I noticed that there were hooks in C3C for an Austrian civilization, with leaderhead, UU, civilopedia entry, and everything. My question is: how do I get everything hooked up so I can play it? I assume that I have to replace an existing civ/uu...but what all do I have to change? I looked around here for a while, but couldn't find any specific instructions, so any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks

you'd have to replace an existing civ through the editor and reference the game to look for the appropriate files (ie RACE_AUSTRIAN or whatever it says in the text files).

What ARE those files? I mean, say, for instance, I'm replacing the Americans -- I'd have to replace the advisor.pcx's, the leaderheads, and the Civilopedia stuff, I presume. I guess I'm asking: generically, what files all need to be redirected? I want to make sure I don't miss any.

Inside the editor, can I ADD a civilization to the list, or do I have to write over the "Americans" entry?

I *assume* that it's all a matter of redirecting stuff from the CivEditor, right? I mean: I'm not going to have to RENAME "Austrian" files with "American" names to replace ol' Abe, am I?

Also, what files need to be redirected for the UU?

And final question: are there Austrian cities listed anywheres, or do I need to dig up an atlas and start typing?

nonitchedfoot is right. the napoleanic conquest has the austrian civ artwork. it's prolly the flags IIRC. you can copy the text entries from the napolean conquest text files or you could type it in yourself.
the editor allows for 31 total civs plus barbarians
city names, leader names and science leaders can be found in the napoleanic europe biq file and i think there's a sticky thread in this forum with city lists for alot of civs.

You know there's a mod or two out there which add Austria to the game in expense of another civ. I would recommend replacing the Sumerians which I think Firaxis intended. Give Sumeria's traits to the Chinese, and the Chinese traits to the Austrians.

That's what I do. I never liked Sumeria.

Anyway, you'll want to do the stuff in the editor, which you can just copy from the Napoleon conquest. Then open the civilopedia.txt. I would do a "find" on "Sumeria" and "Sumerian" and then change it to the Austria info, which again can be copied from the Napoleon conquest.

Then you'll need to change the pediaicons.txt, and replace all the Sumerian or Gilgamesh references to the Austrian.

Of course, you don't have to replace anything, which would make it easier to add Sumeria back in.

And be sure to save a back up of everything.

I think someone already did this; search the modpack subforum.

Yeah, but I like the Koreans. They're cute. :)

There IS a Charles V leaderhead flc as well as a complete Civilopedia entry and description of the Hussar, the Austrian UU. For city names and leader names, I stole the entries from the Napoleonic scenario. I did NOT have to rename files or anything -- I just made the changes to the "removed" civ from the CivEditor (backing everything up, first,) and, amazingly, (almost) everything worked. Interestingly, the Civilopedia entry and leaderhead are NOT the ones from the Napoleonic scenario.

HOWEVER, I noticed that the "mini" pictures of Charles V (the small headshots in the F4 Diplomacy Advisor screen, the Civilopedia, and also in the "embassy/espionage" screen,) were missing -- nothing but a big "?" showing up there. Is there a small Charles V picture to link up to these anywhere? Any idea how I set it up?

Thanks for all of your help!

I couldn't get the small Charles pic working either. Strange you have the same problem.

I wonder if you just have to substitute the files....there are clearly static Charles pics in the Conquests/Art file for use in the Civilopedia and foreign advisor screen. (in other words, if you replace Sumerians, rename the files so that they say "sumeria" or whatever the file name is).

In the editor. You see where it says Animations? For the anicent era, enter:

"X2_Charles_ancient_fwrd.flc" for the forward flic
"X2_Charles_ancient_bwrd.flc" for the backward flic

For the industrial era:

"X2_Charles_indust_fwrd.flc" for the forwards flic
"X2_Charles_indust_bwrd.flc" blah, blah, blah

You get the idea. Also download the Pedia Icons text for the "Austrians replace the Koreans" mod. Don't worry, you'll still have your precious Koreans.

One last thing: be sure that you set the Diplomacy Text Index to 26, the index for the Austrians from the Napoleonic War scenario; otherwise, Charles V will use the dialogue of whatever civilization he replaces.
