So, I got a new laptop, and I tried to install RAND, but after installing through dbkblk's easy installer, I get tons of errors when the mod loads up.

Now, I have ran RAND successfully through two different computers, but what makes it different this time is that I am using the steam version. I do not know if these errors are related to the steam version or not.

I thought, I would reach out before spending the next few hours figuring out what is going on. Maybe some else has had these problems.

Here is a screen shot of two of the errors. These errors repeat them selves many many times, but for different files.

First obvious question: this is windows, right? Mac Civ4 does not support most mods.

Next: Switch to the previous release of the game in steam. In your game library, right click -> properties -> betas -> unsupported release.

Basically Firaxis released a steam-only update to remove GameSpy, and it breaks some features of mods. Changing back to the unsupported, older version of the game fixes the issues.

Last: You are running the game as administrator, right?

Thanks Afforess, I did not know that. Unfortunately, even changing that, I still got these errors. It is very weird. I have successfully ran RAND on my desktop (Windows 8.1) and my other laptop (Windows Vista). I do not know why it will not work on my new one (Windows 8.1).

I moved the mod file from Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword/Mods/ to the mod file in the program directory, and now everything run fines. For some reason Civ IV was unable to access the files in documents. I do not know why. I will just blame steam.

Thanks.

Hello there,

(I had to create a new account because my old one (Bal-rog) obviously is associated to an e-mail address out of use for a long time now and I can't figure out my password.)

Lately I started to receive these error messages too... Windows 7, NON-Steam version. Moving the mod folder didn't help either and it seems the unmodded game has it too. There are lots of similar error messages, basically of these two types.

The problem appeared since I updated the mod with the Spanish caravel fix (682?) with the updater.

I try to reinstall everything from scratch and get back with the result.

Best,
Rog

My error messages were because Civ IV was unable to read the mod files. For some reason, Civ IV with admin access on a non-admin protect directory was unable to access those important files. Why my Civ IV was unable to read a folder in My Documents is beyond me.

If you are getting the same errors as me, then reason is the same. I got so many errors, I would stop the game from loading because it was just too many. I suggest turning UAC off (at least for a quick test) and then trying to run Civ IV.

Hmm... Thanks! I will give it a go. The strange thing is, it was working before without any problem. then suddenly stopped.
Which version of the mod did you use? I used the updater lately.
I'm in the reinstall process now...

As I said, it is not a Steam version, so I in this case it might something to do with a Windows update, maybe?

You might try to reinstall using the latest version (just overwrite). I've fixed a couple of bugs lately that might fix your problem:

Basically, update was broken on some systems when the launcher updated so you might have encountered partial update. There's no reason the game cannot acces My Documents. However, the issue can come from elsewhere.

Thank you, guys!
The problem seems to be solved, I reinstalled everything using the new updater. For safety I directed the mod files into the main game library instead of the My documents one.

Everything is working fine now, even performance seem to be better, I'm having a blast.

Again thank you for the kind help, much appreciated!

Best

Rog
