:sigh: :(

I've inflicted another bug on the long-suffering GOTM Community. The original PTW saves posted last night (about 12 hours before the timestamp of this post) had the Ottomans as Militaristic and Industrious, instead of Scientific and Industrious.

The starting save files have now been fixed.

For any of you that have already started the game and want the traits manually changed, please e-mail the save to me and I'll fix it straight away.

Please accept my apologies for another Quality Control problem. :(

Edit: To save you the hassle of waiting for me to fix this, I have attached a utility program so that you can do it youself.

Note that it only works on Autosaves. Download it, unzip it and run it. Click the 'select file' button, and browse to the autosave directory. Select the latest autosave to fix, and you should get a message saying that the file is fixed. Now try playing with that file.

If this doesn't solve the problem, then you can still e-mail teh save to me and I will fix it ASAP. :)

I just noticed. But after entering the Middle Ages and not getting my free tech.

How will this effect the score? I have already built some barracks that I guess I got at a cheaper cost. Is it an alternative to keep the traits?
Since I'm aiming at 20 K victory, it will mostly effect the triggering of my golden age (luckily I haven't got any leaders to rush any wonders).

(I hope it's ok to send the save from the turn before entering Middle Ages so I can get my free tech, I stopped playing to check the forum when I didn't learn Monotheism)

Its fine to send me the save from just prior to the middle ages. Sounds like you haven't progressed far past that.

I thought that this was done on purpose  IIRC, Cracker questioned the logic behind giving the Ottomans scientific status when setting the scene of the previous Ottoman GOTM and I saw this as a logical progression from modding rival civ traits. I've got to 1325BC (but not expanded much as I'm also going for 20K) so I'll send you my save if that's OK.

I wondered why my libraries cost so much! I've got all the way to Chemistry! Will manually changing the save really help me? I'm not going for a military style victory... I was hoping for Space!

The Ottoman military was a complex system of recruiting and fief-holding. In the Ottoman army, light cavalry long formed the core and they were given fiefs called timars. Cavalry used bows and short swords and made use of nomad tactics similar to those of the Mongol Empire. The Ottoman army was once among the most advanced fighting forces in the world being one of the first to employ muskets. The famous Janissary corps provided elite troops and bodyguard for the sultan.

After the 17th century, however, the Ottomans could no longer produce a modern fighting force because of lack of reforms, mainly because of the corrupted Janissaries. The abolition of the Janissary corps in 1826 was not enough and in the war against Russia, the Ottoman Empire severely lacked modern weapons and technologies.

So, that means they were not scientific, and had a weak economy. They lost the edge, and completely fell behind by the industrial age. They were militaristic & corrupt.

Sorry to throw this in, but I'm trying to get to grips with Sulleiman the Magnificent so I can play in character... because I feel like it :crazyeye:

So are you going to play with the first (militaristic) download and stay in Despotism for the whole game? :D

Well, your other option is for us to modify the Jason bonus for your score, to reflect that you played with militaristic traits.

I'm sort of just 'opening my mouth' on this one - it should be possible, but I'm not 100% sure. :(

How do I e-mail my file to you?

I clicked your name in the above post, picked "send an e-mail to ainwood".

But I could not figure out how to send an attachment.

Shame I cannot play more than once, or I would consider it, except stay in Monarchy (which is what a Sultan is).

But I'm using Civ3 vanilla anyway, and I don't think that download is available.

Aaah, hm,

Can I keep the militaristic trait? Would be fine with me.

I also noticed that the scientific trait didn't work. To begin with I didn't get my free tech neither in the Middle ages nor the Industrial ages. The first time this happened (when I entered the Middle ages) I wasn't sure anymore that the Ottoman traits were Scientific/Industrious so I had to confirm this with the civilopedia.

Then I wondered why my libraries were so expensive. I couldn't start my GA so I had to change plans. But it suddenly started and I didn't understand how but it came perfect. Then ofcourse I didn't understand how I could get so many GL:s. I thought that it was my luck and not the game.

I won an early Conquestvictory and it probably did affect the game but it doesn't matter if I would have won a couple of turns earlier. Anyway! The map was great and I enjoyed playing it. Thanks Ainwood.

Too late I have it in writing! Jason bonus for me please! (a nice even 10k will do nicely!) :p

I think I might carry on with this as it is, unless people think the cheap unis and free tech are worth more to a potential space race? I suppose it depends on how much of a difference it would make to the scores in the end.
