Any interest in Emperor WWII Conquests Scenario as Japan/US/China? AK2 (as Commonwealth) was fun and fast. Anyone who wants to play should have passing familiarity with SG rules. Complete idiots (such as myself) are also welcome. Will also accept incomplete idiots who are actively searching for parts to complete themselves. Looking for 4-5 players to play 5 turns at a time.

Japan's easy, so either China or USA. You'll get attacked a lot as China early on but it's easier to attack Japan. Besides Pearl Harbor, USA doesn't get hit by Japan too much in my experience, but it's a bit more difficult to attack them (core cities are at the end of the map.)

This is a sign up. I had lots of fun as the Commonwealth and am looking forward to this. I was amazed how fast AK2 went (I think it was under a week.) One last thing: I suppose this depends on the civ and the players, but any idea on what level it'll be at?
EDIT: How many AK games have I been in? I think I outdid danz.

Woohoo, I'm not too late yet. Sounds like some good practice in warmongering so sign me up! I don't really prefer a certain civ because I don't have any real familiarity with this conquest scenario.

@ viper - emperor

@ all - Who wants to go first? One spot still open.

I took a good look at the Chinese this morning. Republic, not a lot of cities. Even the capital doesn't have a factory! The rail net is not complete. There are 2 japanese armies in SE asia. Building bombers is a waste of time as the zeros will just shoot them down. Gonna need fighters or flak unless we want to watch continuous stream of bombers. Need lots of workers. Need MG battalions quick. We're going to need to rush 1-2 factories on turn 1 (the turn where we can't move) and then mobilize on turn 2.

@AK - Sounds like a plan, or should I say an idea? :)

Seeing as how I probably have the least experience in modern warfare I'll refrain from taking the first turns. Hopefully I'll have a good idea about how to do things in this scenario after some others have played their turns.

I have questions.

1. If we rush a factory in Dec 1941 and mobilize in Dec 1941, will the factory complete in Jan 1942 or will the mobilization change it to something else?

2. Do airbases ever get bombed by the AI? It seems that basing airpower in cities is an all around bad idea in this scenario.

3. Research. Should we bother? We have that nice locked alliance to help us.

1. It will be. Anything started pre-mobilization is continued IIRC (at least that was what happened to me once as Japan.)
2. I'm not sure, but I don't see it happen too much (although it occaisionally happens.)
3. Get Fighter Bombers/Heavy Bombers then turn off the research (or get better tanks then turn it off.) At Emperor they'll research fairly quickly, and we should get a lot of money from this, perhaps even a little for a cash rush.

December of 1941 will be pretty painful (we can't move but Japan can) especially because of the fact that we can't fortify units, but I think we can recover from there. Anyone from AK2 as the Commonwealth want to try again?

I did an experiment. I bought a factory in Chengdu, then mobilized. Next turn it was producing a light tank. Anyone else have any experience? Also did some more cipherin' - we have ten cities. Nanning looks gone after turn 1; I can't figure out any way to reinforce it should it somehow withstand the initial assualts.

Hmm... that's weird. I'll test it.

Is there a need to mobilize on the very first turn? Why not wait until the first playable turn after the factory is done?

10 cities? *Hides in corner* Nanning looks gone, Foochow doesn't look good either. Should we still go with China or try the USA?

Think of it as a challenge. Should we drop to regent or warlord? This is supposed to be a relaxed, "easy", game.

No, it's fine with me. I found the Commonwealth one relaxed and easy.

Tested the factory rush and you're right, it didn't work.

What about the cities around Manila? Nothing wrong with China though.

The Americans usually lose a town or two in the Phillipines on the first turn. I've also never seen the Japanese take Nanning on the first turn. I vote for China; a challenge is good.

China is an easy win on Monarch for me, and that was before I even found Civfanatics. I am assuming that the 4 of you should be able to win on Emporer pretty solidly. If you want to bring the mustard, and I would check with Scoutsout and SesnofWthr, and Bede, but I could see a Deity Chinese game going.
Hmm, that gives me an idea.
I heartily suggest Monarch + for you guys. Artillary and Railnet, along with your few fighters, will go a long way.

I can say China isn't too hard; I won it on Sid... only after like 2 tries IIRC. :)

It's just the first few turns... then Japan gets better bombers... you just need to build a lot of flaks in the beginning in the less-productive towns... and in the better ones MG battallions.

The most NW town can IIRC get to a 2-turn worker farm with some RRing.

And, as I said, in the beginning flaks are they key, and defence. Later you can start on tanks.

Good luck. :)

Okay, thanks for the advice! China it is. Scout, Bede, and Sesn are great players and I would like it if one of them joins.

Deity... that could be fun if we want a bigger challenge. Checked the editor and the AI doesn't get the bonuses of units and so on for the difficulties in this Conquest, just production (and the corruption is higher at Emperor, Deity, and Sid) tech research, trade, free support, and so on. So Deity actually sounds possibly doable depending on who else joins. I guess I've been convinced that China isn't too hard.

Acutally I checked with Bede, and he is in. I think I will end up making my game, then have them run in mirror style. No offense, but there are a few tricks and schemes up my sleeve on this conquest.
