I would really like that if civA lost a city to civB then civB can rebuild all the improvements that were already there in that city at a cheaper cost(1/2 the shields). And if that city is recaptured by civA the same thing would happen but it would be even cheaper (1/4).
Now if a city is destoyed you can rebuild that city if you order a worker to settle. The newly found city, which would have had to be a certain size when destroyed, would have the name of the once destroyed city. And again rebuilding the improvement would be eaiser if it was a really new city (2/3 alrigth?).

Another thing, it would be really cool if city names changed trough time and civ owner. Example, the Greeks have a city called Constantinople but if the turks capture the city it would become Istanbul. Of course this could only work in world map scenarios.

Sounds like a good idea and it makes sense too, if theres a ruined city then a lot of the buildings will be half destoryed so you should only have to pay say half to repair it, the inprovements from the old city would appear in the inprovements bar in the city screen so you can see what buildings you can repair.

I like this. The infrastructure is mostly there, therefore easier to rebuild. Nice idea.

Let's not get too historical on Civ. I really wouldn't like to see Constantinople change names, simply because it happened in the past. But this isn't all that bad of an idea. Occasionally, a city will change names. Of course, this means you have to have the city list, and then the changed to city list.... but since it shouldn't happen as much the list need not be as big.

Thinking back to Leningrad & Stalingrad, maybe it would be a good idea to have a greater chance of a city changing it's name during a government change.

can't you change the city name as it is?

as for the rebuild idea, sounds good ... cities throughout history have been blown up or burnt down and rebuilt all the time (only to get blown up again of course) ...

Or at the change ages.

Yeah, you can change the city name yourself, but that takes a bit of the surprise out of it.

wish some Civ4 developers took a good look to this idea and see if it could be implemented before this thread dies.
