Hey guys. We're trying to track down any problems that are new to v1.16f (the second one) and things listed in the readme.txt that don't work. We already know about the title boxes drawing on advisor screens for resolutions higher than 1024x768 and workers on automation not piling on like they used to.

If you're having a problem, please uninstall the patch, uninstall the game, and reinstall both and see if the problem persists. v1.07f Saves load in v1.16f, but if the weirdness vanishes if you start a fresh v1.16f game, chalk it up to a version problem.

Thanks.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

The main issues I am having is the crashing. Every 20 or so turns. Without the patch it never crashes. Not sure what is causing it, but try this attached save game. It will consistently crash for me at the end of the turn. Not sure if it will for you. As of now, I have uninstalled the patch because the game is frankly unplayable with it (can't get past this turn..).

another thing that bothers me a lot is the shadow under the population number, its just dosent fit on the overall clean graphics of the game.. can i make it go away??
thanx

using win98se,gforce2mx,latest nvidia drivers,dx8,intel p3 800mhz,256ram.

well this one is not really a bug but more of an issue. Can you revert the pop numbers to display the way it was before? It seems to look good on XP but not on WIN98 since it doesnt have cleartype.

Oh..here are my system specs:

HP Pavillion 9694c
800 Mhx Athlon
Riptide Sound
TNT Vid (I think)
256M Memory
2 60G drive
DirectX 8.1

That save game looks/works fine in XP. I also have nVidia card (GeForce 2 pro) and 21.83 drivers (latest official drivers).

Perhaps it's unique to Win98? :(

Actually they just came out with 23.11.

Jeff, I had a really bizarre occurrence since downloading and installing the second patch. Near the completion of one game, around 2028 or so, I was competing with two other civilizations, each having about the same number of cities and area as I had. A message popped up out of the blue to the effect that "The Greeks have destroyed the Babylonian Civilization". This Bab. civ. had like 25 cities and massive area, and suddenly it was gone.

Then, to my surprise, on the following turn, there was a popup message stating that "You have lost decisively" and the game ended. The odd thing was that I had a much higher point, power, culture, and "score" than the other two civs in the ending screens?

Was more concerned with how an entire continent with 25 cities could be suddenly destroyed in this immediate fashion. I was playing on the regent level.

OK..not a huge bug..and I have posted it before..but I will post it here just because it is the official place to post bugs.

My info box and menu button dissapear occasionally. The game doesn't crash out or anything. I just cannot see my research or click those handy buttons on top..becasue they aren't there. I can get them back by clicking into a city screen and then back..and woila! They have returned. I have not heard anybody else having this problem though.

XP on a Gateway solo 9300 XL.

PIII-750 288 MB.
ATI Rage Mobility 8 MB.

Other than that..I have had little problems.

Sometimes..I have noticed enemy units are NOT animated. This is when I have all animations on. Then it comes back.

I also am having frequent crashes with the patch. I recently installed DirectX 8.1 and the newest nVidia drivers for my Geforce -- before I patched actually. I don't know if it's the patch or the drivers or both, but I cannot play at all now and the original with the old drivers was as stable as a rock. I'm running Win '98. The crashes are always page faults.

I'll try the uninstall reinstall idea later today. Any other suggestions?

After a few turns into the game, when I go to my foreign advisor, the relationship lines no longer appear. I have embassies with everyone. Even the lines in the legend no longer appear. This never happened pre-patch.

I have to quit out of Civ 3 and restart to get them to show up again. Then they'll disappear again after a while.

There were only two civs left, I had complete control of my continent and France had complete controls of theirs. I was preparing for the final war by moving all my troops to a coastal city to ship over to France. For far off cities, I'd click the little arrow 'goto' at the bottom of the screen and then click the coastal city. Three times moving a modern armor from a captured city it would stop outside of another captured city and begin to fight one of my own Mech. Infantries. I thought that was rather odd.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem that Arnel mentioned above, but it's probably related. The digits of the city population numbers are looking a little odd. For single digit numbers, the shadow effect looks fine, and for double digit numbers the right number looks fine, but the left number's shadow is too thick. It is perhaps offset by an extra pixel too many. I'm running Win95, so I don't know if this has anything to do with the font "features" of later Windows versions.

