I have downloaded a bunch of modpacks for new civs ,leader pics and new units.

I dont know how to add them to my game.

Can anyone explain me in simple language how to do this?

For example, I donloaded the Arabian Horseman, and did all that was written in the readme file but I couldnt use it in the game.

I would like to add as much as units and new civs as possible.

Sorry if I ask too much.

Did you create the unit in the editor?

... I created the files and copied the downloaded unites to them.

For example, I downloaded an Arab Horseman.

I created a folder named "Arab Horseman" where I put in the downloaded information about the unit.

So I got something like this:

d:\Games\Civ3\Art\units\Arab Horseman

In that folder I put these files:

Arab Horseman.INI

ArabDeath.flc

ArabFortify.flc

ArabAttackA.flc

ArabDefault.flc

ArabRun.flc

Then I went to the D:\GAMES\Civ3\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\units and put in these files:

ArabHorsemanlarge.pcx

ArabHorsemansmall.pcx

Then I went to the Editor and created the unit by doing these actions:

1.Add (new unit)

2.Naming new unit as "Arab Horseman".

Here is where I got stuck...I looked for the unit between the icons, but I couldn't find it.So I must miss some files or have forgotten some steps.

I have found this text file as a helping hand when downloading the Arab Horseman and tried to use it but I got stuck at the place I mentioned earlier:

WHAT TO DO:

1) Double left click Civ3Edit
(this can be found on your PC by clicking on "start", then "Programs", then "Infogrames_Interactive", then "Civilization_III", then "Civ3Edit".
You can also find it by using Windows Explorer, or you may already have the Civ3Edit icon on your desktop)

2) In Civ3Edit you will see a blue ocean with some artic ice along the top. Above the ice you will see some
controls: left click on "Tools", then "Use_Default_Rules" and click on "OK".

3) Now left click on "Rules", then "Edit_Rules", then look for the "Units" tab and click that. You will now see the edit CivIII rules screen,
with the settler unit highlighted.

4) We now come to the clever bit....click "Rename" and in the popup screen press "cancel", then press the "A" key on your keyboard
(pressing the "D" key on the keyboard will delete the settler: this is how units can be added/deleted from CivIII). A new popup has
appeared called "Add Unit Type". Type the name Horse Archer and click "OK".

5) We have now created a new unit called "Horse Archer", but at the moment it looks like a settler. No problem, just click the icon box
and get to number 66 to give the new unit the Horse Archer picture.

>So as you may have noticed, I couldn't go any further cause there was no Arab Horseman in the iconbox not even at number 66.

Please can you fill in my gaps?

Oh, and I have noticed the Arab Horseman doesnt have any soundfiles... like many other units.. What to do about that?

I thank everyone in advance for taking the time helping me out especially the experts to whom it shouldn't be such a big problem I hope ;)

Does having the icon really matter to you? I've downloaded and installed over 10 units and haven't bothered adding the icons to them.

Just select the default horseman icon or something - or even leave it as the settler if you don't care; the unit will still work in the game.

Have you selected the civs in the unit editor which you want to use the Horseman? If you don't, you won't see it in the game.

Are you saving the .bic file after you make the changes in the editor? If so, are you loading that same .bic file when you try to play a new game? If you want the horseman to appear in a regular game, you have to load civ3mod.bic in the editor and make the changes there.

As far as the soundfiles go, it just uses pre-existing sound files from other directories, that's why there's no sounds in the 'Arab Horseman' directory (although if you open the Arab Horseman.ini file you'll see exactly what files it links to).

Wow thanks for your help!
