I like democracy, but usually end up in communism cuz the AI insists that I crush it mercilessly. Gotta roll out the bad guys and annihilate those silly civs...

Even so, I can get a new tech every 3 turns or so. Sometimes, tho, I ignore the AI's sneak attacks and stay in democracy. Then it's off to AC while the AI researches conscription and railroad!

My favourite government is fundamentalism cause there is no unhappy people and you get fanatics.

I would go for Fundamentalism to :goodjob: Although it does seem to make the game a bit too easy somethimes so its probably the best government for newbies and the not so good players.

I tend to go for democracy fairly early and stay with democracy until I decide to attack the AI then my favorite is fundamentalism.

Republic has to be my favorite.

I tend to graduate through govs as my civ advances. Democracy is a pain in the ass if you have to send out military. If I have all of my city improvments built and need some quick cash I'll occasionally switch to fundamentalism.

Usually I just stick with Republic.

Grafixx:king:

A pinko Commie civ celebrating "we love days" is a corruption free Republic with 3 free units per city and no Senate interference.

Vet Spys.

Tsk. So many fundy fanatics here.
Mine is democracy. Nothing can rival it for science, or economic growth, and managing unhappiness is very easy. It is the best for getting a good score, as there is more trade = more luxuries = more happy citizens.
Fundy is for those who prefer an extremely easy game without extending themselves.
The true challenge is to create a huge army under democracy, and use skill to fight a war.
I never understand why people value fanatics so much. They are quite useless IMO. Despite not having to pay for their support, they are still fodder for Stealth fighters.

War under democracy requires the use of intelligence operations, and an army from many cities. Stealth Fighters and Fighters do not cause unhappiness, so they are useful, and allow one or two bombers or battleships from each city. An airpower war works the best, and is thus accurate to the policies of democracies when Civ2 was made.
Only a small ground force is required, armor or mech inf for fast movement. A few helicopters are useful for occupation, as are paratroops.

It comes down to what your style and goals are. If you want a quick hack and slash that isn't challenging, then fundy is the go. If you want to extend yerself and score well, democracy is good. Communism is quite alright, but has major deficiencies against democracy.

Only if you bugger it up bigtime. All it needs is a little care and anticipation, and there should be no problems.

I go to Democracy until I get to about Rocketry, and then I switch to Communism, because by then my Empire is large enough for Communism to Give me lots of money, science, and a large military without regrets. Communism is so much better than Democracy because Democracy has the Senate, and unhappy people with no Martial Law. Communism can make just as much money and science.

It comes down to a preference of quality, or quantity. You can have Commie or Fundy, and have lots of units. Or you can have a democracy, and have the UNMATCHED benefits in trade, money and science at the same time as having an effective army.

Your forces are immune to bribery; the enemy isn't. A common way to build up the troops is to "go shopping" among the enemy forces. This will mean that you then only have to build bombers and battleships, at the most, as fighters do not cause unhappiness.

The Senate is no problem at all, if you have the right combination of wonders. As I said before, it is quite easy to maintain complete happiness in a Democracy with 3 units out from each city. The ST city can also go beserk and build as many as you want, with no detriment.
If you get into a war of attrition, you are employing the wrong strategy; a well planned and executed war does not require huge amounts of assets, just the right type.

It is a question of personal style, but Democracy does have the most rewards.

Who says you can't have quality and quantity together? My commies have probably the same type of units you do, but much more of them. I agree, airpower is the best, for any government. For every city, the average units it supports is 12, not counting defending units. Of those, most of them are fighters, bombers, Paratroops, and Naval units. I rarely use ground offense, with the exception of spys. Spys are a major part of my strategys, and they are automatticley veteran under communism.

Communism, though not as Econommincley sound as Democracy, can still generate a large heap of gold and science. During my Democracy phase, until Rocketry, I use the same ideals you do, and I build ST, UN, JSB, and all the Democratic wonders. Communism doesn't NEED any wonders to operate efficiently.

Be that as it may, but a democracy can have a very large army without even having to support it, through bribery. Communism can give money and science, but nowhere near the levels that a booming power democracy can.
Don't really bother with Paras to a large extent, as the AI builds a lovely railroad network for my expeditionary force to use:D
The aim of the game is to win, and through democracy, you have the upper hand in any method, conquest or spaceship.
A democracy is immune to spy warfare, but can wage it itself with impunity.

You are right, of course. But didn't you say earlier that it was a challenge to wage war in democracy?

Very much so, I agree that Democracy has the medal in moneymaking and research. But nearing the end of the game, research is anything but as inportant as it was earlier.

Actually, I am beginning to agree with you, Democracy is the better choice  Your words have influenced my ideals, I am now a democrat!

I like to play with democracy until I have gone all the way through the tech tree. Then, it only makes sense to switch to Fundamentialism with 80% luxories for happy people and tons of money.

That's only when the fun starts as a democracy!
Fiddle the tax rate a little, and you are picking up Future Techs every round or more, getting tons of money, and having very happy people in VERY big cities.
Also maintaining a pet civ or city.;)

I like communism the best. 80% max rate is good, you dont have a senate, and you dont need too many wonders. Also, even when I have a lot of wonders, a lot of cities (especially, for some reason, Kiev) tend to have a very cowardly mayor, if you know what i mean. I do great games in communism.

PS: What does the senate say when you nuke sombody ure not at war with?
