I've been thinking of an idea which would bring Crimson Skies to Civ3.

BASICLY if you dont know what Crimson Skies is...
http://www.crimsonskiesuniverse.com/ you can read through that.
http://www.ent-hq.com/forest/cs-map.gif this is the nation map

A brief history (more indepth history can be found on the site listed above) is that after World War I there was a new party called the Regionist whom believed America should break up into it's regions. In the Presidential Elections and such there was a huge cold illness across America, thereby more people could not vote, the Regionalist won many seats. Prohibition lead states to use their national guards to attack other states because of border crossing smugglers and such. The Stock Market crash of 1929 was the final straw as the Republic of Texas was founded. (Correct me if I'm wrong) Then New York and it's surrounding states left the Union. The President of the United States then declared Martial Law on Washington DC and pulled the entire army (or what was left of it... most left because they could not get paid) and occupied Maryland, DC, and Deleware. After that the nation fell into it's regions.

After this these new nations were allowed delegates to the League of Nations. But the hostilities are growing more and more each passing day between the nations. Intense raids on the borders made the whole of America stop rebuilding the rails and the roads and to turn to the skies. Massive Zepplins roam the skies as personal aircraft act as the new tank. America did not fall in love with the car... she fell in love with the aircraft. Pirates now roam the skies as nation's air forces are trying to destroy their resistances.

At this time Japan is expanding it's Imperial Empire, the Nazi Party is gaining clout in Germany, and England and France are preparing for war. England is currently on conquest plans to take The Kingdom of Hawai'i... making a complete circle around Japan so they could not expand anymore.

The Map will be done on the best North American map that I can find, provided the maker gives permission. Or a completely new map will be made.

If you wish to provide for this project then you are more then welcome to produce anything. This includes Leaderheads and Units (Leaderheads can be flags and units can be found on the Crimson Universe) I will attempt to make units and leaderheads, if I have to then I will finish it all up. Remember that these units are airplanes, but they will function as a type of ground unit.

After this project is over with... I'd like to expand the storyline into the start of World War II in 1939. I Personally see the majority of America not getting involved in the war, but nations like the Canadian Nations, Confederation of Dixie, and French Lousiniana joining in the war within the first week or so. Then having nations such as The Empire State and the Industrial States of America joining the Nazi Party and fighting for Germany.

Comments? Suggestions?

Update 8/28

c3csmap.jpg

I've tried out the nation layout on Sourboy's North America map
( http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=96895 )
And this is what I've got so far. The nations are not in the perfect border setup, but I believe it's close enough (it'll improve on final detail). There are two new nations added not mentioned in the Crimson Skies. These nations are Mexico and Cuba (put in to fill in the map and to add more conquest options).

This plot is really absurd...

But also, I just discovered tonight a conspiracy by rich bankers in 1934 to overthrow the Roosevelt government... so hey... you never know.

And there was another plot to take over the government right after WW1 that was led by a group of veterans.

Speaking of which, in the past I thought that it was treasonous to even consider such a thing. But after re-reading the Declaration of Independence, it's not that far off.

Well... technically, that's what treason is. I mean, the founding fathers committed treason by breaking away from Britain. But treason is, sometimes, justifiable... at least it's usually made justifiable by the people who win.

Btw, if you could give me some information on the first plot after WWI, I'd be very grateful... All of this stuff is important to secondary book of my alternate history.

True enough.

Let me see if I can dig it up.

