In the absence of my superior, Curufinwë, his honorable Minister of Culture, I have been instructed to poll the will of the people about the wonders of the ancient age.

The goal of this polling process is to define which wonders the people have most interest building. This discussion is, altough very simple, extremely important for further planning by the culture ministry.

This discussion will go on untill august the 6th. On the said date, at a yet undefined hour, I will set an informal multichoice poll to get the figure.

Now, let's get on with the question: Considering an informal polling of your will, select the wonders of the ancient age that you consider the most worth building.

In any given democratic system, information is considered the key to freedom. So, I'll inform you:
The wonders of the Ancient age
  • The Collossus: Availible with Bronze working. May be built in a coastal city only. Adds one gold to every tile that produces gold in the city. Rendered obsolete by Flight. Religious
  • The Pyramids: Availible with Masonry. Gives every city in the continent a Granary. Religious
  • The Great Library: Availible with Literature. Gives us every tech know by at least two of our known Foreign Countries. Rendered obsolete by Eduction. (also the most culture intensive building in the game)
  • The Great Lighthouse: Availible with Map Making. May be built in a costal city only. Gives our galleys +1 movement and safe access to sea tiles. Rendered obsolete by Magnetism.
  • The Oracle: Availible with Mythology. Gives our continental temples an extra content face. Rendered obsolete by Theology. Religious
  • The Great Wall: Availible with Construction. Gives our units a 50% bonus against Barbarians and double the bonus of City Walls. Rendered obsolete by Metalurgy. Militaristic
  • The Hanging Gardens: Availible with Monarchy. Makes 3 unhappy citizens content in its city and one unhappy citizen content in our other cities. Rendered obsolete by Steam Power.

Please vote for no more than 2 options.
This poll will last 96 hours.
This new poll has been posted to fix the Hanging Gardens problem

I hope this time the poll is not going to become invalid and all the votes goes to the Giant Radioactive Monkey :p ;).

The ministry of culture cannot give any indication if this poll might turn one of our beloved jungle monkeys into a giant, obliterating, radioactive monkey. Please come back when we have learned about fission. :nuke:

There are monkeys that don't live in the jungle?

Yes European monkeys in Gibraltar, and mountain monkeys in Japan.

I guess the mountain monkeys vote for a city in the middle of the mountains, instead of colonies to gather the diamonds.

i like the colloses and pyramids the best, but I want to wait on the collessus until we know which city will produce the most income

I love The Collossus and the Great Library (partly because I a big bookworm :)), but I would happy if the Pyramids are built.

And if we're on island alone, we should shoot for the lighthouse, so we can contact other civs, trade techs and then start to destoring them.

The Hanging Gardens are far from important. They only help in 1 city, and at that, if you have enough luxuries, the effect is negligable.

Hanging Gardens are worthless in my opinion, just get more luxuries to offest unhappy citizens. Pyramids and the Great Library are what's really needed. If another civ gets the Great Library then they get a tech advantage. Even if we don't really need the GL we want to keep it out of the hands of another civ.

Less unhappy people -> higher city population, less military police needed, higher score, less War Wariness. that's like saying instead of getting luxaries just go for the Religious buildings, and don't trade for any Luxaries.... every little bit helps, esp. those 3 happy faces in the city it's built in... Secondly we're not gonna be getting all 8 luxaries till much later in the game.

Abstain, public poll.

The thing is Hanging Gardens will only make one citizen content per city. The only city which will be able to build it probably will be our capital, which we need for other things. It gets obsolete later too. The Pyramids would be our best choice because they never obsolete.

Blackheart, but dig deep in your soul, do we really need the pyramids, this game?

Civ3 is so sophisticated that it enables multiple strategies to succeed, and good Civplayers do not lean on pyramids and pottery as a default solution.

Hehem, the public polling is there for two good reasons: ensure that citizens are voting and ensure that there is no one that votes all or such.

What is your problem with public polling anyway?

Keep in mind that Honorable Ravensfire was CJ for the Secret Police Judicial system. He probably just doesn't want people to know how he votes. ;) :scan:
