Mostly for men...

Say some Japanese consortium came up with a robot that was indistinguishable from a hot chick, but respectful and rational. Youthful, you know.

Consider that it is reported by experts on this stuff that the women use electrical devices already, and they say that 50% have such, though that leaves me a bit in shock. I come from a simpler time when such uses of technology were not common.

So, that considered, what about us guys? Should such electrical devices be available to all? What about marriage? If a guy wanted to marry his robot, should it be allowed or forbidden?

Why wouldn't women be interested in male-formed versions??

Other than that quibble, let them have it. Let all who wants to have it.

Within a marriage it would be a discussion perhaps, but spouses already discuss things like porn and toys already, so I don't see any new problems with this.

And only consenting adults should be allowed to marry. One can not marry a thing or an animal, no matter how many who has already tried (and think they've succeeded).

Finally, if such devices could also to household chores, they could replace the washing machines too! That would surely increase adoption. :D

Yes please.

Yes I don't see why not. Though I'd want it to be somewhat socially acceptable first. If it came with a lot of stigma of being a weirdo then I don't think I would have been able to followed though. It's not exactly something you'd be able to just hide in a drawer then you're done.

Well sure, there's an idea. the western ladies could graduate from hand actuated devices to full on robots, yes?

So by "indistinguishable," you mean "totally distinguishable." :mischief:

Not at all! If they don't rake you over the coals on a regular basis then they would definitely be distinguishable, yes?

But you knew that didn't you. ;)

I damn well hope so. Glad someone appreciates my efforts. What a bunch of pervs... Again, don't want to exclude the ladies! :D Where is true human relationships in all this? Is this the natural extension to porn? Might men find the cooperation they seek instead of the contention they endure irl? Might western women find whatever they are looking for? Is there a way to inject endless drama into their robots? Might the ladies be able to find electric men who finally "understand them"?

Worthy of in depth discussion!

I agree with everything said here.

But if your dildo can pass the turing test, maybe we could let you marry it. You'd need to hire a good lawyer first either way though.

Your poll does not differentiate between ownership for personal use and as an investment.

lol yeah. I'd buy stocks of such companies ^^.

It's actually already closer than you might think. There are dolls, which totally look human like ("real dolls", or something like that; cost as much as a small car), and there are people looking into giving them an AI.
There's an article about it in vanityfair from April, the guy is called Matt McMullen, but it's not safe to post the link here ^^ (think mainly because they have a photo from his working area in it, not necessarily due to textual content).

And yeah, why not?
I mean if you're okay with having a robot as life partner, then it's also probably better if you don't procreate.
And it also doesn't hurt anyone, so it's your bussiness.

I think that's too harsh, human sexuality is rather complicated. There are people out there in life relationships with completely non-realistic dolls, not even hyperrealistic robots. And I mean, yeah, maybe some of those people have mental issues or whatever, but I think the more technology improves, the more of this sort of thing we'll see, and eventually accept.

Didn't necessarily mean the sexual trigger. I mean I'd be fine with having a sex doll myself (...but the money...).
It's also about the emotions. If you're able to get emotionally totally involved with a robot (which will in no way be able to mirror a human in the close future), without having the need to have a real person instead, then you probably have a problem. If you don't get that fixed, then it's maybe also better to not have offspring.
