I would like the time to be displayed somehwere on the screen. Some of us have kids and are damn grumpy the next morning after being up until 4am playing Civ. Having a clock somewhere on the screen would allow me to get more sleep.

I've got a solution for you.

Solution:
1.Go to a nearby Radio Shack, Office Max, Staples, or another electronic store.
2.Buy a clock (digital or manuel)
3.Go back home with your new clock
4.Put your clock next to the computer
5.If it's a clock with an alarm on it, you can even set a time on which you should get ready for bed, and then you can play until the clock rings.

Putting a clock in the game wouldn't add much value. I would rather see better graphics than this.

SimCity 3 has a clock in the menu screen. Very helpful. Rather than turning around or looking away from the screen. (which should be every 15min to rest anyways) but still a clock is a great idea.

I would like this. Especially if an advisor came up saying, "Lord Warpstorm, do you realize that it's 3AM?"

A clock in the game is a great idea, but not in the main screen. It should be, for example, in one of the advisor's page (domestic advisor).

And a advisor telling about "Do you realize that it's 3AM??" its very, very funny.

Personally, I have a clock over my desktop. ;)

They don't have a clock in the game for the same reason they don't put clocks in casinos: "Just one more turn..."

Face it, man, they got you hooked.

I remember Dungeon Keeper II having a few sarcastic messages suggesting that the player go to bed if it was around 3AM or so. So it wouldn't be the first time this was done.

Sleep is for the weak, baby!

I wouldn't mind a clock, it could be useful. Especially if it had a couple of small extra features, like a game clock, and perhaps some kind of per-turn utility. And, of course, an alarm clock so I know when to go to bed....

That reminds me of the #1 voted 1000 clues that you play too much Civ. It was something to the effect of "...if your loved ones change a response by a rival civ when accepting a trade to say, 'Let's celebrate this treaty. Why don't you go make us some sandwiches?'"

It would be a fun addition for advisors to give you hints that you have been playing a long time without a break (or that you are up rather late).

How about getting a life. I mean even more if your married. Like come on there is a lot more fun late at night other than civ. :)

Even more if you're married? Hmmm....methinks you're not... or maybe just a newlywed....;)

A clock would be good, but the ability to run Civ4 in either a full screen mode or a window mode would allow you to see the operative system clock and do much more (e.g. set up reminders for sleeping time in Outlook)

Depends on who you're married to and what she looks like..

I imagine when compared to an aging, naggy, 50 pound overweight wife, Civ starts looking better and better as the years go by..

Have any of you ever played stronghold?
In the middle of the night, your advisor sais "It's getting late mylord, are'nt you tired?"

I mus say i really liked this, if nothing else they could at least make something similar an easter egg in cIV

My wife is 5'5", 110 Lbs, and pretty good lookin'. Unfortunatly, she's as hooked on Civ as I am, so here's what I'd like to see: A clock/timer f(x) where one could, among other things, set her playing time so I can actually get to play my game!

Hey, I keep a clock by my computer and I STILL end up going around 4 hours longer than I intended :p ! As was previously stated, the real problem here is that the game is just too damned addictive ;)! Hmmm, perhaps if you could set it to dump you out of the game at a preset time-now THAT might be interesting! Then, you can't go back in until you have had the computer switched off for a certain period of time :D!

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.
