We have a good amount of discussion threads, polls and quizzes. Now it's time to come up with full-length articles on historical topics. ;) To encourage such articles, I'm putting up a stickied 'contents page', so that your article and author's name (or the link to it at least) will be at the top of the forum forever (or until CFC closes shop :)).

Some rules to observe : -

1) No plagarism; pls write it up yourself. You don't want to get into copyright troubles. ;)
2) Must be reasonably lengthy; if possible pls tag some interesting pictures, maps etc as well (got this idea fr 'somewhere' ).
3) Bibliography is suggested, but not necessary.
4) Usual forum rules applied.
5) More as and when I think of them. :p

Just post your article as a new thread, and I'll add it to the list. Pls feel free to PM me, in case I seem to have missed it.

Those who want to add old articles to the list, pls PM me with link. ;)

Thanks for the great response, guys. :)

Keep them coming... Remember anything is good, fr WW2 sub warfare in the Baltic to the traditonal forging process of Japanese katana e.g. :D

Probably shld have done this earlier. Pls post your feedback, comments, suggestions etc on the most recent initiative in the History forum here. ;)

I'm now trying to move History to a more structured and definitive format... :)

This initiative is to give you guys who like to write about their fave historical topic, but have no outlet or platform to publish, to put up your stuff here for CFC readership. Also to give recognition to posters who'd put in the effort to come up with the articles and to organize a central storage of links to the goodies in History. ;)

I'd like to encourage posters to submit articles. Esp guys like Mongoloid Cow, Oda, Stefan, that guy with the unpronounciable Greek name, pawpaw, Kryten etc etc to post something of your specialty. Don't be shy. :p

Sorry if I'd missed out a few names... I'm feeling giddy this morning. :)

Also, if you've written long posts but that are 'hidden' in other threads, you're welcomed to copy them and post as new threads, and submit them as full articles here.

Last note - pls use this thread to submit new items for inclusion in the Articles List as well - don't want you guys to bomb my PM box. :)

Can you request articles on this thread?

And I second you on a Porphyrogentitos article :D I've not seen him in ages though.

BTW, I've just started an article on Antigonus Monophthalmus, one of my favorite historical characters. So look out. And BTW2, if anyone wants to request an emphasis for that article, it's still not too late.

XIII, your new history forum format is an excellent idea. :goodjob:
I love it.
I'll try to contribute, when I get time.
I very much enjoy large in depth articles about historical subjects.

Calgacus, do please post your article on old Antigonus 'one-eye', although Eumenes the outsider is my favorite of the Successor Wars. :)

I don't see why not. Let's use this thread as an exchange and working thread for the Articles Listing project as well. :)

:goodjob: Whoever he is... :)

I know; all of my ideas are great... :mischief:

But not really my idea though, got it fr 'another' site. Except for the 'contents' thread... ;)

:goodjob: I figure if we all put in 1 or 2 articles per month, we'll have a large library to draw fr soon enough. :D

I'm considering writing an essay on army tactics during the Napoleonic Wars. Would that interest anyone?

If I wasnt busy with the nations states scenario i would write that macedonian tactics article, only Kryten has ever gone in-depth on the subject, and all those posts were in scenario creation... but mabey, just mabey I'll take some time off to get it down...

Sure. :) 'Cause your thread will be linked on the 1st pg, it'll available for reading by all future readers as well. ;)

I'll try to wipe up a few articles about Japanesse (and possibily Asian or even world) history. No big promises, though. One can but try.

Good. :) :goodjob:

I am hoping to read some quality ones on Japan... :D

I would like to see Kafka2s article on Paraguay included. I think because this is a world history forum we should at least make an effort to make sure the articles included reflect this even if the thread topics do not.
Also I think that the article by Porphyrogentitos "What is History?" would make a nice introduction to the new section.

As soon as I get all my information collected I might do an article on the history of personnel weaponry.

Also, napoleon526, I'd really enjoy seeing an article like that. Among other things, Napoleon Bonaparte's military career has always been a personal interest of mine.

They'll be completedly acceptable, once reformatted as new thread-articles. ;)

I'd also like to incl all the old article threads, but will have to find time to sweep thru the depths of the forums for them. Maybe later... ;)

will my undergrad essays on Greece and Rome be any good for this?

Sure. ;) Like I've said, any articles on any subject historical are welcomed, for public readership.

This is a long-term thing, so you guys don't have to rush it. ;)

I have submitted another article, The Victory That Was Not a Victory, about the 1648-1673 wars of the eastern rebellion in Poland-Lithuania. It's not a happy story for Poles or Lithuanians but it is interesting and involves lots of characters... It was also a crucial event for setting the stage for the modern powers in Eastern Europe.

@XIII -
Would it be possible for me to write up an article about what has happened in my home town. Since My Town has seen a lot of Historical significance (The American Reviloution, Historical Ships, etc. ) Would it be possible for me to write an article for each different historical section?

Anything is good, so long it's generally historical and reasonably interesting. Best if can tie in general history, or against a historic background. ;)
