Technique fine tuners, this probably isn't the game for you. If you just want to have some easy fun, well here you have it!

The game will have 5 players. 24/72 turnover with some leniancy. As long as you keep the team updated with circumstances/time frames. 20turns first player, 10 after that. Anything goes.

Um, what are you going to do is it's an archi map? Swim?

You picked some opponents with tough UU's for this, Greece and Carthage especially.

Did you realize you spelled your own name wrong?

Not a sign up.

What is this pick on Mauer day? It's not an arch map, yes I realised the opponents, and a typo. :crazyeye:

Um, what's with the jerky remark there? I'll sign up.

:nono: I think he was being critical, but not being a jerk. You should be careful about your replies to post here.

27 views and only 1 sign up. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea huh?

I think you may get more interest if you take the no-research option off. Swordsman don't last forever.;) The OCC, with only captured cities being allowed into the empire sounds interesting, and I bet you'll get some sign ups from that.;) Sorry, but this isn't a sign up. And Dan, I know Sesn. He's a good guy. Should really get to know people before passing judgement on them.

You can still buy techs from the AI you are not at war with.

With AI research speed swordmen will last very long. :)

The first comment was meant as a joke, but I'm an idiot because I didn't see that he listed landmass as Pangaea.
The second was merely an observation. For an easier game I would have omitted those two civs especially.
The third was truly just giving him a hard time, which he took in the light hearted spirit I intended.

But Mauer is right Dan, the mods around here do not take flaming lightly. I am certainly not offended, and I wouldn't call that a flame, but you want to be careful going down the road of slinging insults at specific users.

I don't think it's that it's not a good idea Mauer, it's more that many of the serious players here just wouldn't see this as challenging enough, and the lower and mid level players have a harder time finding this forum or having the temerity to just pop in and join up.

Don't be so quick to write it off, I have seen games take a week or two to get the appropriate signups.

Quick observations:
I might have chosen Persia, as the UU seems to fit this game better.
I'd probably burn a couple worker moves and go west one tile to scout, but if nothing shows, maybe move one south to get a coastal location. You will have access to the Colossus.
"no peace after that" - does that mean you are going AW, or OW? If AW, are you allowed intial trades?

EDIT: thank you for the kind words, Alerum.

I chose Rome because of the SGOTM3. I have never really played Rome and was impressed with the 3/3 legionary. Um, not sure what OW is, but guess I should have been more specific. Don't have to be at war with more than 1 civ at a time, but certainly can if so desired. And trading is allowed. This is my first SG to open up, so please forgive the lack of..um...yeah experience. :p

OW=Oscillating war.

Sounds like this is what you're implying. In an oscillating war scenario, you must declare war on civ a, and remain at war for twenty turns. On the same turn you make peace with them, you have to declare on civ B for twenty turns. Continue on until you come back around to civ a, etc.

In the strategy articles forum, Arathorn explains it much better than I do. I know, big surprise, right?

This is why the current GOTM is a non-oscillating variant. The twenty turns still exist, but there is no peace treaties.

Ok, now I understand. Yes this is what I was looking for. Just didn't know it had a term. I probably would have known....except for the fact that I am one of the chumps not playing the sponsored variant. ha

Tell you what, after the game ends, come and look through our thread.

Then tell me which group was the chumps, the variant teams, or the non variant teams.

Hmm, warlord sounds a little bit easy, but who cares, sign me in. 'no research' compared with 'OCC' sounds interesting.

Is this a OCC?

I know warlord is a little easy, but may not be as easy with the rules and the civs we are up against. That was kind of my reasoning behind the small pangea, and the AI civs.
EDIT:No it isn't OCC. Well sort of. Can build settlers untill we discover Iron Working. So maybe 2 or 3CC, or however many we can get in. :)

Well, I am probably blacklisted now anyways for that comment. So I will withdraw my name from the roster, and go check out RBCiv or something.

@Dan-Beersheba: Don't take too much from the criticism you got. I am sure it was meant to sound more gentle than it came off. I have read (and written) worse.

..... one of the problems with the written word is that some things can come off a LOT more harsh than intended. By all means, join in the fun if you feel so inclined. Sesn's not signed up for this...so he can't "blackball" you if he wanted to.

@Sesn: :p (..and please tell me which slugfest I'm up in...still trying to figure a way out of the hole in Bede2... )

@Mauer: I like the Avatar. And I like the variant...

Not a refusal or a signup - yet... but I'm going to track this... and I may know of one or two players that might be interested in this. Don't give up just yet.

...and if Sesn would be kind enough to gas the Koreans before Bugs2 comes back to me, I might be cajoled into rounding out the last spot in your roster if you need one more player in a week.
