This faction might be an interesting candidate for something like the FfH "Fallow" trait. The general idea is that they don't use food and grow by... other means. In this case, I'm not sure if harvesting slaves, or building more robots would be more appropriate.

Maybe they could have an upgradable palace which requires a "genius" slave to upgrade.

This faction could also vary a lot depending on the leader. You could the crazed Calculator, "The Warrior", or Simon Barnaky, all with different play styles.

these could also be traits that get picked up along the way.

My basic thinkng with these guys at the moment is something along the lines of they don't have cities (except a capital) but they build 'forts' and improvement 'spawn points' that generate units every X turns.

So you would have scarab spawn points and 'humanoid' spawn points, and the really nasty robots would only be built in Vault 0

I also think it would probably have an 'auto raze city' feature, so any city that gets caught goes poof!

I think they would also need some kind of system that makes them start later i nthe game, or far away from everybody.

I have seem some different mods and modcomps do this sort of thing.

Like the armageddon clock in FFH2

But this will be the last of the three new factions to be worked on.

Maybe production could be used as their food. Raw Materials = More Robots

Then building any unit would halt city growth obviously, but that would make sense. The robots under construction are going to be used for that unit.

Chances are I won't do anything too drastic in terms of base mechanics (like swapping yield functions), I will just change the way they are produced.

So for example we could have food yield represent power, so food would be produced by solar arrays or other such improvements.

They would only really require 'food' for growing to make use of their initial tiles and specialists, as the robots themselves will not consume population.

But yes, there units could all consume 'food' and hammers when being produced.
