32 enemies on Tiny map - sick and fun

I recently found a new favorite way of playing the game, after getting a bit bored from the long epic games on huge maps.

By using the editor, you can mod the World Size so that the Tiny map will contain all civilizations. This is a very nice tactic for a 'different' game.

After your first turn of play, you'll have no room for expansion. The enemy capitals are only 2-3 tiles away from yours, kinda like an international ICS model :p
Since there's no room for expansion, there's no need to think about Settlers. The only way to expand is by waging war - and burning (and re-building) or capturing AI cities. After only 3000 years, I've already wiped out 4 civs :D

Everyone seeking some variation should definitely try this - it's really fun!

Played all 31 civs on a standard map. Similar effect but you could generally build 1 other city if you were quick. All good clean fun!!

Yep - but the density of a Tiny map makes it so much more enjoyable :)
I used 70% water this time, think I'll go for 80% next time!

In one of the starts I had, there were rival civ stacks in 7 of my 8 starting city squares - in 4000BC! :p That's 8 civs in a 3x3 landmass!

MESSY!!!! (but good fun!)

Good job if you are the first player to settle... Also does the computer just settle even if it is inside your border and declare war if there is nowhere else to go?

@Doc Tsiolkovski: No, but I started on Regent and am now at Emperor.. Pretty difficult as most AIs only have 1 city, and they REALLY do protect it! I hope to win though, and move up 1 level :)

Well, what happened was that I settled, and at the end of the turn, a civ located 2 tiles SW of me founded their capital too. Since all other stacks were inside mine or his borders, they moved out of the borders and founded their capital(s) right there. This was on Emperor, I'm not sure whether they'd settle inside your borders at higher difficulty levels.
I really found it stupid of them to not use their units to take over my undefended capital - but I guess the AI is programmed to give the human atleast a little chance of survival ;)

PS: To reproduce a similar situation, do NOT change 'distance between civs' when editing World Sizes. If you change it to 3 or 4, they wont spawn THAT close to you - but there still wont be any expansion possibilities.

I've had one game once where a situation occured that the Egyptions had one last settler running to safety in another empire's territory and once their last city fell they automatically built a city, declaring war on the other empire thus dooming themselves anyway.

Ever tried that above Emperor?

I have tried a couple of games at emperor/deity with double the standard number of AI and they did not feel harder. The out of room AIs start wars incessantly and opportunism will win you the day. The wars also slow down research, but if the pace picks up there are ample oppurtunities for trade.

Yeah, that's what I'd expected - while they could exterminate you pretty early, they usually fight themselves pretty soon. Played nothing but crowded (16 Civs) large maps for some time, and it didn't feel more difficult.

I just wondered what happens on a tiny map with 32 Civs, and 31 of those start with 2 Settlers and 8+ units...how will you compensate that in time?

Actually I tried that a month or so ago. I got the idea from Chieftess saying that tech would go extremely fsat this way.

My experience was that the AI will settle it's capital as early as possible but not within enemy borders.
I got five within my borders from the start and three more visilbe after i founded my capital
the others really got bad cities

I'm not sure whether it has changed throughout the different versions but I believe that it is possible but it is a declaration of war.

I thought it was not possible to settle Inside cultural borders?

It is possible as long as you do not settle adjectent to another city. Settling within an enemys border is however an act of war and if you do it it's considered as being a sneak attack.

In this forum-section (non-CFC) I've uploaded such an idea about a month ago. The Scenario is also there.

It's a fun type of game and doesn't last very long (4 hours of playtime). It has some nice twists and changes tactics completely. But why repeat myself when all is there ?

And Chieftess got the idea from me; I emailed it to her (and other CFC-ers) in March.

If you really want a "fun" game, try it on Sid level. ;)

Join them to the city for that much more production power early on. Don't know if the AI will do that or not.

Not sure, on lower levels the AI seems to just keep settlers incase they find some open terrain later on...
