Guys... I will need your help, input and feedback on this.

In my mod, I have 75+ (!) civilizations, bundled in 3 different scenarios ("World Domination": 4-8 per continent; "Old World Strife": Europe, Africa, Mid-East and "New World Conquest": North and South America plus two Polynesian civs). Now stupid me wants to make each civ as distinctive and historically correct as possible. You know the deal: Let them build their own wonders and buildings, let them have their artists, composers, philosophers... etc. For example, I want Germany to be the only civ which can build Bach's cathedral. (after all, the guy WAS German!) England would build the Canterbury Cathedral, Spain the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela and so forth. You get the picture, right?

What I'd like to do is to give each civ about 3 to 6 technologies per era that are specific to that particular civ only. Sounds easy and straightforward, yes?

Well.. the "only" problem is the sheer size of this project.

It would be great if there's people among you who think that this is an interesting project and arewilling to "adopt" one of the 75 civilizations and come up with a customized tech tree for that particular civ.

Oh, by the way, the generic tech tree is closely modeled on DyP, with several additions at the end of the modern era.

how will you have techs for all four eras for civs that really haven't been around for all four eras? (i.e. canada)

Well, if he does it the way I've done it, you move colonial techs to the Ancient era... and for ancient civs, you make up techs based on their specialties for the modern eras.

Well... I intended the "later" civs (ex-colonies such America, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, etc) to be in the game right from the get-go. However, if you choose to play one of them, you will have it somewhat harder to advance technologically and militarily until you reach the time of colonization. Before that, there'll be no civ-specific wonders or small wonders and your units will be more expensive to build also. Also, I planned only one civ-specific technology for them during Ancient Times. (Merely a stepping-stone if you will...)

There are more than four eras in America,

1. Colonial Era
2. Frontier Era
3. Civil War Era
4. War Era(WW1 to Vietnam)
5. Modern Era

Other Countries that began as Colonys probably also have different eras.

The Civs could be represented as their parent countries until the late Middle Ages(Imperial Age)

Canada :D good jobee, mate!

I would suggest 'fur trade' for a Canadian tech. A wonder could be Hudson's Bay Company.

Edit: Military related stuff would be neat to include too: Beaver Wars > Queen Anne's War > Seven Year's War (what you Americans know as the French and Indian war, I believe) > War of 1812 > Rebellions of ~1837 > North-West Rebellion (Mounties!) > Boer War > World Wars I & II > Korea > Modern Peacekeeping
I don't know how all that would be incorporated though.

I think some colonial countries (such as Canada) could be represented by the colonizers and even the native peoples in earlier eras. (You can see Beaver Wars above, which only took place in around -future- Canadian soil.)

Yeah, on the idea of representing a colonial civ with their mother civ until Late Medieval/Early Industrial times. What I've done with America ever since my first mod was to represent them with American Indian units (Steph's Delaware conversions) until around 1500 AD, then with English units until around 1750 AD, when the Minuteman replaces the English Arquebusier/Musketeer line. Also, the Frontiersman comes into play around that time. (Actually a little bit earlier).

Thats another good way to do it I think. In my mod's expansion, I've taken America out altoghether, and I added two addition Native American Civs.

Due to the amount of great Native American Units availible here, I can represent the Native Americans with their own units all the way up until WW1.

RedAlert... "Fur Trade", that's a good one! I guess it would be in the Industrial Era, maybe as the first "real" Canadian tech! As far as all the different wars go, I'm not to happy with wars as tech advances. (even though they say war is the mother of all things. ) Are there any scientific/cultural events that pertain to Canada for the most part?

I like "Modern Peacekeeping" as a tech though...

I've got Trapping for the Americans in mine to cover the fur trade... it allows a building called a Trading Post that increases trade but requires furs in the city radius.

As for American eras, I'd say it'd be more like this:

Colonial Era
Early Republic
Civil War
Gilded Age
Progressive
Depression
World War II
Cold War
Modern

The Guilded Age was a term coined by Mark Twain to describe the era of big business, Reconstruction, and political corruption following the Civil War. And basically it sort of comes to a conclusion with the Progressive Era when big business is somewhat reined-in and political corruption is dealt with more severely... reforms and such like that.

That's when my great, great grandfather came into play in SD... he was a Progressive... :smug:

Scientific/cultural, eh?

There are many things you could use for these (hockey might be popular!)

A big one I would suggest though is the 'Quiet Revolution' in Quebec, starting in the 1960's. It lead to major Quebec's modernization, nationalism (and seperatism) but also helped lead to things such as bilingualism + multiculturalism in Canada as a whole.

Another big Canadian 'thing' is our rapid expansion and settlement of the west. This includes all sorts of concepts such as: Fur trade, Mounties, North West Rebellion, Explorers, Immigrants, Transcontinental Railway, Prairie farmers, Metis & Native Americans.
I'm not exactly sure how/what to incorporate there, though.

Scientific things should be put in as well, but it does not seem there should be a tech (or something) for any one Canadian scientific achievement. Perhaps combining them??

Here are some techs:

American:

1. Manufest Destiny: This tech enables American Pioneer units. Settlers that cost One population, and can attack and defend themselves.

Haida:

1. Totems: The Haida were one of the leading creators of Totems.

2. Armored Raiding: The Haida were the only Native American tribe to use armor and helmuts.

Hockey... ohh yeah. I know it came from Canada and the NHL is rather young, too young. Plus it's also big and beloved in America, especially in the Northeast. But I'd like to bring Hockey into the game, as a Canadian Small Wonder. Do you know what the first offical Canadian Hockey league was called and when it was founded?

"Western Expansion", that could be another tech advance. Would allow explorer units, called Woodsmen (or maybe you have a good French name for them?) I will make a concept sketch and request this unit. The Mountie could also come with this tech.

"Prairie Farming", another one. Would increase food yield per square and could also allow a Small Wonder: Grain Elevator.

"Trans-Continental Railway", I'm not sure whether that should be a Great Wonder instead of a tech. If it's a wonder, then what should the tech be called? Maybe there should be a follow-up tech to "Western Expansion"...

"Bilingualism", I love that one. Allows city improvement "Multi-Cultural Center". Increases happiness etc.

:hmm: That sounds familiar.... :p