I have the manual for Crimson Skies. Here's the history from the game:
SO WHAT HAPPENED?
The first signs of change started with the post–World War I influenza epidemic. Isolationism grew in popularity as many fell to a disease brought back from Europe by returning servicemen.
President Woodrow Wilson’s push to form a League of Nations outraged U.S. citizens and allowed Warren G. Harding’s “New Independence from Europe” campaign to flourish. Harding called for greater separation from the world, and his Regionalist party adopted this as its platform’s theme. When the Regionalists won office in 1920, they used their new power to promote Prohibition.
In 1923, however, President Harding died. His successor, Calvin Coolidge, refused to support Prohibition and the Federal bill languished in congressional committees.
Meanwhile, Prohibition became a battle between ideologically distinct regions in America. Checkpoints appeared on state borders as authorities tried to restrict the flow of alcohol. Many states used these checkpoints to levy unofficial—and highly illegal—tariffs.
In 1927, a new and deadly strain of influenza ravaged the country. States closed their borders and converted their liquor checkpoints into quarantine-enforcement sites. Smugglers and raiders adopted the airplane to avoid the limitations of ground-based transportation.
The election of 1928 suffered from low voter turnout, as most people avoided large groups for fear of contracting influenza. The Regionalists launched their “Strong State” platforms and effectively curtailed the Federal government’s power.
In October of 1929, the stock market crash was the final blow to the United States. Regionalism had decimated the national economy and Washington D.C.’s call for financial assistance from state governments was universally rejected.
On January 1, 1930, Texas seceded from the United States, with California, the Carolinas, Utah, and New York quickly following their lead. Unable to mount the political and military campaign necessary to hold the United States together, Washington was now powerless.
As the Federal government crumbled, the vast majority of the nation’s military deserted or swore allegiance to their native states. Many sold their skills as mercenaries or bandits.
North America’s fascination with airplanes now became a necessity, as commerce between the new independent nations ground to a halt. Brushfire wars demolished the intercontinental railway system, and the highways quickly fell into disrepair or were sabotaged.
The automobile, once destined to become the national shipping vehicle, gave way to gyrotaxis, aerobuses, and the large cargo zeppelins that commanded the skylines.
“Air pirates” captured the public eye during this period of turmoil. Small, disorganized bands of thrillseekers and publicity hounds, these pirates began crime sprees that would inspire others.
The first serious pirate threat came in 1931.
Jonathan “Genghis” Kahn—a former businessman from Chicago—created the infamous Red Skull Legion. The Skulls moved into Utah (posing as People’s Collective
militia) where they stole a military zeppelin. Low-intensity border skirmishes between the new nation-states continued through 1935. Amidst the chaos, bootleggers and pirates thrived. Scores of new militias, most determined to defend their states, battled
increasingly colorful and flamboyant raiders. The Redmann Gang, the Red Skull Legion, the Black Swans, and other pirate groups pillaged across national boundaries.
The nation-states continued to subsidize their air wings but also began offering Letters of Marque to pirates, allowing them to legally attack the nation’s rivals.
Today, North America is a continent politely at war with itself. Rival militias fall on each other in defense of their own national interests. Pirates and privateers
challenge these militias for control of the skies, and they are often victorious.
The air lanes are the new frontier, where a single individual with skill and nerve can make all the difference.
Today’s flyers are men and women to be applauded, feared, but above all respected, for as long as they can push the envelope and maintain their hold
on the skies. We have given them this power. The sky is the limit—but five thousand feet up makes for a long fall from glory.

I believe we could make it where Zepplins could carry aircraft. Because the aircraft will be acting as land units. Maybe the Zepplins could have an extremely high defense rate to give it the purpose as Aircraft carrier.

In the above map... #12 the Protectorate of the Outer Banks becomes the Protectorate of the Confederacy and then they join the Confederacy of Dixie. Currently there are three major players in the world... The Empire State is being attacked by the South, and the nation of Hollywood and the Empire State are at bitter rivalries as they both say that they're the best on the landmass.

Special Units will be dubbed after that nation's pirate group or air armada name (example... The Confederation of Dixie's Special unit might be the 1st Georgian Valiant Class)

Are there any ideas for the armies? We could produce armies and replace the leader image with something more fitting, like an airplane or something to symbolize like the lead ace at the front.

We could also use some World War II Airplanes and some World War I Airplanes. Like the Techtree can start off using World War I Planes in 1930... later researching the acual Crimson Skies planes.. then later on you can research the start of some World War II Planes.

If enough people are interested then we can meet up... or I can just post an item list that we need.

The info and map I posted is from the PC manual.
You could have the different militias and pirates, but that's if they are needed, as you can't have all of them (there is a civ limit of 31).
WWI era planes won't do any good, first they were made of canvas and wood. In WWI they were still experimenting with aircraft. I think they had better planes by the 1930s (before the Great Depression).
If you are having upgrading planes, and the game lasts to beyond WWII, what effect would the jet engine have (even though it was invented in the mid 30s by an Englishmen, it wasn't used until late in WWII by Germany, and afer the war by Britain (Britain was originally going to put it in a car))?

Yeah... the map is right, the map you gave us shows the states that were formed. But that state joined up with another later on.

What I meant by Militia and Pirates are it's special units... the elite ones and such. Like the ISA could make the unique unit Red Skull Legion Brigande

The game would start on 1930... end on 1939. Counting weeks, (two per turn), this leaves 24x9 (number of half months per year times the number of playable years) about 216 total turns.

But what I'm saying is that we could find some planes made at the start of 1929 and start the techtree with that. The majority of the air aces in Crimson Skies were barn stormers and World War I aces. Which means the majority of them used World War I planes and such.

Land units can carry land units- yet the Ai doesn't use these
Well... the whole concept of having aircraft in zepplins is merely to make it relate to the game and storyline better. The vast majority of planes take off from the ground, only a few long range missions require zepplins (Soviets use them, Germans use them, etc etc)
