Public Polls

Yea!! Public Polling!! Best thing since sliced bread! We love it!! [dance] :band: :thanx:  It does away with sneaky votes. It holds our Leaders accountable. It authenticates a vote change request. All polls should be public! No more hiding.

Sliced bread is so out. Bagels are in now. Melted cheese and ham inside a bagel!

Well then, we should do away with the "View Results" button available on all Polls. If someone is so easily swayed in their voting practices that they will vote with the majority, then viewing the current vote placements is jsut as bad for these people. If the people who have a problem with public polling are using this as part of their stance, then they should demand change in the current poll structure, as the view results button may sway some of our timid voters to "vote with the majority". ;)

This is a game, we are supposed to be having fun, not worying about what someone across the globe thinks about our voting. We should be declaring our votes with the same vigor we declare our right to vote. We shouldn't be ashamed of our votes.

The main advantage to it is the ability to change votes. I like a secret ballot, but changing your mind is more important when it comes to relatively unimportant issues.

If we've done 4 prior DGs without public polling, and they all went fine, why do we need to use it this game? If you don't need it, why switch? If it works without it, there's no need to add it, imo. Also, it gives you another level of security when voting that people won't attack you for what you voted for in the poll.

GA, we didn't have the public polling options in the first four DGs. Luckily, with the upgrade (key word here is upgrade) we now have that option. We did need it, clear back in DG1. There were plenty of issues back then that this could have resolved.

Also, as I've said before, the Justice Department is here to protect you from low-lifes that would attack you just because you voted differently than they did. There's no need to be afraid. I can personally gauruntee that anyone who attacks you will have to deal with the Judiciary.

I see what you are saying. But there are some things that the Judicary isn't able to do. If I don't want to vote because that isn't the way most of the people are voting and I don't want to be questioned why I voted for that (even in a polite manner), the Judicary can't do anything (to the best of my knowledge - I don't know everything in the ruleset). I don't like sharing my votes with people. In a democracy, it is not "polite" to ask people what they voted for - why should I do that here? ;)

If the world thought that way, do you think we'll be at a place that is so much different than it was 100 years ago?

i am against changing your votes, especially in elections, cc matters, etc..

We don't use it for those, for privacy reasons. But I think you should be able to change your vote in any election.

It may be easier for voting blocks to exist with secret polling, which is a BIG problem.
Now we can at least see we got relatively individual voters.

Having public polls sometimes makes sense, but then there are those votes that just need to be kept hush hush. If you want to change public polling practices petition the judiciar or whoever is going to make the poll.

Actually, it would be harder with a private poll. A person can choose to vote against a block without fear of reprisal or discovery. A public poll makes a voting block possible due to vote verification.

Sorry, that's a poor arguement, Provolution.

Well, I see no voting blocs Ravensfire, I work closely with Cyc and Blackheart for example. where Blackheart has never voted for the Monarchy route, and I have voted differently with Cyc on city locations. In this DG, no one has got their will through on a lasting basis. However, I do know that certain veterans have traditionally cowtowed each other, and even phrased that they voted along with their long term buddy/ally.
Sorry Ravensfire, what you consider poor ir actually the opposite experience for very many of us. Back to you Ravensfire, sorry yours was a poor argument.

My dad is bigger than your dad :) LOL
