The Cubans would be an especially interesting civilization to make, due to it's two-faced history.

What makes them unique is how they can be such a presence in the world, yet not have as much technology or size as most countries of their influence. Their current position is based on a stronge military defence and extremely powerful, aggresive allies.

Leader: Fidel Castro

Capital: Havana

Abilities: No doubt about it, one of the abilites HAS to be Military. But the other can be one of three things depending on which aspect of Cuba you want to represent in their history: Expansionist (pre-Columbus), Commercial (Casino building pre-Castro), or Religious (for their dominant loyal Catholicism). I personally prefer Expansionist.

Special Unit: Mounted Warrior AND Panzer. This shows how different the Cuba we know today is from it's Native-American-esque roots. Unit restrictions below will even out this advantage.

Unit Restrictions: Cuba's technology isn't top-notch and if they DO have something threatening, it's been stolen or traded. Thus, I believe that they should be limited to Bombers and Helicopters as Air Units (and the missiles of course!).

Cuban Cities:
Santiago De Cuba
Varadero
Cayo Coco
Trinidad
Cayo Largo
Marea Del Portillo
Guardalavaca
Cienfuegos
Playa Giron
Sancti Spiritus
Pinar Del Rio
Guantanamo
Granma
Holguin
Ciego De Avila
Camaguey
Villa Clara
Playa Larga
Viñales
Cayo Guillermo
Cayo Santa Maria

Interesting. I'd think Militaristic and Religious probably. You can only pick one UU though and it's certainly not the Panzer. Unique Units represent a 'flagship' type of unit which that civ had at it's *height* of power in the world. So...when was Cuba's height of power?

probably the 60's when they had the Russian missiles aimed at Florida.

so maybe a customized missile... but what really defines the Cuban military though was Castro's Revolutionaries.

Is it possible to make Sam 2's?

I'm not sure how missiles work in Civ3 yet, and I only have access to it on weekends for awhile. I'm assuming you have to put it in something.

Is it possible to make a missile that can be fortifide in a city, be launched from the city, and turn an aircraft into scrap metal?

This would be Cuba's UU, and actually was during the Cuban missile crises. It would allow Cuba to have no aircrafts available to them at all and still defend itself from others.

Probably can't be done, though, with my luck.

As far as I can tell you can have as many unique units as you want. I'm working on adding a 2nd UU to each existing civ in a diferent age to the existing ones.

Hmm.. I think it would be possible if you used a fighter (old or modern or stealh) as the missile while using a missile graphics over it. It would intercept that bomber. However, you will have to sacrifice one of those fighters for the Cubans, meaning they will have to make do without a fighter. Well, you have 3 types of fighters to choose from :D

So, let me get this straight. I can make an aircraft that looks like a missile but has the stats of a fighter, and it will destroy bombers? Can I make it considerably more powerful then a fighter? Because that would be Cuba's special unit and their only aircraft, and just having a clone of a fighter really wouldn't be fair.

I forgot to add some other things...

Shunned government: Democracy
Aggression level: between right and center
Culture group: North America
Build never: Air Units (except missiles), Knight
Build often: Marines, Tank, Tactical Nuke

Great Leaders:
Carlos Manuel de Céspedes
Antonio Maceo
José Martí
Julio Antonio Mella
Antonio Guiteras
Bles Roca
Gerardo Macado
Ernesto Ché Guevara
Emiliano Zapata

Yes you can do all that but it won't die like a missile after combat. (unless fighters do)

Well... that's a real road-block, isn't it?

I would really like to make this civ. Anybody have any ideas?

The faster you help me understand this editing stuff, the less annoying I'll get with my ignorance and constant questions :)

there HAS to be a way to make a ground-to-air missile that blows up planes and destroys itself too... i wish i had my comp right now...

I wonder if you added the cruse missile ability to it if that would have the desired efect?

The UU could be MiG 29's! The Cubans air force is made up of almost entirely of these, and maybe Su- 27's would fit in better, but how do missles relate to cuba? They could also have some form of a Guerilla, I wish Civ 3 still had these babies, they could have ambushes, but a defence of 1, but they can retreat if attacked. That would be super! And instead of attack they could have bombard! And maybe invisibility like a sub. hose would be good units, but the Cubans, not for them.

Any suggestions on what stats a Mig 29 should be?

Hmm isn't it possible to put it like a fighter but at the same time get destroyed like a missile? I don't know because I haven't tried the editor myself :crazyeyes

OK, I said I would make this civ and I swear I will. I pulled myself away from my game this weekend and I started to make Cuba.

I got pretty far until I realized I had to go through every unit and individually make them available to the Cubans. So, I said to myself "I'll do it later" and proceded to massacre the Babylonians. :king:

Is there an easier way?

I begin working on the Cuban mod tomorrow night (not that any of you really care) with MiG 29's as their UU.

This is your last chance for suggestions...

I forgot I need some questions answered first...

First off, in the actual mod scenario the Cubans will replace Aztecs because they are both Militaristic/Religious. But the ZIP will also contain all the info you need to manually ADD them to the game (civ3mod) instead of having to load the scenario.

Color??? I'd say yellow if the Eqyptians didn't have it, and I'm not sure if that color bug will still be around after the patch is made. If not, then it'll HAVE to be light purple.

MIG PIC??? Should I just make it the same pic as the F-15 or should I just make it look the same as a Jet Fighter? UNLESS somebody is willing to make a MiG pic that works smoothly like the graphics in the game and sending to me. I would be forever in your debt. I'm making graphics of Castro like the leaders in the game and I really don't want to deal with units too.

Any suggestions on the sciences they should start with? Remember they are Militaristic/Religious.

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciatted.
