America is a husk of its former self. For 16 years the United States was ruled by a brutal, communist dictatorship. Democracy, freedom of speech, and the American way of life are suppressed by the totalitarian state. In 1944, Eisenhower overthrows the communist Earl Browder in an attempt to restore some semblance of peace among the nation’s citizens. For a few years they attempt to press on, but America was pushed too far. The brutal communist rule and then immediate return back to capitalism shook the people to their very core. Fed up with the government at hand, the United States fractured and divided. First weakened by the war to end communist rule, and now destroyed by its own facilities. The once united states of America now name themselves as a part of 4 different countries. The socialist, democratic USSA in New England, the spiritual successor to America, the Kaskaskia Confederation, an autocratic nation based in the rolling plains of the Midwest, the Dixie States, a virulently racist dictatorship in the South, and the Lemnitzer Regime, a brutal totalitarian state comprising what used to be the capital lands of America. These states now define themselves as separate, but as cooperative, under the United States Pact. Will you break this pact and try to restore America to its former glory? Or will you perpetuate the idea that America will no longer be what it was?​

This PBEM uses the mod by CaterpillarKing et al. which is based off of the amazing hit Civ 4 story America: Write Your Own History by Royal Tenenbaum. I made very few changes to the starting situation to adopt this mod for balanced PBEM.

The concept of this PBEM is simple: make Americas GREAT again! ;) Yes, there are 4 human players and four Americas now, each starting with 2 cities, while Greater Japan owns North Western USA and big bad Mexico owns South West, including California, like many years ago.

Victory Conditions:

This mod runs for 500 turns, from 1956 to 1997, where turns represent months. There will be new Victory condition and new House Rules for every new 100 turns. For this Freshman season there is only one way to win: your America must score higher than other 3 Americas at the beginning of the turn 100!

Freshman House Rules (first 100 turns)

1. Under no circumstances human players are allowed to change their inaugural civics and Americanism religion: the most important rule. This means ban on any spy missions involving changing civic of the human opponent (AI is a fair game). This means all the affected humans have to defy any UN Napoli Conventions resolution proposing a universal civic different from yours.

2. No war is allowed against any civ with Americanism religion. If defensive pact or anything else unintentionally finds you at war with Americanism worshipers -- peace has to be offered immediately.

3. No secret (email, PM, in-game) human to human messaging. All the verbal communications must be done by posting in this thread.

4. Everything else within in-game rules is allowed unless 4 humans vote with a simple majority to amend these house rules in a future.

Civics: REPRESENTATION, NATIONHOOD, EMANCIPATION, STATE_PROPERTY, ORGANIZED_RELIGION


2. Kaskaskia Confederation. Starting Score 1494.
UU: F-35, UB: Grain Mill, Leader: William Stratton (Phil/Char), Cities: Chicago (17) and Sioux Falls (8), Wonders: none (but most likely of all to found a corporation in 3-4 turns).
Civics: POLICE_STATE, NATIONHOOD, EMANCIPATION, FREE_MARKET, ORGANIZED_RELIGION


3. Dixie States. Starting Score 1485.
UU: Dixie Rebel, UB: Country Radio, Leader: George Wallace (Ind/Org), Cities: New Orleans (13) and Charleston (8), Wonders: Rock N Roll.
Civics: POLICE_STATE, NATIONHOOD, CASTE_SYSTEM, MERCANTILISM, ORGANIZED_RELIGION


4. Lemnitzer Regime. Starting Score 1491.
UU: Stryker, UB: Underground Vault, Leader: Lyman Lemnitzer (Exp/Ind), Cities: Washington (8) and Detroit (9), Wonders: Pentagon and AP United States Pact.
Civics: POLICE_STATE, BUREAUCRACY, EMANCIPATION, FREE_MARKET, ORGANIZED_RELIGION

Detroit is the only major change. I renamed 3 islands in Pacific from names of the islands to names of their capital cities. Also I balanced AI vs human Americas after few test games in Single Player by switching to EPIC speed and setting all the AIs on Deity while human Americas on Settler. Otherwise Britain and Japan would discover Modern techs every 4 turns because everyone starts in Modern Era with 0% inflation. Also all the human player cities start with Americanism, not just capitals. And obviously USSA was given regular American color, because existing color was identical with the one Russia had. Also regime in Washington had exact same civics as Kaskaskia, so I game former Bureaucracy, which is very fitting for Washington, both story wise and to balance them with other Americas.

Oh and I just noticed Charleston was spelled as Charlestown in the original mod. It will be fixed by the time we are playing. Can you upload the patched version in your Creation and Customization thread?

I've been overwhelmed. I'm sorry. Everything is just too much for me to handle, stuff too personal to explain right now and some just excessive. It takes more than 5 minutes for me to do the coding stuff. I have to find the file, make the changes, test it to make sure it works, wait a long time for the file to be compressed and then wait a long time to upload the file to the online server. I just need sleep. I haven't had more than 5 hours of sleep in about a week. The weekend was pretty bad for me, so I couldn't have done it then either. I don't have school this Wednesday through Friday. I can do the stuff then. I'm just not up to the task as of right now. I haven't even had time to be on CFC. I haven't been on in days, which is really rare. Sorry about this, but just give me two days.

It will get done, I swear. It's been a rough few days.

I'm not trying to make anyone feel guilty. I know I promised to do it earlier and I failed on that promise, I know it's my fault. I just don't want anyone to think I don't care. I'll get it done tomorrow, I will.

Okay guys, it's done. I fixed the problem and I uploaded it. It should work, if it doesn't I'm going to cry :p Sorry about the delay, but there shouldn't be any more major roadblocks from now on.
 
Guys we all have to download the clean patched version, I will send CK his initial file tonight. USSA goes first!

I want to watch that sometime, or at least read the book. Has it been good?

Player order is the same as in OP: USSA-->Kaskaskia-->Dixie-->Lemnitzer. Meaning CK needs to email his save to DKVM. But if we all join PBEM tracker -- I can launch the game tracker and we will soon start to uploading game there, instead of emailing each other.

If you never played PBEM before -- remember the most important tip: you should press the end of turn button to generate your save. Once the save is created you cannot write over it, meaning you cannot replay your turn and save it again on top of the existing file even if the game asks: override? No matter what you chose the resulting file will be corrupted. To avoid that ALWAYS delete the old file in the very unlikely situation when you have to replay. Also please read and understand house rules.
