Free artistry and Ironclad

Anyone research them ?? Why would i research Free Artistry or ironclad where i can research 4 turn Industralisation and trying hard to keep ahead of AI ?

p/s : Im playing Emperor on huge map atm, and i swear the AI are cheating. The korean managed to pay me 40goldperturn where it lost her capital and only running around with a settler. :eek:

Free Artistry, so I can build Shakespears Theater. The AI never researches this. ST acts as a hospital, allowing the city to grow over size 12. This can be invalueable when trying to prebuild US, ToE & HD... more production!

Ironclads, I let the AI research them, and buy it from them sometime before the end of the game.

Doubt it, I know I don't. By the time you research ironclads and make five, you could be researching mass production.

As to your question, I study FA if I think I can grab the theater, otherwise no. As far as ironclads go, I need a really good reason so, otherwise no!

I research it because the theatre is crucial for cultral 20k victory and computer never researches it and also, you can trade it later for a useful tech.

I will not research ironclad, but may spend the time to reasearch Free Artistry if I am looking for a 20K culture victory.

An AI will be able to pay 40 GPT with no city if he receive payment from another AI. i don't think this is cheating.
I have seen AI with only 2 cities being able to pay more than 200 GPT for a tech, this was possible because the AI was receiving payment from other AIs.
Nothing related to cheating.

The AI will also be able to pay you that much it they have 800 gold, and 0 gpt. The is able to make deals down to losing all of its gold.

I never research Ironclads, sometimes I trade for them - their age is too short, Destroyers are close...

Free Artistry: I do not think that Shakespeare's Theatre is a big deal even if it acts in a version where it is like a hospital...

No, there are always more important techs to research.
You might consider it if you are way behind in tech to get a tech for trade...

Well, seems there are still some people with a brain here, able to use it properly. Personnally it's been quite some time I find no use at using mine :crazyeye:

(Actually I'm SO a beginner at C3C that I didn't even know ironclad had become a tech...got to check that tonight, I'm curious now)

Free Artistry is powerful, especially if done earlier on. The free hospital bonus, gives you a huge boost in your power in wonder races, and increases the power of science wonders if they are located there (more people = more commerce).

ST is also extremely valuable in a OCC. (Free hospitals in every city!

Ironclads are not entirely useless in C3C. They upgrade to destroyers. This allows you to get started early and build up a large fleet. Especially good if you have lots of cash for upgrades - you are then building your "predestroyers" for less shields.

I don't often try to control the oceans though.

I don't ever research either of these techs, mostly because my games are just about over by the time I'm that far. If they AI will offer them to me in a peace treaty or something then I will take them, but otherwise no, not even if they were only 1 gold. Well maybe if they were 1 gold

The effect of ST is act as a hospital in ONE city only izzit ? Or am i missing something ?
