World of Wuxia

evoJdaS.jpg

You live in times of uncertainty. It is 1750. The Qianlong Emperor has ordered his armed forces to burn down the Shaolin Temple. With the help of a traitorous monk called Bak Mei, the Manchus burned the temple and killed almost all of the Shaolin monks. Now it is your time to make the difference. Will you serve the Emperor and exterminate the Ming rebels or shall you battle for righteousness against the Imperial Court?

World of Wuxia is a choose your own adventure/quest game with a twist. Each player has his own character and story. You will contact both NPCs and other players and discover the huge world of Imperial China.

Joining:

To join you must fill this simple template:

Name: Only Chinese/Manchu names are accepted.
Class: Shaolin, Imperial Guard, Martial Artist (will be explained below on "Class" section).
Physical description: Just give me a physical description of your character, as long or short as you want. Pics can be accepted too instead of text.
Gender: Male of Female. Female characters can only be Imperial Guards or Martial Artists, not Shaolin (for obvious reasons).
Stats: You have 10 points to spend on stats (see "Stats" section below).

Class:

The class you choose decides only your alignment. Your alignment decides how factions and NPCs treat you. The alignments are Ming (popular with people, enemy of the Imperial Court), Qing (unpopular with the people, have the support of the Imperial Court), Neutral (you have neither the support nor the enmity of either the people or the Imperial Court).

Shaolin: You begin with Ming alignment.

Imperial Guard: You begin with Qing alignment.

Martial Artist: You begin with Neutral alignment.

Alignment can change due to choices you make and encounters with NPCs. For example, a Shaolin (if he makes certain choices) can defect to Qing and an Imperial Guard can defect to Ming or they can become Neutral.

Stats:

Stats, along with RNG (Random Number Generator), decide if your actions are successful or not.

Attack: The more points, the more chances to succeed in an attack you have.
Defense: The more points, the more chances to successfully defend against an attack you have.
Speed: The more points, the better chances to escape you have. It also helps in Attack and Defense.
Stealth: The more points, the more chances to successfully sneak into a building.
Intelligence: The more points, the more chances you have to solve puzzles (like opening boxes, understanding the meaning of a weird Martial Arts text, etch).
Charisma: The more points, the easier it is to deal with NPCs, recruit companions and gain their loyalty.

The stats can be increased with successes. If you are successful in sneaking in houses, to use an example, your Stealth stat shall increase. In reverse, if you fail repeatedly, it will decrease. The stats can also be increased if your find a Master or a Manual.

Companions:

As you wander China, some NPCs may choose to join you. They can either help you or bring you harm. You will have to gain their trust and help them and in return they shall help you. No one starts with companions. They will be gained in your journey.

Items:

As you wander China, you will find items, like swords, manuals, maps and other items which shall help you in your quests and some of them may increase your stats.

Quests:

As you wander China, you will meet NPCs who will give you quests. You can choose to ignore them if you want, but completing them will increase your stats, give you the trust of the NPC whose quest you complete and you may even find a Master or a Martial Arts Manual.

Updates:

Unlike traditional CYOA, I will update once every day (as there are more than one stories). If you do not make a decision a day, do not worry. Your character will be resting. There are no orders lock.

Background: Wei Shen motherf***er, who you?

Wei Shen was amongst the most bloodthirsty and violent of the Imperial Guard. Wherever his investigations took him he left a trail of bloodshed in his wake.

Perhaps out of malice or fear, his superiors order Wei to pose as a pugilist and investigate the martial arts community undercover, seeking out the last of the Shaolin and rooting them out from their bases of support. His superiors point the loose cannon that is Wei Shen at their enemies, and Wei is only happy to oblige - and it gets him our of the Capital, too.

Do you need a minimum of 1 in each stat

Yes..

If I do get enough players, I am willing to moderate this.

Update 1

Wei Shen

Wei Shen was traveling on horseback in Guangdong province. General Lai Wei had given him a mission to go undercover in the martial arts world and track down the remaining Shaolin. As his horse was galloping forward on a dirt road under the bright sun and the clear blue sky, he heard some screams. He turned his horse to the right and galloped towards the source of those sounds. There he found a young man fighting two Imperial soldiers. The young man was bald and seemed like a Shaolin fugitive, although no one could know if he indeed was a Shaolin or just a bald man. One of the soldiers charged forward at the man, sword at hand, but the young man with a swift back kick kicked the soldier's face. His teeth broke and he spitted blood. The other soldier too attacked and he was luckier, managing to scratch the man's chest with his sword.

