Since I had plenty of time to read about it while the forum was down, I figured I'd post it for everyone else.

[From the Main Site]

The Civ2 Game of the Month continues with this 16th game. As you can see from the screenshot, the starting location is really great with whales, coals, and good amount of plains and hills. Even better, you start with two settlers units! Don't be too happy though because extra goodies at startup usually means the map is going to be a tough one (i.e. you may be on a small island).

Here are the game parameters:

Emperor Level
Medium Map
7 Civs
Persians
Start with Bronze Working and two settlers

By the way, if you don't have Civ2, you can buy it at Amazon.com for only $9.99. You can then download Cedric's Patch to convert it into Civ2 Gold for free so you can play all those great Civ2 scenarios. Long live Civ2!

If Lucky didn't remind me in the chat room, I probably would have forgotten about it. :o

I like the return to 7 civs.
I actually managed to finish last month's game, so if I start this one and don't farm, maybe I'll get this one in too.

Yeah, the forum downtime had something good after all.

I entered the chatroom, reminded TF and even persuaded him to use 7 civs.
:yeah:

I might even try to play this one to the end, let´s see how the Deity Civ3 GOTM works out for me!
:D

hey..I thought I was gonna make this one?....I had a nice no huts emperor scenario all ready to go.....

I'm playing TF's game with the Settler from None and huts, hoping its not Pangea again. Emperor is nice -- it's 1850 BC and I still get 2 content people per city!

Sorry about that. I forgot about it totally... You can post the Civ2 GOTM saves starting next month if you want. :)

what's the Civ 2 GOTM deadline? I can't find that little nugget of info in the GOTM section.
A related question: does anyone know the deadline for the Civ3 GOTM?
Thanks all.

Civ3 GOTM: Posted every 1st of the month, deadline 2nd of next month!

Civ2 GOTM: Posted every 3rd of the month, deadline 5th of next month!
:D

Thanks, Lucky. I can't say I'm sorry the Civ 2 GOTM deadline passed me by this month -- I'm already into the 1800s and am now just now starting to get together my invasion force. That'll learn me to build an empire on a small map w/ only a few civs ...

 hmmz....this one is going slow for me....dunno what the year is...1500 or something. Couple o' civs gone, working on the last two....

I for my part haven´t started yet. I am still waiting for the results of last months GOTM.
 Hint, Matrix, hint! ;)

I have to decide which strategy to follow!
:D

Do you have to play it with MGE?

Or do people actually use the diplomatic friendly version 242?

either is fine.

You can use all Civ2 versions except ToT. :p

But to view the savegames of other players, located in the archive, you need MGE.
:D

With a slight adjustment in tactics, MGE can be used to take advantage about the "hostility". Personally, I self-impose a rule that I never break treaties or finish with less than a "Spotless" record. This gives the AI a somewhat better advantage, as I think even MGE is not hostile/adept enough. Of course, if you bet the survival of your civ on the AI keeping its word, well.... PT Barnum once said it all ("There's a sucker born every minute..."). :)
