I've found out lately, that when I come to the civfanatics website (not just the forums, the home page) that some of the pop ups go haywire, and it hijacks my home page to some stupid spyware scam thing. Is anyone else having this problem????

I'll post the homepage address that it hijacks to in the next message in this thread....

for some reason, its not doing it now. When i come back to work tomorrow, I'll see if it happens again, and if it does, I'll post the address.

Yea, it happened to me too, its been gone since yesterday I think. Get the free zonealarm(firewall), AVG(antivirus), and most importantly, get CWshredder - the program that gets rid of the annoying virus.

Well, at work, I just can't download stuff and put it on my pc, so adding new virus protection or whatever, isn't an option.

But here's the webpage that it hijacks my home page to......

http://default-homepage-network.com/start.cgi?new-hkcu

Whoever runs that page, needs to ****ing die.

Next time you see it, take a screenshot of the bad ad/popup and post it here so we can kill that ad...

i'm having this problem too, and my IT department is none too pleased. it only occurs on the main CFC page.
the other thing it does is try to open windows media player which gets blocked. i reset my browser to request to run cookies and plug-ins but it still doesn't stop it. the list of virus's and trojans that it tried to install can be seen on the pic below mostly harmless malware but it did load what Trend Micro considers a medium thread trojan last week. it also changed my opening page.

i pm'd TF but i thought i'd post here as well just to share :)

Yeah I link into the units from home. But at school I go through the main page. I think I better see if I can't get outpost to remember my settings this time.(I run any programs that require an outbound connection after install, I don't trust my father to understand what it is asking him)

Or you can use a browser with popup blocking like Opera or Mozilla Firefox...

OK yeah this thing is a pain in the ass. I logged onto the main site, and a pop up appeared but before I could see what it was something happened to it and it was gone. But it did change my homepage to that site which DL 16(I know it was 16 as I ran spybot right before going to the main page) things on my computer. And it tried to install a ****ing virus on my computer! Time to get that damn firewall running again.

Hey TF, I don't think it's pop up ads. I just got two alerts from spybot saying it blocked 'avenue A inc' but the only ad around was the banner ad.
