Candidate: Chiefpaco for Foreign Affairs Advisor

1) Do you regularly attend chat turns? If no, will you do so when elected? If not, why?
Yes. I have attended many chats over term 2. I am a regular in the chat room so drop by when you can and say hello or let me know how life could be better in Phoenatica.

2) What are your qualifications for the position?
Being a vocal and opinionated citizen. I spent my last term representing the citizens as a Councilmember and have spent time lobbying in the Foreign Affairs thread and among the Foreign Affairs' proposals.

3) What are your overall goals for Phoenatica? How will you use your position to further those goals?
My goal is to ensure we are the greatest empire. In the position of the Foreign Affairs advisor, I will lead our effort to maintain a high level of respect from our citizens and our fellow nations. Our allies will prosper and those that continue to attack us will not succeed.

4) Which parts of the Democracy forum do you read? All of it? Cabinet threads? Citizen groups?
I regularly read all the forums and keep updated all the time.

5) Do you vote in the polls? If not, why?
6) If elected to a cabinet position will you vote in the Cabinet Polls? If not, why?
Yes and Yes. I have served as a cabinet member and have voted in every poll I possibly can. I will continue to do so.

7) If you are the highest Chain of Command link present at the appointed turn chat hour are you willing to take responsibility for running the game during that session?
Yes. I have in the past. I will again.

8) Do you feel that the primary role of a cabinet member is to operate within the boundaries of the constitution? Or do you feel that the constitution is a document open to your interpretation?
I feel that the written constitution is binding, but questions regarding its contents and support to make changes is part of democracy. I will gladly lead changes, if support warrants it.

9) Term 2 saw the unexpected retirement (or attempted retirement) of several elected officials. Do you see any reason why you could not serve your full term in office if elected?
Not presently. In term 2, I had the chance to step in and fill the role of the Senior Councilmember and filled this role to the best of my ability.

10) What method of victory do you advocate for Phoenatica?
11) Briefly describe how your election would advance that victory condition.

I believe we are well on our way to achieving cultural domination. However, we need to be prepared for any circumstance. Maintaining strong relations with favoured nations and a capable military to respond to crises will be our tools to protect our country and ensure victory.

I also wish to maintain our good relations to friendly nations so that we may assist and be assisted. Our enemies will not receive our support and we will attempt to gain allies against them. Public opinion will lead our attitude towards other nations and I will lead us in the best way I can in this respect.

For current officials running again
12) What were the high points of your administration? What did you do that would make the citizens vote for you again?

13) In your past term did you have to act against your impulses to support popular (poll) decisions? When? Did you ever follow your impulses despite contrary popular decisions?

For candidates without prior elected office
14) What mistakes were made in the last administration and what would you have done differently?
In term 2, I represented the citizens of Phoenatica as a Councilmember. By polling, I was able to represent the citizens in cabinet votes. By voting with the citizens, I sometimes had to go against my own desire, but I always remained honourable to the citizens. As a high point, I took it upon myself to encourage citizen participation and made many inquiries into how the game was to be improved. Hence, I helped lead the "Power To the People" campaign.

Now I wish to keep in touch with the citizens in the matter of Foreign relations. The previous terms were excellently led. The paths for new Foreign Advisors is paved by strong policies and public opinion polls. If mistakes were made, new policies were formed to avoid them in the future. I wish to continue this.

For all candidates
1) Do you regularly attend chat turns? If no, will you do so when elected? If not, why?
I have not regularly attended in the past, but have attended more since I became a citizen. If elected, I would make it a point to attend all chat turns if possible, and ensure my deputy could attend if I could not.
2) What are your qualifications for the position?
As a fairly new citizen, I would say I have no more qualification than many who reside in Phoenatica. Still, I would say my interest in continuing our little "experiment in democracy" may be sufficient qualification.
3) What are your overall goals for Phoenatica? How will you use your position to further those goals?
My overall goal is Victory! To ensure that victory we must have a foreign policy that enables us to maintain our position of pre-eminence.
4) Which parts of the Democracy forum do you read? All of it? Cabinet threads? Citizen groups?
In the past I have read primarily the citizen threads. If elected, I would of course read more cabinet threads as well.
5) Do you vote in the polls? If not, why?

6) If elected to a cabinet position will you vote in the Cabinet Polls? If not, why?

7) If you are the highest Chain of Command link present at the appointed turn chat hour are you willing to take responsibility for running the game during that session?
Yes, yes, and yes.
8) Do you feel that the primary role of a cabinet member is to operate within the boundaries of the constitution? Or do you feel that the constitution is a document open to your interpretation?
The primary role of a cabinet member is to operate within the boundaries of the constitution. However, that constitution is a living document, and may be changed by the will of the citizenry.
9) Term 2 saw the unexpected retirement (or attempted retirement) of several elected officials. Do you see any reason why you could not serve your full term in office if elected?
Unfortunately, I would have to answer yes. Real life has a way of intruding most ungraciously. While I do not foresee this happening during this next term, the possibility for me is very real.
10) What method of victory do you advocate for Phoenatica?

11) Briefly describe how your election would advance that victory condition.
I believe we are on the road to Cultural domination. As I have often said in SGs, I am a builder, not a warrior. However, my peaceful, culture-victory stance will not prevent me from backing our military leaders in "foreign adventures" if I feel they are necessary to our security or to our goals.

For candidates without prior elected office
14) What mistakes were made in the last administration and what would you have done differently?
I think Shaitan did a wonderful job. Indeed, if he were running again, I would vote for him. I just hope I would be able to do as well.