Option 1: Help the Imperial soldiers and attack the man.
Option 2: Help the man and attack the Imperial soldiers. After all your mission is to go undercover.
Option 3: It is none of your business. Ignore both of them.

Chen "Lanzui" Zheng

Chen Zheng walked into Mao's Tavern. He sat on a table and ordered wine and some fresh dishes to be brought. Once the wine and the dishes were brought, he proceeded to leisurely sip the wine and taste the dishes, which included roasted beef and rice with vegetables.

A young man with long black hair, fine, manly physique and handsome, well-proportioned features approached Chen Zheng's table and sat besides him. He was wearing a blue gown made from the finest silk and was holding a hand fan made of crane feathers.

"It seems that you know how to enjoy my money.", the man joked.

"Since you paid the meal, I could not refuse it.", Chen Zheng replied.

"The reason I treat you like this, my friend, is because I want to make a deal with you."

"What kind of deal?"

"I want a man eliminated. You will be handsomely rewarded with enough credits to buy every shop on this village."

Chen Zheng smiled. "I guess that since the job is well paid, the man you want me to kill is too dangerous."

"Indeed. I want you to eliminate Master Kung Shang. He is an hermit and lives somewhere in 'Bamboo Myst' forest. I want you to go into the forest and get rid of him. He is a great martial arts Master and has given the Qing government much trouble with his patriotic nonsense. But no need to worry. You shall not be alone. I have hired other martial artists too, with whom you shall cooperate in tracking down and killing the old bastard. So, what do you say?"

Option 1: Accept the deal. He seems willing to pay a fortune for killing this old man and you will have the help of other martial artists too in killing him.
Option 2: Master Kung Shang is a patriot against the Manchu oppressors and so you cannot accept this deal, even if the young man offers you a fortune.

Sub-Options:

If you choose Option 2, you will have to choose one of the two sub-options:

1: You refused this deal and now you must search for someone else in need of your skills. Maybe Mao has some job for you.
2: You must warn Kung Shang that the Manchu are after him. So you must rush to the forest before the Qing arrive there.

Leifang Tzu

Leifang Tzu was walking on a dirt road. The sun was shining brightly on the sky and the wind was cool. She could smell the fragrance of wild flowers. As she was walking, she saw a young man lying on the ground, injured. His green silk gown was dirtied with mud, but Leifang Tzu could still see that it was quite an expensive clothe. The man himself was handsome and looked like a nobleman. Besides him, a sturdy man was standing, approaching menacingly at the young man.

Option 1: Intervene and attack the sturdy man.
Option 2: Intervene and try to reason with the sturdy man, asking him why he attacks the young man and if he could let him go.
Option 3: Ignore them, it is none of your business. It will only get you into trouble.

Notes:

bonefang - your stats are a bit off. You can use only 10 points on stats.
<nuke> - Yes, I guess
To those who want to join - You still can join.
All players - stats are posted on the second post of the thread.

Leifang eyed the sturdy man and his punching bag curiously before walking over to the pair. Her plan? Two birds with one stone. She would try to help the nobleman by recruiting his attacker as an ally. Maybe he could teach her a thing or two? Walking near, but not up to, the attacker, Leifang sighed before addressing him. "You look formidable. Why are you messing with small-time over here? Why not join up with me? I'm trying to form a team of the baddest fighters around to beat all the other sects. You in?"

Listen to me young man, first off all, thanks for wonderful dish you have served in here. Secondly, lets get to a more comfortable place where we can discuss business in details. (In a corner where the chances of overhearing are less) So you have come to know who I am; I am that famous ehh ? I am inclined to take up this job, but, I only work single jobs, since I am wanted in more places dead, than alive. Let me know if you have any other work that needs me.

Option 2!

Wei Shen grinned wickedly. He got off his horse, and bid it stay with a pat.

"Ho there, guardsmen!" he cried. "Let this gentleman provide you a better challenge!"

Without waiting for a response, he hurled himself at one of the soldiers, fists flying and ready for battle. Assimilating into the pugilists camp was good, but violence was an opportunity not to be missed.

Update 2:

Wei Shen

The Imperial Guards laughed. "Who is this idiot who dares intervene?", one of them said and, sword at hand, charged at Wei Shen. Big mistake. Wei Shen dodged the attack (Defense successful) and then, with a swift back kick, kicked the man's chest (Attack successful). The Imperial Guard was pushed back and spitted some blood.

The second guard was luckier. He attacked from behind Wei Shen. As Wei Shen was busy with the other guard, the second guard was able to scratch Wei Shen's back with his sword (Defense failure). Thankfully, the injury was not critical and so Wei Shen was able to turn back and smash his powerful fist on the guard's face, crushing his skull (Attack successful). Seeing this, the other Imperial Guard, being injured and alone, decided to ran away.

