Whaa...?
Hmm...the bloodstain resembles a map of Central and South America plus Mexico and the Caribbean islands.
Or am I seeing things? :crazyeye:
Any experts around care to educate the rest of us about this one? :)

Yes the cut on the hand has the form of Latin America. The Latin America memorial is a big museum on São Paulo Brazil and it has many paintinhgs and projects of latin artists and sculptors. And one of the most famus statues is that hand. Its is very beutiful inside there.

@Vasili
Thank you.
What's the symbolism? Why a cut in the palm of a hand?

It symbols all the pain that the latin contrys sufferd. The conquerors of the european nations destroyed our indians, our way of living and changed all. They destroyed entire forests and villages. It symbols too the military dictadorships and the wars that all the latin contrys had.Soo it basicly symbols all the pain that the Latin America had been trough.

Thank you, everyone.
CFC is turning out to be very educational.
One last silly question, why is it colored yellow? :D

I agreed with you, this posts are educational, I from Colombia and I don't know about that museum, I think that the yellow color means the natural fortune that our contries have, and it has been robbed by centuries.

Weel in reality it isn´t yellow,it is grey but Rufus put in this way and it looks better.

Maybe the blood on the hand represents the sudden proliferation of military juntas in South America during the 60's and 70's.

Or perhaps all around violent history, including sacrifices of sports teams and ruthless amazon warriors from time before the Europeans. Could be, because if you think about the evil European rule "Latin" America had it easy, I mean first European landed there in 1492 but Finland was invaded by Sweden over three hundred years earlier... ;)

Hi Everyone,

In fact, I believe the sculpture is based on a book (written by Eduardo Galeano, a scholar from Uruguay) called "The Open Veins Of Latin America", where he explains how the continent were ruthlessly explored - from the European 'discovery' to the US-sponsored bloody dictatorships of the XX Century.

By the way, it's a very good book for anyone interested in the Latin America.

Cheers,

Mad Hab
