CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE INSTRUCTIONS BECAUSE THEY WERE FAULTY. (11/22/03)

For those who don't know, this file is used for the pretty little icons you see for luxuries in the city screen.

Some more modding made me realize there is no real good template out their for newer users (Kal-el made the last one a long time ago), so I provide this new one free of charge. :D

Note: you'll have to rename the pcx file. Just truncate "luxury_icons_small_template" to "luxuryicons_small".

There are some minor instructions on the template itself that may prove useful to newer modders. ;)

THIS FILE FOR CIV VANILLA AND PTW ONLY. See below for C3C.
luxury icons small template.zip

ADDITION:
Ok, as Spincrus points out below, in C3C you can put the luxury resources right in the order they appear in you biq file in the editor. So, even if there are 5 resources between, say, Gems and Exotic Birds, you can place exotic birds right after Gems in the luxuryicons_small file. In fact, C3C only looks at the first 8 rows then goes to the second 8 rows below the first. I've added a new luxuryicons_small file for C3C.

Download it here: luxuryicons_small_c3c.zip

Rename the file "luxuryicons_small.pcx".

Nice, but on C3C, you can actually have multiple rows of 8 going down on the Y axis.

Then, you won't have to try to guess which square actually corresponds to which resource, since they now go in the order they are present in the .biq file.

I've tested it, it works perfectly OK.

Hmm . . . interesting. Still good for PtW and vanilla. Also, in your statement "since they now go in the order they are present in the .biq file", do you mean "they" to be luxury resources only? Thus you can have all resource icons right in a row in "luxury_icons_small"?

"Multiple rows of 8" is good. Thanks for the info.

Ok, I've figured out what Spincrus was saying and have added a new file to the first post for C3C. Also, I've changed the first sentance of my post to correct a fundamental error.

Enjoy.

As far as I've seen from your new file, you've understood me right :)

For those of you who have no idea what's going on; strictly in Conquests ONLY, the order the luxury resources are present in the .biq file (scenario rules file) will now correspond to the order they are within the luxury_icons_small file.

Say;

- first 8 boxes are the resources: {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}, where each number is a luxury resource.
- then on the biq file, on top of the original order of 8 strategic, 8 luxury and 8 bonus resources, you add about 10 more resources, in the random order of {9, a, b, 10, c, d, e, f, 11, 12}, where the letters correspond to either bonus or strategic resources (just to illustrate the random allignment).
- the next row of boxes within the luxury_icons_small file will contain the icons for the luxury items in the following order: {9, 10, 11, 12}.

PS: I think the next couple of boxes to the right of the first row might also work, so you might not have to create a new row every single time you hit 8 boxes. There might not be a 8 boxes/row sort of thing in the first place, but not sure about that.

Thanks, Spincrus, for the great information.

I tested this. C3C does NOT look beyond 8 resources per row. So, luxuryincons_small most have rows of 8 only.

Thanks,
