Quick SG. 6 players. Conquests scenario as the Empire. No variant. just want to win.

Roster:
Bede
Mauer
Viper275
AK
danz
scoutsout

50 turns. Play 4/5 at a time. Let's go sink the rising sun. :)

I'm in. What can I say, I'm a sucker for AK's SG games.

Nice addition. Tell my wife i'm not the fool she thinks I am. I just PM a little boy who we will let in if he agrees.

This will be 5 or 6 players depending on the boy with strange coat. Everyone gets 5 turns. The mad monk starts us cause of his sublime MM skills. :)

Just a quick check in. I've played this scenario before... but not as Commonwealth. This should be interesting.

One thing I've noted: If we can trade any surplus lux to an ally in the first IBT, we can get a nice pile of cash... use cash to finish-rush partial builds...

I suppose we'll need to build a few combat engineers in this one, huh? :p

Thoughts on research?

Edit: Whoops! Looks like I was a little slow on the draw there. Oh well... maybe next time around.

you said you had a date already. thus, I didn't put you in the roster. If all agree, I'll slot in scout.

@ scout - if the boy with the odd coat wants to take his ball and go home, you're in.

@ all - thoughts before we start? Mine are WE NEED WORKERS!

I have never played this one before, but I'm not sure workers is the way to go first. I'll have to open it and check it out. I think Bede can make a good choice on that one. I am curious how the opening attacks will go.

Well... they'll pretty much mimic history. Playing as Americans you get to watch a couple of regular battleships sink... and you get to watch Wake Island fall...and some other stuff. As China you get to see them come at you from several angles (and Japan starts with several cities on the chinese mainland already).

With the Commonwealth I suspect we'll have our hands full at Singapore, and we're probably in for some jungle fighting in SE Asia.

:rotfl:

I think that's me. I am going to pass on this, though I appreciate the invite. If it was open, I would have watched the first few sets, and then slipped one in when I was familiar with the game. As it is, I think I would do more harm than good, the Conquests are definitely not my strong suit. Now that I think of it, not too sure what my strong suit is....

Besides, I already stole a spot from Scout recently....:p

Wanna wish you good luck though!

Care to steal my next set in Bede2?

Oh yeah - each civ has a more-or-less unique footsoldier ("American G.I.")... among the allies I don't think they're anything special. I think we get the "ANZAC Trooper" or something like that.

...but the one to watch out for is the Nipponese Infantry. I think that's the one that has an extra movement point. They'll be a pain in the early game.

Not on your life. As a matter of fact, I feel a sudden case of Pneumonia coming on that may force me to take a skip when mine come up.

Never played this, but looks like Hong Kong could quickly become a lost cause if you don't have many units there.

Seems like your cities are pretty spread out. How feasable is it to make consolidation your first goal? Those Japanese cities on the Vietnam (?) peninsula seem like they would give you a nice little empire...

If there's a good chance that a big city like Hong Kong would fall, we might want to consider one of several options:

1) Spend all our money. That's right, spend it all. Why give the attacker a cut of our savings? Let them take a cut of $0.00 !!!
2) Abandon threatened city. Scorched earth tactics! Don't give them the satisfaction of getting ANYTHING out of the battle!
3) Gift the city to an AI. This might not work in this scenario, because it's essentially everyone versus Japan, so either way the city is going to get taken by the Japanese. But if it's taken from someone with no savings, then it's not as bad as us getting looted.

Um... lemme give you a little pointer on this scenario: The game begins as though you're at the end of a turn. Aside from MMing cities, making some trades with allies, and maybe cash-rushing a thing or two, the only thing you get to do is "Press Enter or Spacebar to Continue". No troops will have a movement point. To make matters worse, the ones in cities won't even be fortified.

And yes... there is a "good chance" that Hong Kong will fall. ;) ...and I "suspect" we'll want to mobilize "soon". There won't be much "siezing the initiative" in the early going. We will start on our heels. Be prepared to dig those heels in.

Make sure you spend it wisely... we'll have empty shield boxes...my $0.02: Rush a few workers... but they can't take our whole treasury. We'll need some cash to trade techs too...
2) Abandon threatened city. Scorched earth tactics! Don't give them the satisfaction of getting ANYTHING out of the battle!
Hong Kong is a victory point location. We must simply resolve to take it back if we can.
3) Gift the city to an AI. This might not work in this scenario, because it's essentially everyone versus Japan, so either way the city is going to get taken by the Japanese. But if it's taken from someone with no savings, then it's not as bad as us getting looted.
And then our allies will have less cash to pay us for say... tank technology...

Don't get me wrong - it's good that you're thinking - but this scenario is designed around a specific piece of history. If we were Japan we would have the early advantage, but we would be resource poor and fighting in every direction...

Reporting for duty S'arnt Major Admiral.

Let's see what we can do.

Want me to start it at Sid?

Haven't played this for months. Even then it was before the sensei learned me about MM. :)

My .02 - no point in wonders. We a big island way away to the SE from the action. WE NEED AIRPOWER!. To get airpower, we need some workers to speed things up.

Hong Kong is a lost cause - see history. We should try to keep Singapore and Ragoon et. al.

Think "Fleet in being" (if it is not dead, it is a threat) and airpower, IIRC we can build lots of bombers on the big island to the south and fly them to Singapore or wherever.

The Phillipines are lost. Get over it.

I really want heavy bombers and jet engines. IIRC we're gonna need fighters too.

As much as it saddens me, I don't think we need heavier tanks.

Fedexing some white lighting to the mad monk for inspiration. Seriously curious about MM and builds from Bede.

EDIT: xpost - my shoes are still on, not sure, I can count to sid. Pleez keep at emperor for those of us slow people

@Admiral K- Can you put me a little lower in the list. I won't be able to play for a couple of days and don't want a skip in the first round :crazyeye:

Think they're kind of like keshiks, but jungle instead of mountains.
