Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 116
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the 116th game in the GOTM V Training Series! This Series will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these features from Civ5's expansions and DLCs in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by date and score). We will issue medals to the top 3 winners (based on earliest date finished). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

File Upload System
We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "just one more turn" feature) Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.

This game runs for a month and ends September 15th, 2015.

The save will be available for download on August 15th, 2015, midnight Central Standard time (UTC -6:00) in the US.

The Save can be found here.

Yes, redemption! A prince science game! With three 2f1h tiles in the starting radius! And one of my favorite OP Civs. I'm not messing around this time, no stupid hybrid strategies or experimentation, I need to master the basics and blast off before turn 250 at the latest. Can't wait to see if anyone can pull this off pre-turn 200.

Can't wait to see if anyone can pull this off pre-turn 200.

Without mountain in cap, average land and no science civ I'm sure no one will do sub 200t.

Also prince is probably not very good difficulty for fast finishes (without high difficulty RAs, gold from AIs, etc; and without low difficulties tech discounts, easy conquering, etc.)

Looks like an easy run to GL provided there is a CS near by to provide a worker. I cant see moving. There isnt anything here to generate faith so i will wait on a shrine

There is a pantheon for faith from pearls.

After playing England in the DCL, there's simply no way I can play a non-Domination romp&stomp, England are top 5 most vicious warmongers in the game because the Longbows dominate the map

I suggest food from camps as pantheon, that would make the Deer extra good and with all that forest around, there's bound to be some more nearby. Rush Stonehenge to secure a religion, then push out settlers as normal

I agree, England makes me want to warmonger, too! Would have been fun to have an archipelago/water map though, we played a lot of Pangaeas in the recent TSGs.

Just out of curiosity, who are the other top 5 warmongers in your opinion? Huns Romans...?

I'm trying to download the SaveGame, but get the following message:

"Sorry, file TSG116_Start.Civ5Save is not available."

Ooopps....
I though today was the 15th. Nevermind.

(And I was going to edit the previous post, but used the wrong text box. Sorry.)

Lack of food. :(
Trade ships and HG will be the key.

Hanging Gardens shouldn't be a problem on Prince Difficulty. Wonder-spamming should be easy when its necessary. Great Library and National College back to back possibly if timed right, then Great Lighthouse, Temple of Artemis, and Hanging Gardens. This is England, so Great Lighthouse and Exploration opener are necessities for those awesome ships of the line.

Pangaea is actually very good for England because Longbows are too good not to be used.

My personal preference:

Mongolia
China
Huns
England
Zulu

With this being a Pangaea you shouldn't need SotLs.

AAARGH! This is the detail I forgot to change?! It's actually a Continents map.

Sorry everyone! I hope I didn't waste too much of your time if you practiced on Pangea. My apologies.

HR

ahh,, this being continents makes it a lot more interesting now! i was wondering why it would be pangaea again, with england... :D

I did 8 practice games on Pangaea trying to get better at the early game. I guess I'll have to do continents practice now.

I too did some practice games, and right now I am a little disapointed with the way that I start. I'm excited to try something different than my immortal/deity openings in this game, so my overall strategy is to go wide through military. Take key capitals along to way, probably 2. I need to avoid warmonger penalties so I will focus on taking out civs that hate warmongering, or maybe wars will be early enough that I can wipe out an entire continent with longbowmen before the 'world knows of my sins.' I am ok with slow science from the beginning (rather than rushing GL to get NC). I am going to focus more on faith and culture through wonders and CS, which will establish a strong foundation for purchasing GS after rationalism. Culture is also going to be important to work through the policies I need to generate early happiness and late game science. I also want to get to theology fast to get hagia sofia, but Temple of Artemis and a worker steal is a must.

Policies: Trad (opener), Liberty (opener), Republic, collective rule, aristocracy or citizenship
Early Game Wonders: Temple of Artemis, Colossus, Hanging Gardens, Hagia Sofia
Tech Order: Pottery, Animal Husbandry, Mining, Trapping/Sailing, Bronze Working, Archery, Trapping/Sailing, Writing > Theology > Machinery
Build Order: Scout, Monument, Shrine/Granary, Settler, Temple of Artemis, Settler, Settler, Unit Pyramids or worker...

As far as the start, will probably settle in place and pantheon will probably be food from camps or hammers from work boats.
