Background: I startet making this about a month ago(might be more I'm not sure). My idea was to make a somewhat realistic but still playable scenario for C3C, when I say enjoyable I also mean small loading/waiting time. It should be useable for both single and multiplayer/pbem. So I createt a map and startet placing cities, adding units, making the tech tree etc. This is all done. I still have a few entries to write, but not a lot. So basicly the scenario is done. Though I want it to be "perfect" when I release it, so I'm gonna do a lot of testing.

Historical Background: For those of you who dont know, the Spanish civil war lasted from 1936-39. The war was bewteen the republicans aka leftists/anarchists and the nationalists(led by General Franco, who won and became dictater). The Soviets and volunteers from all around Europe fought on the republican side, while Hitler and Mussolini supportet Franco.

Historical Disclaimer: My main goal was NOT to create the most realistic scenario ever, but to make a very playable and enjoyable game. I think I achieved this without loosing to much realism, but you have to judge for yourself ofcause;)

General Information: There are four civilizations, or factions as I like to call them. They are all playable. There are also to alliances at war with each other. That is the Nationalists(Nationalist Spain) and the Republicans(Republican Spain, Catalonia and the Basque Republic).

There are only 36 turns, but dont worry there is plenty of time to play. My latest test game lasted for 4 hours, and I only got to turn 20.

I wanted to have a good looking scenario, therefor all the added units, exept one called "Bunker" are made by Smoking Mirror. The scenario does not use any standard civ3 land units exept Engineer(ind worker), the Tank, Artillery and Flak. I also use a few terrain changes(new mountains, irrigation/farm and railroad). All this results in a very "clean" looking game.

Screenshot one: The Tech Tree- edit, if the link doesn't work its because the upload server seems to be down.
As you can see some techs apperently gives the same unit. This is also the case. The standard infantry and the unit called Mobile Infantry gets improved throughout the war, this is shown by each unit getting more hitpoints(stats are otherwise the same) and making the earlier unit obsolete.

And before you mention it, yes there is only six techs, but dont worry I have yet to finish a game with all techs researched(even as the nationalists who can build a wonder that gives them 2 free techs).

Screenshot two: The map.

Red= Nationalist Spain
Yellow= Republican Spain
Green= Basque Republic
Greenish Yellow= Catalonia

As you can see the parts of the map that isn't part of Spain are jungle. I have chnaged Jungle to an impassible terrain called "Not Part of Spain." I also createt new graphics for jungle, so instead of jungle you just see an X.

Screenshot four: Battle of Lopera.

Thought you would like an ingame screenshot too. Playing as the Nationalists I am about to capture Lopera. This is the last one for now.

Yeah

And replace 'Anda Lusia' with 'Andalucia', the true Spanish spelling.

This looks excellent. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Looks great. How do you plan on implenting, German, Soviet, and Italian support though?

I'd agree that you should use the Spanish spellings. Catalonia should be Cataluña, Basque should be Pais Vasco or Euskera if you want the Basque word for it. Maybe it's just a matter of preference for me that's not really significant to anyone else, but you can do whatever you want. Looks good though.

Or even Catalunya, which is (I think) the Catalan spelling...
In any event, it looks good (and will save me some work - I was contemplating doing an SCW scenario myself...)

If you want, I can do some testing for you.

I think it's better use the catalonian spelling in Catalonia (Catalunya) and the basc spelling in the Basc Country (Euskalherria)

Yoda Power,

I'm working on a Spanish Civil War Scenario too, when I first saw this thread I thought to cancel my project but finally I decided to do it.

I will have the nationals, Catalonia, Euskadi and the Republic like you. My first idea was split the republic between comunist, socialist and anarquist, catalonian and euskadi, but ther were so weak.

Catalonia, Euskadi and republic are in lock war against the national, but not in locked alliances because I will let them destroy Franco and the conquer all Spain, I think it is the most realistic option with Franco's defeat.

Well I wish you luck with your project

SM- Thanks, but you are making my life hard, now I have to decide what to use :mischief:

TLC- Yuo sai deres anyting rong with mai Anglish?

daumal- I wrote Andalusia, I dunno why it looks like Anda lusia, I checked the script file there is no space. I want to use the english spellings.

boombshoo- by unit generating small wonders.

Clam- see my answer to daumal.

Tweedledum- see my answer tp Clam I Am.

Luddi latin number- irrigation and RR by niessuh(sp?), mountains by forgot-his-name-gonna-get-it-for-the-credit-list. And thanks for the offer, but no more testing is really needed.

Meta- Well thanks for the suggestions, but I disagree that a state like the Basques would try to conquer all of Spain. Anyway good luck with your scenario :goodjob:, and see my answer to Tweedledum.

Yoda Power,

I didn't explain myself clear enough :blush: , I didn't meant that the basc would conquer spain. The idea is that the republican goverment and the basc goverment had different goals. As you must know inside the republican side they were a few civil wars inside the civil war against the natoinalist: POUM vs. PSUC, Catholics vs. Secularist, Comunists vs. Anarquists... and a long list of other conflicts.

That's why I don't think a lock alliance is a historical reality, I would love to include all the factions in the game but I will need a better diplomatic options for this. Maybe CIV4 :lol:

Now I see. Well I want to keep the game simple, and only having two sides helps this. As I said in the first post, my goal was not to create the most accurate scenario, just a very playable one.

BTW I will give no official release date, though it will be released this summer.
