I get this Trojan horse put on my machine every time this popup is triggered.

It is a complete PITA. Please do something about it.

Is that an actualy virus detector there? It doesn't look like one . . .

The only suggestion I really have is www.mozilla.org, or Opera.

The popup puts a dialler on your machine that then proceeds to connect you to a website and start a process of downloading some dodgy software. My virus detector catches the download, and initiates a process to remove the dialler. It takes time and gets up my nose. Obviously, if you make the life choice not to protect yourself from viruses then you will not necessarily be aware of this company invading your computer without your consent.

The anti-virus software I use is completely free, and very effective (AFAICT). It is available from www.grisoft.com.

Edit: Of course, the way to deal with this kind of thing is to not permit this kind of popup. I really wish I could pay a subscription not to get popups. They really make me

AVG is really good, I use it too.

In fact it detects a virus far quicker than jokes like Norton or McAfee.

Get Pop-up Stopper, by 'PanicWare'.

It is an old program but it automatically stops pop-up spam and all other crud from them.

Good luck.

I've had adaware for awhile but I've decided to download a popup stopper as well since popups have gone too far now on CFC... Btw make sure you download the free version.

Well, I like to support the site as much as I can and I click on the banners and stuff from time to time just to generate money for the site. What I object to is when the site condones ads that contain spyware and other invasive software. At that point my tolerance of popups ends.

From time to time third party advertisers insert bad ads to exploit the ad system. Telefragged and UGO are usually quick in eliminating those ads. I have just emailed Telefragged about that. We don't condone those ads.

Thanks for the response. And I apologise if my post was worded indelicately. I was annoyed. :)

spleen1015,

Google has it's own spyware embedded! They gather information about your browsing. :(

There are other free ones that don't have spyware...

And Gator is always active on the search engines...

Beware!

Any folders on your system called 'Gain' or 'GMT' - Then kill them right now!

yeah, my little sister's computer was utterly infected with gator and GAIN pop-up spyware. There was even some yahoo searchbar that installed itself. It would even take over if you searched in google.

The USMC should storm Gator's HQ and kill them all!

They are similar to Deltacorp from Robocop II - only spammy.

Opera has several levels of pop up control that work very well, and it is a fabulous browser!!!

http://www.opera.com/

Yes, it's better than opera, but AOL ROCKS!!!!!

/me ducks

Actually, I use IE and Firefox at home, and Firefox and Avant (IE Core with a lot of functions Firefox has built in) at work.
