Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 125
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the 127th game in the GOTM V Training Series! This Series will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these features from Civ5's expansions and DLCs in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif, Hammer Rabbi or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Civ V BNW - TSG127 Details:
Player (You): Sejong of Korea
Victory Condition: Diplomacy all other VCs are enabled, Difficulty: Prince
Civs/City-States (including player): 8/16
Map Type/Size: Continents
Game pace: Standard

Game options:
Start - Anceint Era
Enabled - Quick Combat, Quick Movement,

(Regardless of starting options, you may turn on/off Quick Combat/Quick Movement using the game options menu at any time during gameplay.)
Game Version: This game was created in Civ5 Brave New World version 1.0.3.279.
Game Requirements: Korea and Wonders of the Ancient World DLC. Gods and Kings expansion, Brave New World Expansion.

Korean Unique Abilities:

Spoiler :
UA: Scholars of the Jade Hall: +2 science for all specialists and for all Great Person tile improvements. Receive a tech boost each time a scientific building/Wonder is built in the Korean capital

UU: The Hwach'a, a Medieval Era unit that replaces that Trebuchet, is particularly powerful when defending against infantry; its firepower is only marginally less than the Artillery that comes in the late Industrial Era, allowing the Hwach'a to decimate units caught within its firing range. This comes at the cost of lower base combat strength and the attack bonus against cities, making Hwach'a ill-suited for siege combat.
UU:The Turtle Ship is also a powerful defensive unit. While its strength comes at the cost of the ability to travel through deep ocean outside of Korean territory, the Turtle Ship boasts the largest combat strength increase of any unique unit, being 80% stronger than the Caravel that it replaces. It can be a strong offensive tool against coastal neighbors not separated by deep oceans, pillaging coastal trade routes and improvements and perhaps taking coastal cities with support.

This is where you will start:

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by earliest date and highest score ). We will issue a medal to the top winner (based on earliest date finished for each VC). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

File Upload System
We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature) Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.

This game runs for a month and ends February 15th, 2016.

The save will be available for download on January 15th, 2016 midnight Central Standard time (UTC -6:00) in the US.

The Save can be found here.

Are you sure this game is deity difficulty? Usually the mid-month game is a bit lower difficulty. Looks like a kewl game though.

I'm in for my first GotM. Never attempted diplomatic victory before so should be interesting.

What a powerful start, it's too bad my gaming computer fried and I can't even finish the last two yet. I'll be doing this one eventually though, if I ever get it fixed.

This position is very interesting. There might be some temptation in the revelaed sea as well to move to the hill, but probably I will stay at the mountain. I will move the warrior to the SW hill and see.

You can tell that from just this picture ?

What if the rest of our continent is barren, we cant make any settlements on more luxes and there will be noone to trade with ?:mischief:

I do have a special opening plan though, looking forward to bringing it in practice

Yeah, that's a REALLY big capitol. Should be just a big science race to the end. Gotta make sure to time the votes.

Not sure if it's faster to unlock the vote by going information era or just through conquest on civs. I haven't had much experience playing prince difficulty AI.

So the world congres interval changes when it gets to a new age. Does that mean for the existing count or the next one ?

For example:
There is a vote on turn 170 in industrial era, so the next should be on turn 200.
On turn 190 however, i enter atomic age and thus bring the game into industrial age and votes are now every 25 turns. Is it still going to be on turn 180 or does it become turn 175 ?

Also, i just ran a few test games and the korean science bonus you get from building science stuff seems very inconsistent. Can anyone tell me how i can know how much i will get from it ?

I recall there was another thing in the game that allowed you to buy scientists from faith besides getting full rationalism. I dont remember what it was and cant find it. Can anyone tell me ?

With a Tradition opener you won't be settling a second city AND getting a sub 200 victory. This is a continents map so you will need to set sail to find the other civs and if you are going for a under 200 victory you will also need to kill everyone on your continent. You can use the gold from killing them as well as picking up Freedom ideology and sending trade routes to befriend a lot of city states OR you can wonder spam (and fulfill the city states quests) but wonder spamming is going to negate building an army.

Remember prince AI has little money so the usual fleecing them for cash isn't going to work. A chariot rush in early game after building the GL will suffice to clear the home continent, but playing peacefully I can't see a sub200 victory, even with the super power nation of Korea.

I am however, open to ideas :mischief:

From the Wikia: "The bonus is calculated as 50% of the median Science value for all of the technologies the player can currently research." "While it is said that Science Wonders also provide the bonus, the only wonder that gives the player the bonus is the Great Library, and because the research agreement science bonus does not stack, this bonus is no greater than simply building a Library in the capital."

If this is wrong, it needs fixed. I am sure there is a thread on it somewhere, but I can't remember it. The specialist bonus is the big one though, plus 2 for every slot. That's why you want as many cities as possible, every city has the potential for 11 specialist slots in your empire (12 with windmills). 2 from university, 1 from school, 1 from lab, 1 from bank, 1 from market, 2 from stocks, 1 from workshop, 2 from factory, and a spare from windmill if you can build it. That's an extra 22 beakers per city total near the end, the trick will be to grow them tall enough to work all of those slots as you get them. I am not sure if this stacks with secularism though, I haven't played them in a while and cannot remember at all. Someone help me here...

I recall there was another thing in the game that allowed you to buy scientists from faith besides getting full rationalism. I dont remember what it was and cant find it. Can anyone tell me ?

This is a Reformation belief called "For the Glory of God", and it allows you to buy ALL great peoples with faith.
