Okay this is a new game I thought of a while back but until yesterday didn't know how to do it in the Editor but I think I figured it out.

The concept: There is NO IRON on the map - the implications are obvious I think but here are a few key items:

  • NO Swordsmen
  • NO Medevil Infantry
  • NO Rails
  • NO Knights
  • NO Pikes
  • NO Factories (and all the add ons)
  • NO Ironclads or Frigates or Privateers
  • NO Cannons or Coastal Forts

I am sure there are other things I am missing but those I think are the key ones for why there is no Iron.

I want to fight with archers, longbows, horses and spears. The tech pace will be slowed and the only playable civs US or AI will be any or all below:

  • Greece
  • Carthage
  • Aztecs
  • Egypt
  • Zulu
  • Iroquois
  • Babylon
  • India
  • Mongols
  • Vikes
  • Korea

All have relatively early UU's and do not require Iron.

The only victory conditions allowed are conquest and domination!

I haven't played this out the entire game but I think the concept is interesting and would like to see it played out in a SG.

One more thing I played with the barbs a bit - they are archers now ;) !

Don't forget that you cannot build factories. Might make you think what to do (if the game goes that far) with ToE--since electronics for Hoover will be useless.

BTW, I am signing up--what will that keep it--4 SGs that you and I are in?

I vote we do without industrious, and forgo Iroquois (MW is probably too powerful here--maybe not with two 3 defense UU civs). I like the Zulu--with Impi/horse pairs--would make for some fun warmaking. I also vote for no babs, egypt, or india (though india would be fun) since I have other SGs with these.

Can't think of anything else right now.

If it goes that far we are in deeper trouble than I thought.

Okay Bam-Bam your in!

FWIW: I started a game with the zulus. Haven't really ever played with them and I am dying to try out the imp/horse combo.

We can also add Vikes but I think they are too strong without pikes around. The other AI could be Mongols or Korea. I am trying to get all Civs with their GA in the Ancient times or Early Middle ages.

Keep it on emperor, the crew you draw would tear up Monarch too easily. Arabs need iron for Ansar warriors. Mongols do not need iron for Keshiks, but they are weaker, on defense, so could be ok...

IMO--Mongols and Indians would be very powerful once chivalry is learned. Korea or England would be a challenge--since neither would have a UU to rely upon in the game.

Okay we can agree on Emperor: Yep I swapped arabs and Mongols and actually the Man-O-War needs Iron too. Goes to show you how many times they get built.

We can take them all and just play on a large or standard map that is a bit more croweded.

[edit] Once a team is set we can finalize our civ, the AI civs map size and type etc.

After our great success ion HOT4 II would like to join you in this one too.

As for Settings: Either standard with 7 or large;
Civ: no real preference as long as we aren't the Vik's cause they are far too powerfull. Zulu would be fine by me;

I would like to join..
The star-spangled game is almost finished and I need a new challenge, so if you want me...
Btw we should not play India as their knights (elephants) do not require iron. We would be too strong :)

Current Roster:

Bam-Bam
Hotrod
Rowain deWolf
Banzai
????? (looking for 1 more)

Civ will be Zulu. Still taking input on the AI opponents. Looking at 7 others on a standard map. Possibly continents or Pangea.

We are the Zulu!

Standard Map -
Large Continents
Normal
Temperate
5 Billion
Restless Archer Barbs

Emperor Game with Seven Random Rivals from the Above list. ;)

Stupid internet connection--I ended up playing 4 hours of Epic 28 last night because my @#$#@ internet connection wasn't working--so now I am up in 3 SGs!

Got it--will play this evening.

Hotrod--though I would love to start this one, LK48 will get all my focus tonight. If I am lucky to get that done early enough, then I would get to this. But with the Cup final, that is not bloody likely.

If you want it to start tonight, then take it. Otherwise, I can guarantee I will get to it tomorrow. (BTW--did you have to edit the map? If so, do you need to wait to avoid spoiler issues? I ask this knowing that you would want to avoid prior knowledge, and I am not familiar with the editor, so I don't know what you do to eliminate Iron.)

Nope no map edits completely random scenario! I am not up in anything tonight so I will try to go tonight.

Took awhile for me to figure it out but it works.

Thanks, Hotrod. I am guessing that LK 48 will comsume all of my civving tonight.

And welcome to Banzai and Aggie! Glad to have you on the team! This should be an interesting variant :crazyeye:

HOT5

4000 BC (0): Scout moves south and to the mountain top to look around. See some fur and floodplain wheat. Move settler East.

3950 BC (1): Scout pops the hut and we get CB. Found Zimbabwe and start research on Bronze and star a second scout. This reveals another hut.

3900 BC (2): Some exploring

3850 BC (3): ditto.

3800 BC (4): Find the West coast will head SW.

3750 BC (5):

3700 BC (6): Builds a scout starts another. Hut gives us Mysticism. Scout is heading NE.

3650 BC (7): Hut to the SW gives a settler will send him to the furs it is a long journey and hope I don't see any barbs. Contemplate settling right here but think it is too far away to be of any use, the silks are nice but forest and jungle seperate that spot from the core.

3600 BC (8): Meet the Aztecs they have nothing for trade and 10 is too little for Mysticism.

3550 BC (9): Spot a brown Boarder to the south.

3500 BC (10): Build a scout start a fourth. Find the Aztec Capital and some ivory to the NE and see the boarder but no contact in the south.

3450 BC (11): Contact with Carthage. Mysticism and pottery for Alphabet and 10 gold.

3400 BC (12): Contact with India, sell WC for 10 gold. Contact with Iroquios sell Wc for 30 gold. Lux to 10%.

3350 BC (13): Settler is in position on the furs. More exploring. Buy an indian worker for Pottery and WC. There were 2 so he still has one.

3300 BC (14): Build a scout start a warrior. Start a chop for the granary. Found Ulundi on the furs. Start a warrior.

3250 BC (15): More exploring, see more jungle silks to the south.

3200 BC (16): Trade Mysticism to Iroquios for Bronze Working and 5 gold. Research to the Wheel, gotta find the horses.

3150 BC (17): Build a warrior start granary.

3100 BC (18): More exploring.

3050 BC (19): Ulundi builds warrior starts worker.

3000 BC (20): Not much...

Just realized the chop was poorly timed :( the slave is not as fast and there will be 5 turns left after the granary is completed for the chop to finish. I would plan to use it for a temple.
