I will try to give updates on the above (may be new posts or may just be editing the top post) But I doubt I will have the time to make sure EVERTHING is updated, going through all the cities to find the barracks and counting the cities can take quite a while.

My current goals are to upgrade as many Spears as we can along with building muskets to modernize our defensive force. As well as building up a Mobile force of Knights which can counterattack any agressor should we have to wage a war.

Also, we need to get Barracks into the majority of our cities, currently only 7/44 cities have Barracks in them, as a result only 6 of the 34 spearmen currently stations are even in a position to be upgraded at the moment.

I have an idea for the Military Department. What if we built up our military to have 25-40 knights, then attacked Egypt? Egypt is relatively small compared to us, and an attack could drive them into the sea, and add another province plus about 10 cities or so. It would also probably put us at the top of the histograph. Though we need infrastructure in several cities, there isn't a pressing need for it in many. I'm sure at least half the cities could switch over production to knights for around 20 turns without any serious effects, and we'll have more of a power and production base when the war is over. So, what is the Military Department's view on this?

I'm for a war, just we're not prepared for it now, and just building knights won't cut it, we need at least 1-2 modern defensive units (ie. muskets) in our border cities first (that would be 7-14 muskets).

Also, we need better infrstructure in general. esp. to support such a building effort. I can always petition for more units, but in the end it's the Governor's and Domestic's responcibility to provide them.

Personally I've had my eye on Cleo for quite some time now. Though I've never felt confident enough that we were ready for another assault. Not to mention I feel the general populus wants to play it rather peacefully this game, and anywar we wage would be best done BEFORE we switch to Democracy, for obvious reasons, war warriness.

Of course if we began a bee-line twoards Cavalry, building Knights and saving up goald, we could have Egypt in the Bag I think.

It seems upgrading of Spearmen has been postponed for now, at least for the majority of them.

With the likely probobility of war vs. Egypt, we will end up upgrading our Knights to Cavalry shortly before such an invasion.

The Knight -> Cavalry upgrade will cost 20g per unit, with talks of 30-50 units that will cost us 600g - 1000g We must make sure by the time we get Military Tradition we have this much gold that we are willing to spend to make sure all our Knights are upgraded and ready to take on the Eygptian army.

Any chance we could have a dedicated Egyptian war planning thread? It'd do no harm regardless of the way the poll turns out.

Please request funding for the upgrading of six spearmen for the Second Egyptian War.

Thanks Peri, beaten me to the last two requests in here :p ;)

Thanks for all the hard work, You've probobly been my most active Deputy yet.

You know, sometimes the best leaders are those who just sit back and enjoy the work of their staff!

Would the military leader consider stationing 4 non elite legions at River Crossing to provide a diversionary attack on Asyut. If so please post in the TC instruction thread.

Thanks.

Peri, I've got no problems with that. We will want to use our 3 (may be a little more) Elite Legions (which can produce GL's there is "Donsig's Legion" but can't produce one) in the offensive to gain GL's.

We may even be able to gain a GL attaking Asyut with these. (the "softening" should be done by Vets, but if we've got pretty good chance of sucess use the Elites).

In the end the prosecution of the war is down to you.
You decide what to do and we will support you. :)

Just notice, but anybody else notice a lone Russian Spearman outside of Elephantine?

Oh crud - he got out of the zoo AGAIN?

We'll send out the keepers for him. Sorry for the trouble!
