc...

Hi there, Paszczak!

Trade routes in Beyond Earth were indeed a spectacle to behold, pumping an unbalanced but amazingly useful set of resources from city to city, city to outpost and city to station. For many leaders, these trade routes were the lifeblood of their gameplay, and they got used to the ease of use of these magnificent economic ley lines.

However, the construction giant FRXS in their wisdom recently chose to nerf the output of these excessively lucrative routes, which means your potential enjoyment could be reduced! They also changed the construction rules for building a Trade Depot, which has alarmed many because they can no longer bribe black market officials for the extremely expensive nano-materialiser that caused buildings to appear overnight, to build their Depot instantly.

Nevertheless, there are still a great deal of potential trade routes in this game, and if you're worried you could always go with Polynesia as your benevolent sponsor - their overseas contacts and aptitude for the free market grants them extra trade routes from their capital - perfect for a discerning gentleman like yourself!

It is indeed an engrossing situation here on this new Planet. I advise you join us, and contribute to building a better world!

Some people also have mental and physical disabilities that prevent anything but simulating such things, are too old or young to do some things legally or due to health concerns, or they don't feel the need to be everything in an age when you can get a taste of almost anything via computer simulations allowing them to explore a thousand worlds before they pass away.

Exactly, why play paintball when Syria, Iraq, various African/south American nations are merely a short plane flight away.

(Or Eastern Ukraine if you want some winter war)
