i've noticed lately that almostevery game has a "preview" thread, and that some of the games are PLAYED in the preview thread.
if its a preview thread, then why is the game playing in it?
atleast ask a mod to rename the thread, (though that might annoy them),

actualy i think the whole "preview" idea sucks. it seems like most of these threads include something to the effect of "i'll change the game to whatever the players want it to be". then its not a preview, is it?, its a development thread.

previews are for the exact cause of developing the NES before it comes out fully- it offers the potential players preveiw of what is to come, and it is up to the potential players to speak thier voice if they have any general suggestions for setting, gamplay or what ever, and to refine and whittle down the preveiwed NES into somthign that will, hopefully. be more enjoyable then it would have been if just started as a raw, unrefined NES

@xen. i dont see why the person who's opening the game cant "refine" it themselves. but i understand why what you're saying happens, the problem i have with them is when its:
Game Preview thread- and the post is "so what do you want in a game?" or something.
giving a setting and NO rules, or one rule that the mod tobe thinks is a good inovative idea, but has no clue as to how to integrate it into a working game.
it just seems to me that the reasoning you gave is being used as an excuse to start games with no rules cause the mod-to-be wants to start a game but is too lazy to think about what rules the game should have and wants the players to make the rules for him.
if a person is not dedicated enough to even MAKE the game, then how likely you think it is that he'll stay with it in updates and all the HARDER work of running the game.
i think one of the big reasons that so many games seem to die off befoer even starting up is that they start without anyone carring one way or the other if it lives or dies.
atleast the person starting./modding the game should care about it. and the only way that will happen is if they've put some work into making it.

@erez. ok now that i look through the threads i guess you're right. cant find one, though i could have sworn there was a preview thread that was going on like 5 pages (my 40 post pages), and if that's still the preview then......
well anyway, i guess ishould retract that part of my rant. lol.

it was plexus preview... go read it and understand why it was so long... and why it got closed.

well my own NES, which statared as a preview thread, and then moved into its own game thread started out with me giving the setting, and an outline of what i was considering puttin ginto the game, and what i had already done- and I stayed with it until i left for britian for 3 weeks- after that, a combination of the NES no longer appealing to me to modernat eit, and that not every oen would give thier orders more ro less drove me into abandoning it- now ist contemplateing what iwant my next NES ot be like- and will make a thread for its preview and development to see what the people have to say one the matter, if my supposed rules are to tough, or too loose, and what not.

My preview thread was also a sign-up thread. The game could not have been made without it.

I think a preview thread is a good idea, it helps create a game by the people. Though I do recommend that the rules are all written, and that the soon-to-be players can just give their advise on the rules, and what should be different. I know a lot of rules I would like to put in a game, but nearly nobody else would like, so a preview thread would help me out by getting feedback on the rules, so I don't start an NES that is going to fail because nobody likes those rules.

preview threads?, not really a fan, if i do a nes i make sure the rules are ok and balanced, and original enough. If you simply throw a map and story made in 15 mins and hope that people give you more ideas, then is simply going to end up as a quagmire.

however not all preview threads are bad, some are good because an outline of story, rules and maps is given.

Well, preview threads are required due to the fact that NESes are supposed to be fun and interesting for both the mod AND the players. So the players should be able to say whether its worth a try or not.

Now I think there WERE some precedents of the NESes being played in a preview thread. But I don't remember where .

I think that preview threads should remain. On the other hand a moderators SHOULD write the main idea of rules, and people SHOULD tell him whether they like it or not. If some particular rule is for some reason disliked by lots of people, and they suggest a more reasonable, in their eyes, rule for that certain thing, then the moderator should adopt it or modify the original rule.