Otherwise, the game seems to be running fine.

1: Disappearing relationship lines in Diplo screen (VERY BAD BUG!)

2: Graphic artifacts from previous screens (like the main map screen) when in F9-F11 screens most often, but perhaps in others.

3: Sometimes the Tech tree screen is screwed up and the units/buildings avail IN the tech do not show up- the technology box is just empty.

4: Some wackiness now with Shift-P (pollution patrol workers) they sometimes don't do ANYTHING and now I have to MANUALLY move them around my empire (VERY BAD BUG! ANNOYING!!)

5: Automated workers go off into OTHER countries and HELP THEM OUT! Grrrr... STUPID FOREIGN AID WORKERS!

6: BIG BUG: The Game ALWAYS CRASHES when I try to play ANY of my custom BIC's... no matter HOW SIMPLE the changes to the BIC are...

7: Didn't come with MOO3 in the patch! Where's my MOO3 game!?

1) I am also having the no foreign advisor relationship lines.

2) This might be Ok, maybe I'm not watching what is happening very close, but it seems strange. I have a city of size six. It produces four extra food each turn. I think it has a granary and an aqueduct (not exactly sure). It has produced an extra worker the last four turns with no change in its size, or the amount of stored food. This works out great for building up the "plains city" just down the road.;)

You're using the v1.16f available on civ3.com from Saturday afternoon on? If so, please email your video card/operating system and modified date on the exe to jmorris@firaxis.com.

Your corruption tweak does not go far enough. It just moves the corruption.Maybe there was a plan here or a reason...but I don't see it.I would drastically lower corruption to make Commie more attractive.
You really need to try to reduce the frustration level in the game.A hard game is no good if ain't fun to play.

Perhaps a cheap no attack no defense leader type unit.Something that would allow some kind of stacked movement on land.Could be attached to military traditon or other military tech.Like a boat, but on land and early enough to help. This would be a unit that could be built just for transportation purposes.A very old game called Tank Commander had such a unit and it was most helpful. That one was a truck that could carry 2 units.Could be a wagon or something. At least then, the player could move, say 5 units in one shot over land.

Some kind of embassy that shows info on the others.Contacting just to monitor is very time consuming and tedious. But also neccessary in many games. This would be extremely helpful.

this isnt a bug, but a complaint

The Great Lighthouse has now been rendered almost useless. The extra movement per turn is not all that great, since magnetism shuts it down. I think many will agree that the great thing about it was that the galleys could safely traverse ocean squares. v1.16f - you cannot. Whats the point of the Great Lighthouse other than culture?

1) the lines no longer appear around settler units to preview how the borders of a prospective city would look. (they sometimes suddenly appear in the advisor screens, for some reason)

2) The city name/info box that appears on the map is completely screwed, i.e. no lines border the box the way it used to, as well as there being a black "shadow" (the best way I can think to put it) around the city population number. In a word, it looks like s***.

That's all that I've noticed so far on my 'puter, apart from that, it seems to run okay. But seriously guys, c'mon, this just isn't acceptable, do your jobs right in the first place (this is twice you've screwed us now) and we don't have to go through this song-and-dance every time. The word is PLAYTEST. Do this for more than 2 seconds and you'll make all of our lives easier.

I don't think this is new since v1.16f, but I've been able to replicate it on demand since then.

Problem: Game no longer automatically shifts to next unit when movement is finished. (The white cursor stays on the unit, even if you hit the space bar to end its turn and the little red dot appears next to the unit, indicating its movement is done.) Even if you manually click on a new unit, the game will not shift to next unit after that one is done.

To repeat: Take a naval unit, move it until one movement point is left, then bombard something (which uses the last movement point). The unit now has no movement left, but the cursor stays on it.

Side note: This isn't the only time this problem happens, but it is the only one I can get to repeat at will. Another side note: If I save the game and reload, everything works fine again. (Just have to reload the game, don't have to reload Civ3 in its entirety.)

Running Win98 on a P2-400. Voodoo family graphics card (don't recall the exact model).
