Well, my next "big" unit project is the advanced barbarian unit for my Final Fantasy mod. For those of you who played FF VII, you could encounter Death Machines in Junon on Disc 2 & 3. You could also come accross its weaker cousin, the Custom Sweeper, outside of Midgar. The preview I'm posting is about 80% complete, and needs a few minor adjustments and details added. A screenshot of one from the original game is inset in the top left corner for comparison.

Comments and suggestions are welcome. :)

Very good. :goodjob:

They could also be used as a second UU for the Shinra faction, if you're decide to use more than one UU for each civ.

Ogedai, all factions in the FF mod have 3 UU's, but I've already got Shinra's set. Shinra's UU's are the Grosspanzer (my next unit project  ), the SOLDIER, and the Attack Squad (uses the Armored Shock Infantry graphics that someone came up with a while ago). One of the reasons I'm doing this unit is for practice doing multiple missiles (matra magic) as well as walking motions (that animation is going to take forever for me to figure out, but I will get it done).

Well, last update tonight. I've pretty much got the model done, as well as some of the more important linking tests sorted out. I may add some more detail later, but not extremely likely (unless you guys aren't happy with it the way it is thus far). If anyone wants, they can use it for their UU in the CFC users' Mod (or it could be used by all, since Dease's SHT is being used in such a manner). I'm also tempted to give all civs modern era armor units (unique or otherwise) the ability to "salvage" (enslave) defeated mechanical opponents into Death Machines, except with much higher stats than the barbarian version (unless noone minds having barbs with 18 attack  )

Anyways, here's the preview with the missile pod and needle gun port open. Comments suggestions, etc always welcome. :)

Are you making units out of all the monsters from Final Fantasy...If so I'd only do the cool or common ones(Bombs, Behemoths, Molboros etc.) This is one of those things that teaches you Matra Magic early in the game right? Interesting choice for a unit HT...I know I've probably said this alot lately...but I got Poser(but have yet to use it...been busy)..when I finally get to using it, I'm going to give unit making a try..and theres alot of Final Fantasy stuff I'd like to make into units(Namely Imperial Magitek Armor and Imperial Sky Armor from Final Fantasy 6)

Not really, I just decided to do this one because I thought it was kinda cool. I might do the bombs as an early "cruise missile," but I don't know. If you do do all that cool stuff from FF VI, I'd definitely use it in my mod. I'll be starting a game once I start rendering animations for this unit (rendering usually ties my computer up for about 4 hours per animation).

BTW, I've been using Bryce 5 to animate, and for the two most recent units, model. Once I get the walking animation down, and find some decent props, I'll be willing to try doing some human type units in Poser 5.

This is not the one you first can get matra magic from. That one is the Custom Sweeper, which is beige rather than red, and much weaker. This bad boy is first encountered on Disc 2, when you have to escape from Junon, as well as when you raid the underwater reactor for the huge materia. I MAY do a Custom Sweeper variant as the barb unit, and use this as a unit created when modern age offensive units (Samurai, Advanced Airship, Heavy tank, etc) "salvage" (enslave) defeated enemy mechanical units, since I'm not using the enslave ability for anything else, and it'd be a shame to see it go to waste.

Yes...since the Custom Sweeper is a beginning of the game unit...it would be much weaker than anything that appeared by disk 2..

Bombs probably would be pretty easy to make..just a floating animation and an explode animation, plus you could release different colored ones to create "Grenades", "Balloons"(A purple bomb from Final Fantasy 4) and Cotapotros(Orange Bombs from FFX)..

Well, thanks for the comments and criticism, so far. I've got the Attack A animation more or less done. Those who've played FF VII ought to recognize this one right off the bat. If you have any suggestions for improving it, be my guest. I'll see about finishing it tomorrow night, if noone has any complaints.

Reno: Annoying? Shucks, I always enjoyed stealing W/Machine guns from them (pretty decent weapon for Barett, not to mention they have a good re-sale value), and morphing them into remedies (I think that's what they morph to, It's been a while since I've played VII).

Anyways. preview below.

Hmm i all they did to me was teach enemy skills and die way too easy... :crazyeye:

That's because I try to steal everything an enemy has the first time I encounter it in any FF game I play. That way, if it has some good stuff, I make a point of steling it in before killing the enemy in any future engcounters.

Anyways, Odin, I'd appreciate it if you didn't make fun of my boss. :p At least he's better than Adolph Clinton ever was.