"Thank you, thank you.", the bald man said. "I am Lo Wei. I...I am a fugitive of the Empire. You see, I am one of the last Shaolin monks. I am careful not to speak about this to other people, but since you faced death in order to save me from the Manchus, you must be a patriot."

Option 1: Pretend to be a patriot to infiltrate the rebels. (Lo Wei joins you as Companion).
Option 2: Kill him. He is a Shaolin.

Stats changes: + 1 Attack.

Chen "Lanzui" Zheng

"I do have another job for you", the young man said. "But it is a very dangerous mission. I hope that you shall not fail me."

"So, what is the job?"

"The Governor of Shandong, Guo Jing, is very loyal to the Emperor and incorruptible. This means that I cannot buy him off to my cause..."

The young man did not say more, but Chen Zheng could understand that the young man was part of a conspiracy to overthrow the Emperor.

"I want you to kill him.", the young man continued. "The reward will be riches beyond your wildest imagination."

Option 1: Accept the mission and head to Shandong.
Option 2: The mission is too dangerous. Refuse the offer.

Leifang Tzu

The sturdy man laughed. "Seriously, you think you are a fighter? That's the best joke I've heard since...forever!"

The sturdy man lurched forward, attempting to capture Leifang Tzu, but she dodged the attack (Defense successful).

"Impressive.", the sturdy man said. "Maybe you are fighter.... Not many people can dodge my attacks. So, if you wish so, I can take you to my Teacher. You have potential and he could teach you in the ways of Tao Kung Fu. By the way, my name is Chung Kuo."

Option 1: Accept his offer and go see his Teacher.
Option 2: Refuse the offer.

"And what about this man?", Leifang Tzu asked.

"He seemed like a Manchu nobleman. That's why I attacked him.", Chung Kuo replied. "I don't like Manchus."

"Hey, that's no reason to attack me!", the nobleman said.

"I will let you go! Leave!"

Instead of leaving, the nobleman approached them and asked Leifang Tzu, "My name is Duan Yu. Do you mind if I come with you? I have nowhere to go right now and you two seem like Kung Fu fighters. I always wanted to have an adventure. So, may I come with you?"

Option A: Let him come with you (Duan Yu joins you as Companion).
Option B: Tell him to leave.

Notes: This time, you have to make two choices (1 - 2, A -B).
Stats changes: +1 Defense, +1 Charisma.

Ru Bai

Ru Bai was all alone. He was one of the few survivors of the destruction of the Shaolin Temple. Emperor Qianlong had dispatched Manchu forces to Shaolin only a year ago. They began the assault by bombarding the largely wooden monastery with a relentless deluge of burning arrows. Between the surprise attack, the fire, and the overwhelming number of Qing soldiers, 110 out of the 128 monks were killed that day. The Great Shaolin Purge took 70 days as Qing forces hunted down the 18 survivors. The surviving monks of Shaolin inflicted massive casualties on their Qing pursuers but, in the end, their numbers were too great. Only ten of them survived.

Ru Bai was one of those who managed to survive. Surprisingly, perhaps, as he was not a great Kung Fu master. Or, maybe, this is why he managed to survive. The Imperials would not bother with a Shaolin student with little to no skills, especially when all the Great Masters had managed to escape. So, Ru Bai was able to survive the slaughter and now wanders alone on the countryside.

Suddenly, he saw an injured man. He was wearing black trousers but no shirt. His chest was covered with bruises and sword cuts. He could barely walk. The injured man approached Ru Bai and said, "Please...help..."

Option 1: Get him to the city to be treated by a doctor.
Option 2: It is too dangerous to go to the city, you might be recognized. Let him die.

Option B: Tell him to leave.

Notes: This time, you have to make two choices (1 - 2, A -B).
Stats changes: +1 Defense, +1 Charisma.

> Option 1: By accepting Chung Kuo's offer, Leifang will build her martial arsenal. That's obviously a good thing! On top of that, she gets to make more allies! (Accept his offer and go see his Teacher.)

> Option A: A Manchu nobleman could be a valuable tool. Since Leifang is neutral to both the Shaolin and the Imperial Court, she has the chance to build favour with both. Again, something that I wouldn't complain about. (Let him come with you (Duan Yu joins you as Companion).)

But Ru Ba wasnt going to just walk in to the city. He grab some dirty to put on his face and clothes to make himself look like a peasant. then took the men over his shoulders to bring him to the city to see a doctor.
