WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush offered up a new entry for his catalog of "Bushisms" on Thursday, declaring that his administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people."

Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted.

:hmm:

 There's a slap in his face!

 One thing Bush is good for, funny quotes

I don't see how anyone in the Bush administration can keep a straight face. Even his wife must giggle some times and just be like, "Damn, what an ass." :crazyeye:

Can you call the first quote a "quote" if it's been paraphrased? How do you build a defence against someone? You find out how they want to hurt you. I'm sure that's what he meant, but guaranteed this will show up on the news as something like "if I'm not re-elected I'm gona make sure there's no country left after me."

Freudian slip.

reminds me of his:"x(cant remember the name) is a texasgal and so am i!"

Next thing you know, he'll start blowing up buildings so that the terrorist can't blow them up :p

Not to defend his obvious 'bush-speak' too much, but wouldn't we have to imagine ways that we could be hurt in order to stop someone from doing it in the future.

But you're right it is clearly bush-speak.

I think he means WE are thinking of new ways they could harm US , but he just did a standard Bush mispronunciation thing. :p

It was an easily made mistake. Not everyone is the best at giving speeches; he was probably pretty nervous when he said it.

So is he always pretty nervous when he gives speeches? :crazyeye:

Didn't Kerry say something about expanding terrorist activities if he were elected?;)

Probably. Most people would be if they are giving a speech that is on tv and millions of people world-wide are watching. SOunds like a normal thing to me. :)

Except for that, after 3.5 years of doing just that, you would figure he would have gotten used to it.

Oh, there you go, ruining their fun.

Odd, but one of the ways of thinking like the enemy in an attempt to stop them is to think to yourself "if I wanted to do this, how would I do it?"

Or was that unhelpful in the backslapping rituals being conducted here? :mischief:

This is sounding like the people who were getting all smug over Rumsfeld's "things we don't know we don't know" quote, but don't let me spoil things for you. Please, continue with the mutual reinforcement ceremony.
