Iron working will be learned very quickly. After that we'll go for Alphabet, as decide in This Poll.

Alphabet is also obtainable through trade.

That leaves us with the question: What to research after alphabet?
The citizens can choose 2 consecutive techs; please look carefully before voting !!

The Science Department advises to go this way:

This poll will remain opened for 96 hours - Time enough to think and vote

I have a bad feeling that this poll may spread the options too thin to be conclusive, although we will be able to determine the next tech with no problem.

Would you be against polling the secondary tech if this is the case?

In any case, I am not ready to vote just yet........

DZ and others:

I have no problem with repolling after the next Turnchat (or later TC's) if citizens speak out for this. In fact I'm counting on it that we'll repoll.
The result of this poll is not written in stone; I just want to give the citizens an option to express their preferred path, and I want to give the DP a guide to what the citizens want researched.
The DP can use this result in case we obtain more techs through huts, trading or other ways, than we expect. This prevents undesirable turnchat stoppage due to unspecified instructions on what to research next.

As a recommendation for future polls of this type, can I suggest the following basic structure:
Have a multi-select poll where the user can select the tech to research first then the tech to research next:
[ ] 1st: Masonry (-> Mathematics)
[ ] 1st: Writing (-> Philosophy, Literature, etc)

[*] 1st: Mysticism (-> Polytheism)
[ ] 2nd: Mathematics
[ ] 2nd: Writing
[ ] 2nd: Horseback Riding

[*] 2nd: Polytheism
... etc all secondary techs. The user selection for Mysticism followed by Polytheism is indicated.

This way the choices are less eye intensive and we can go to further levels in the tech tree. The user must make sure to not vote for writing followed by writing...

VOTE :

Mysticicm and Polytheism

There is enough land
There is enough enemies
There is enough difficult terrain

There is not enough luxuries
There is no need ofr libraries and gallesy (settlers and army)

WE need MONARCHY NOW

VOTE MYSTICISICM AND POLYTHEISM

Writing/Lit. We are doing this game as the peaceful one. Last game was the war game. DGs 2 adn 4 were the ones where we played cowboy. Please, we're in this for a peaceful haul. Lets go with Writing and Literature. They'll serve as barganing chips and the Great Library will get us any techs we miss, including Myst and Poly.
Please. Do not send us down a one way path with no alternate route. Writing/Lit. Heck, writing/anything else on the path. Just not Myst/Poly

First: Mysticism, After that: Polytheism.

The last one, of course. :lol: I believe we need a new form of government as quickly as possible. With the great society it will create, we can learn the other Techs on the list that much quicker.

"We are playing.." YOU are TRYING :) Even a diplomacy victory requires the early applicaton of our national unit under optimal circumstances.

We need to get to Monarchy, ASAP. That way we can get out of this age quicker.

BTW, the Republic takes too long to research.

Mysticism -> Polytheism

I think this poll will not be very reliable because we will probably trade for some of the techs next few turns and new poll will have to be made.
Let us use this poll to make priorities when trading so we can trade for techs we want to research most. I am suggesting this to avoid another short turnchat if we get some of the techs.

Well spoken Invy, let the short turn-chat supporters develop enough contigency plans and make proper pre-polling, so we are not enslaved by their haphazard organization.
I am not a proponent for too long turnchats either, but a natural end brought by synchronized planning of all departments, and the will of the DP to withstand skeptics who wants to poll all to death, and to stick to our schedule. The 100 turnchat quota which we will never reach, is not necessarily an evil.

I say aim for Literature, don't we get a free tech when we're the first to get it?

That is Philosophy, and even if Literature did, the benefit of Monarchy would be much better, anyway. Despotism is horrible for everything but unit support.

no thats with philosophy and in conquests, but it seems like u get free techs cause of libraries ;)

The only way to get free Techs in Vanilla Civ3 is by building the Great Library. Currently we don't have a Wonder building city. We need to change this.

Hey, was that a shot? :eek: :lol:

Even though it will take 20-some turns to discover Polytheism, I still support the Mysticism/Polytheism route.

Question for Rik: What happens if the people elect to buy Mysticism, and the Mysticism/Poly path wins here by 1-2 votes over Writing? Do we go to Poly or Writing?
