Caught this subliminal Roman Leader at 2:32 in the recent CIV VI First look video on youtube! This is my first post on this forum but I thought you fanatics would appreciate this find! I've put 1000+ hours into CIV V and am stoked for this next game. Let me know what you all think of this. Looks like Julius Caesar to me but I could be wrong.

Well done to find out your self and welcome to the forum!

Some guys on reddit already found it a few hours ago, we think that it is Trajan but Caesar is also possible.

I was never a big fan of how they did Caesar in Civ 5, he felt weak and and sort of just despondent, not an ambitious powerhungry conqueror.

Whoever this is, it looks good, reminds me of Civ 4 Augustus.

Great find, even if someone managed to find it just a few hours prior. I didn't notice it msyelf when I watched the video.

It is currently widely believed, based on speculation from another thread, that the character in that screenshot is Trajan of Rome. See the leader portraits thread on here for where that speculation is coming from.

Trajan is the emperor who was discovered to be a fit on the leader portraits thread, and he ruled the Roman Empire at its peak, so this will be him. So far, the findings of that thread have been reliable; they were right in picking up that Barbarossa was replacing Bismarck in the game, which has since been confirmed when looking at screens from the same video this is from.

The leader for Rome in Civ 5 was Augustus Caesar, not Julius Caesar. Augustus Caesar is accounted to have been exactly as you described: despondent, no humor, physically weak, and mathematically minded. He was a politician not a warrior, always being far behind his armies whereas Julius would be amongst the men. He pretty much alienated everyone close to him, always using them to his own benefit, calculating every action in terms of the political effect. If that's how you saw Augustus Caesar in Civ 5 then the team did a very good job at portraying him.

I just hope he's a new leader, not one of the previously used ones! I mean we -knew- Rome was going to be there, the only question is who's the leader. I'd be really curious to see Constantine personally (though it doesn't look like it's going to be Constantine this time.)

Would have liked some others like diocletian but i'm not complaining. Julius caesar though would be out of place IMO.
Trajan is still a great choice

It's kinda off topic maybe. But please let me ask you, why you think Caesar would be out of place? Because he did not got the Emperor/King title? Rome was Republic, so he just became dictator perpetuus, which is actual very similar. Just wonder...

Because for me it equals a joan of arc like character, since he's more leader of military forces than the actual whole country, or at least the whole ministry. Part of the reason people don't like gandhi either

At this point, I am very interested in Rome's unique abilities. It will be fascinating to see what Firaxis does with Rome and Trajan from a gameplay perspective.

Okay, for those both it seems reasonable but Caesar? Come on... he got the dictator perpetuus title, which means exactly being the Leader of Rome. On those I don't get your point. Really. I dont understand your definition of ruling a country. He was infact a ruler.

Btw. the calendar system (Julian calendar) is nothing military, right? What about the "caeser" title? Kaiser (german), Czar, ... its named becouse of him. To me he's one of the most famous leader ever. With huge influence in history. I dont like all the things he did, nor I don't want him to be THE must have Civ6 leader of Rome. But still, I dont understand how you judge the way you do. Anyway, its up to you. ;)

...in civ5 Roman leader was Augustus, not Caesar.

Anyway, Rome was practically 100% sure anyway, it is what you think upon hearing the world 'civilisation'. Every particular civ could be absent from civ6 release roster and it would be forgiven, except Rome, Greece and Egypt. These three are 100-200 years old archetypes of civilisation, there were in every 'ancient empires' game ever.

I completely expect a "Trajan market" unique building, and a mention to Trajan's column. Great choice, Firaxis! :)

Trajan Columns Unique Improvement, Effect: Boosts Production and gives 2%production boost to military units in the city it is built, plus culture after archeology.

Im very interested on how they give Rome its engineering bonuses, like the Legion in civ V building roads and forts, and the UA too.

I'd see more of some boost like moctezuma had from CiV, since the column is giving culture for past victories.

As far as I remember, Coliseum was nearly confirmed as unique improvement.
it was? I thought it was going to be a wonder.

I was mostly joking about the column it would make a lot more sense as a UA, but I hope they differentiate the Aztec Civ V ability and that ability somehow, its too similar, for me anyway.

Trajans column :
Replaces monument (if unique stuff replaces anything)
+1 culture in cities founded by you for every Trajans column in cities your conquered.
