General governors thread

The main points here are that cities that are size 8 or will be size 8 soon should start building aqueducts in a queue formation. So we may have three cities building aqueducts at the same time.

Our outer cities that are unlikely to be attacked should build caravans for the distance bonuses.

Olympia and THDP can be our main wonder producing cities. Mainly because THDP is our main wonder city and olympia is our best sheild producer.

Each city should have at least 2 defenders and one attacking/diplomat. So any new cities should build one or pikeman depending on whether a pikeman is sent with the settlers.

It would be nice to see one attacking unit being produced in a rotated city and then same with pikeman, who could go with settlers to give an immediate defense.

Settlers should be built when they are needed. As we expand onto new continents we will need a larger settler production to settle the continent before the computer.

This should leave over half our cities building

Heres just some of the general pointers we should haveCaravans

Well now please discuss these points and feel free to add your own.

Also...

Librarys, markets and temples should generally be in each city although these can be built in between caravans.

Universities, Harbors and other more expensive improvements should be built less frequently but they should still be built.

This is fine, but I would like people not to lose sight of the fact that THDP is our SSC and should only start building other improvements once it has maximised its science output. I think it may currently be building a university, but this may be changed to Newton's College. If this is the case then we should change as early as possible so as not to waste too many shields and then either change to a caravan to start storing them up or to a wonder to get a head start on it. After it is finished we can build a university, and then a harbour and a sewer system would be wise. Once these improvements are in place and it is churning out beakers each turn then we can look at building banks or supermarkets to fill in the time until the superhighways arrive. :goodjob:

I'm fine with all of the above. If it's OK with everyone that I continue playing for a while, then I'll try to follow the thread the best I can.

With THDP, I would like to keep the university building. We can build Newton's with caravans, and until we have enough we can let the city keep the university going. When we have enough caravans for Newton's, the university can be rushed and then Newton's built in its entirety the next turn.

If we want sewers, we'll have to consider Sanitation soon. Or see if someone else has it...

Agreed. Build Leo's first, then push hard on Caravans intended for Newtons. Then, once enough Caravans are built, complete the Univ. and build Newtons right after.

This all sounds good to me. I am with Duke on the THDP university - when Newtons is availible, complete the university (preferably by rush building) and build Newtons next.

Glad you all liked my list of points. This should be better and less time consuming than taking screenshots of all the cities, that do not actually change much...

Can I just ask a favour of the governors. Rather than putting screenshots of every city up at the end of each turn, could you stick the statistics of each city in a thread (this one)? The number of shields, beakers, gold and food produced per turn, how many turns until the city grows (approximately would probably be better for you) and how many shields the current production has. It wouldn't take as long as posting screenshots, but would be much easier to access and to update.
If it's too much work for you then don't worry about it and we can make do somehow, but I think it would streamline things somewhat. And save TF's server space. :goodjob:

Maybe...

I will see how much time I have because it will still be quite time consuming.

Yeah, we should probably divide the cities somehow. As for the statistics, I like the idea. I will probably have a few hours left for it tomorrow, so if Dell does not have the time I could post the statistics for all cities.

Yes I have access to MGE and thats show I have been able to take screenshots for the last few months. Not sure about Spice though...

I have access to MGE. :) I just have never been allowed to download the saved game until today.

I just finnished the requested summary. Since it was unclear what province some of the cities belong to, I took the liberty to assign them one. The provinces now contain the following cities:

Luna: Olympia, Dreadtown, Hippoville, Viroconium, Cornmaster, Dellville, Dukeshire and Spice Haven for a total of 8 cities.

Phobos: TheHolyDuckPond, Potpolia, Athenae, Fort Pornstar, Kevholm, Becka-Becka and Pellaken Bay for a total of 7 cities.

Deimos: Spycatcher, Sixchan, Unknown City, Joespaniel, Dover, Mpondo, Marl Down and Thunder Falls for a total of 8 cities.

I made one summary for each province and posted the ones for Phobos and Deimos. This means that only I and the moderators can update them, so I might as well volonteer for governor of Deimos too. In doing this there is no longer any need for me and Dell to divide the cities - we can keep the province borders for now which is a good thing later on when (if?) we get more players.

Dell, in case you haven´t had the time to do a summary yet I will pm you the one I made for Luna to post yourself so you can edit it. If you prefer to make your own one I will not be offended in any way... :)

I will soon set up discussion threads, one for each of my provinces.

Edit: If someone would like the summaries to contain more information, please let me know and I will add it.

No I think I will keep it because it includes practically all the informaton that we will need.

Dell, you might want to check the summary I sent you in case a fault or two has made its way into it. :) I just noticed one in the Phobos thread - I had forgotten to add an aqueduct to the improvement list of Athenae.

Okay I will check it later tonight. A few minor errors shoudln't be too bad and it will just mean that Kev will have to make some minor adjustments when he plays the game.
