Cool, Its going right into the MEM:D, btw it would´nt be possible to make a version of this with a Pike/Spear?

Looks just great, man! Thank you! :D

I was wondering, would it be possible to give him an early fire arm (hand cannon) as well?

A picture of a 15th century hand cannoneer (the protective piece of wood should not be included in the unit animation, for obvious (but not historically correct) reasons.

Why not ? Sorry but it is not "obvious" to me ... :(

Nice unit Utah !

Well it doesn't *have* to be unincluded, but I just thought it might obscure this so excelent unit... That's all! :) Didn't mean to sound harsh...

And again, great unit!

Another great unit!

Honestly people, why on earth would we need a hand cannoneer? What's wrong with the Civ3 Musketman for that role? Same thing goes for the Pikeman!

Maybe utah wants a well-deserved break.

I need it, thats why. Now the reason I need it is; The northern civs use a Crossbowman and Pikeman based on the same model. The Medditerrainean civs now use this crossbowman and the northern Pikeman, which will look just a bit out of place. And yes I already use the Firaxis Pikeman, it comes later as an advanced Pikeman. (This is in the MEM btw)

It´s true that Utah deserves a break, but that does´nt mean we should incourage him to take one;)

that's right yoda... i like to have that graphical diversity. also a hand canoneer would be very useful for me, for my fantasy mod.

I don't suppose someone could do a crossbowman with a pavise shield?

Ah, for those not as erudite as our beloved Zulu ;) --

"PA VIS, or PAVISE, a large convex shield, some 4 to 5 ft. high and sufficiently broad to cover the entire body, used in medieval warfare, as a protection against arrows and other missiles. The word appears in innumerable forms in Old French, Italian and Medieval Latin, and is probably to be referred to Pavia, in Italy, where such shields were made. The term " pavisade " or " pavesade " was used of a portable screen of hurdles behind which archers might find protection, or of a similar defensive screen formed by linking together “pavises,” especially on board a ship of war extending along the bulwarks, and hence in later times of a canvas screen similarly placed to conceal the rowers in a galley or the sailors on other types of ships."

-- Yeah, yeah, just like the one in the illustration; also used by the Ashigaru (see below)

it's a shame that this crossbowman doesn't use his shield correctly. I thought for sure when I saw the preview that he would use the Pavise properly.

It's a shame that that would be incredibly hard to animate. Of course, if you want to cut and paste things so he uses the shield properly, be my guest.

I hate to sound all critical, but ive tried this unit and it seems a bit 'neon' with its civ colours, almost flat colour in places, anyone else noticied this? Unfortunately palette editing is not my strong point.

Personally I think it would be a lot better if the civ colours were toned down a bit, maybe showing off more of the detail too.

Im just saying this because its a great unit that id defiantely want to use. hope you come back to this.....