Alright, enough sidetracking. I've got the final version of the attack a animation finished, after fixing a few errors (including one where i had the wrong texture on a boolean object, causing a red patch to show up where it wasn't supposed to  ). So, without further ado, I present Matra Magic, one of the more useful enemy skills early in the game (up until I acquired aqualung immediately prior to visiting the Gold Saucer for the first time. That ability cut the boss fight with Dyne down to about 4 rounds).

BTW, the unit is about the same size as the cavalry, but shorter in height and length and about half again as wide.

Well, like Demi1, Demi2, or Demi3, Matra Magic is a Gravity Elemental Based attack, and those usually don't work on bosses in any of square's games...kudos to you HT for actually finding a boss that it does work on!

Adolph Clinton...... There was actually a commercial airing in Yugoslavia during the NATO campaign against Slavadon Milosivich which had Clinton dressed like Adolph Hitler with the Star Wars Imperial March song playing in the background...it was quite comical.

No...still havent' been able to try Poser....its my mom's and she still hasn't like me us it yet...but soon...

Well, I know it works like that in FF IX: i.e. if the monster could be affected by Gravity or Dark elemental, it's HP would be reduced to 1, otherwise nothing happened. In Final Fantasy VII, however, Matra Magic was a Non-Elemental Bule Magic spell that did non elemental damage to all enemies in a group that was equal to 100+10xYour Magic stat, or something like that. I made it a point to reach at least level 20 before leaving Midgar, so that meant that I was dishing out approximately 300 points of damage each time I used it. It was the best spell I usually had at that point in time, since it was like having an attack all with unlimited "all" effects. Of course, at higher levels it doesn't do enough damage to be worth it, and you've got way better stuff, like Pandora's Box, Trine, Beta, Aqualung, and Magic Breath. If you're a REALLY munchkin player (like I am  ), you can morph certain enemies into magic sources, and use those to boost your Mag stat to max. If you do that, Matra magic can do around 3000 points of damage. For only needing 8 MP to cast, that's pretty darn good (especially against weaker enemies).

Adolph Clinton...... There was actually a commercial airing in Yugoslavia during the NATO campaign against Slavadon Milosivich which had Clinton dressed like Adolph Hitler with the Star Wars Imperial March song playing in the background...it was quite comical.

I find that somewhat disturbing, if not rather accurate. :crazyeye:

Well, good luck on that...

Phillipe: Right now, I'm the only Final Fantasy Unit creator on ANY of the boards (that's including CDG and Apolyton), and you can count all the mischellaneous FF modder's on one hand. Clam I Am has made a FF VII map, as well as some Ancient cities (like the Lost Capitol in FF VII), which I'm using as the ancient era cities for the Shinra Civ in my mod, although I haven't heard from Clam I Am since May or June. Qwertysoft is working on a FF Tactics mod, but it's been months since he's posted any kind of updates, and Frenchman did a Rikku leaderhead for me about a month ago, but he's gotten out of the leaderhead business for the most part.

So basically, that leaves me, myself and I working on this mod, with help from Sword of Geddon, Grandraem and others in the form of screenshots of FF XI leaders, and civ info for FF IV and Tactics. I've also created over a dozen FF based wonders and small wonders, as well as 3 units (4 if you count my Red Wing Variant of the Steam Airship I did recently). You can look in the Unit Artist's library to find the units, and the link in my sig for all other graphics.

Anyways, enough of me flapping my gums. The real reason I'm posting is because I've got the other two attack animations done. The following preview will probably give veteran FF VII players a bad case of shell shock  Order of attacks in preview: Matra Magic, W-Machine Gun, and 100 Needles.

It looks great, but i think the FF7 one was a little taller (the legs were straighter) and more of a dark blue color...

But nonetheless, awesome unit.

Odin: Yeah, it would probably be best if we left politics out of the discussion..... Politics, what an appropriate term to describe the whole mess, though. It comes from the latin words "Poly", meaning "many" and "Ticks" meaning "small blood sucking parasites" :p

Hunter: the ones in FF VII were maybe a little bit taller, but I like the way this one looks (it seems better balanced somehow). The Dark blue-green one was the Custom Sweeper, a color variant that I'll be making once I get all the animations finished.

Anyways, here's the latest update: Fortify/fidget, and Victory animations done. Preview below.

Oder: Fidget/fortify, Matra Magic (attack A), W-Machine Gun (attack B), 100 Needles (attack C), and victory.
