It is the autumn of the year 1815. Few weeks ago Napoleon, the werewolf of Corsica, was finally beaten in Waterloo and he has been driven into exile. In the congress held in Vienna, Austria, the leaders of all big European nations have decided how to divide Europe to ensure the safety of the European people and also the safety of their own power. The ideals of the French revolution i.e. liberalism, democracy, freedom of speech, equality, nationalism and so on are all considered to be threats to safety among the conservative circles, and the conservative circles are currently the ones controlling the continent as Switzerland is the only true republic in the entire Europe.
France has been given back to the royal family which controlled it before the Great Revolution in 1789, and several other adjustments have been made by Prussia, England, Austria and Russia to make the Europe safe from future Napoleons: Several dozens of small German states and city-states have been annexed into bigger states, Prussia has been granted the control of big land areas near France, Belgium has been annexed into Netherlands, Switzerland has been declared neutral zone and in Italy, Austria has been granted the control of Venice and Lombardy. The point of all these adjustments was to ensure that France would never again become such a pain in the ass as it did with Napoleon leading it.
And while Britain, Prussia, Austria and Russia are agonizing over liberal manifests, the Ottoman Empire is still at its power in the east
This is how Europe looked like in 1815. But how would it have looked like after 1815 if YOU had been running it?
ABOUT THIS NES
This is my third nes, and like the previous two, it is a story nes. But this time its based mostly on real history but I made a couble of adjustments for my nes that are not completely historically accurate: in the real congress of Vienna, the number of German states was decreased from several hundreds to 39 but in this nes, only seven of them exist. There are only three states in Italy, and some African countries like Tripoli and Algiers have been given a lot more land than they actually owned. All these adjustments have been made for gameplay purposes (and also to make moderating a bit easier
).
I will try to update this nes at least two or three times a week. Plus, there will be some status reports every now and then, to ensure that there wont be any crazy Sweden sneak-attacked and conquered half of Russia before the Russian leaders even heard about the attack events.
This nes will be played on a map of Europe because I want it to be a historical view on Europe's developement (or possible developement
) during the 19th century. That doesn't mean that the rest of the world wouldn't exist! You still have colonies and losing them might cause you some economical losses. USA and China still exist, altough both try not to have anything to do with Europe.
SOME BASIC RULES:
-Basic storytelling rules: you give orders, I follow them.
-Army, navy, economy, culture and education are upgradeable. Upgrading one thing will cost you one economy level. If you grow economy you cant grow anything else. There are 5 levels for culture and education and 7 levels for army, navy and economy.
-Level of technology, living standards and confidence are not upgradeable. Their growth depends on many things, including your actions, and even a bit on your luck. All these three unupgradeable things are a factor in deciding who are winning battles in wars.
ARMY/ECONOMY (etc...) LEVELS:
Army/navy: tiny, very small, small, medium, large, very large, huge
Economy: depression, recession, slowing, stable, growing, booming, world-wide
Culture: near nil, low, moderate, high, outstanding
Education: lousy, bad, average, good, outstanding
Confidence: near nil, low, average, high, outstanding
CONSCRIPTION:
It takes 2 years (i.e. one turn) to order a conscription. Your army size will increase by one (two if your home soil is being unprovokenly attacked, since there will be more volunteers) and it will cost you an economy level. Plus it will cost you one economy level for every 2 turns you keep it up.
NOTICE: When you use conscription, your army level can raise above "huge", but you can't normally grow army beyond huge if you don't use conscription to get there.
GOVERNMENTS:
the government forms include sultanate, monarchy, dictatorship, constitutional monarchy and republic (same as democracy).
WONDERS:
It will take from 5 to 15 turns (10 to 30 years) to build a wonder, depending on what it will give to you. The wonders have to be realistic.
MONARCHS:
I liked the monarch system in aaminions eurones. So youll also have monarchs or presidents or prime ministers running your country, and youll get to name them. If you wont then I will. If you write stories (and I hope people will), you can determine when they die and who will be their successors. You also get to name your leaders. If you dont then I will. I will also make them die if you never make them die in your stories.
STORIES
You might get an additional boost in confidence or something if you write a lot. But I know that there are a lot of people who dont want to write anything so Im not forcing anyone and there wont be any real penalties for not writing.
THE NES WILL END
This nes is about the 19th century, so if it wont die before 1900, then that is the year where it will end. After that, there will be a winner determined (what is the point of playing a game if its not winnable?) and some other awards granted (like most trustworthy ally or something). There will be no votings or polls; I will be the one who determines the winner(s).
SPECIAL THANKS
Special thanks go to Plexus as the blank map to which I drew the 1815 borders was done by him and he helped me out with it, and also to Lmsw who helped me name some small German and Italian states.
