Term 2

These are the discussions for Term 3 of the Department of Trade.

Trade Leader - Chieftess
Trade Deputy - Strider

Our policies can be found in the first post of the Term 2 link.

Oh well, leaving the Trade Department, no more having my "monopoly" on luxuries

There are some loose ends which I no longer have authority over. A poll may need to be held to decide whether to trade saltpeter to Babylon. This poll should be held as soon as possible to have sufficient time for voting before the 2/6 turn chat. Some coordination with FA is needed as they also propose to obtain contact with the English through their negotiations.

Here is the relevant thread:

Congrats zur on becoming my deputy..... And congrats Cheiftess for becoming my leader(That sounds weird but anyway). I will have to do alot to match zur for this poistion, but I can try my best :)

And I will have a lot to do to match you on your previous position ;)

We have many active deals that are not expiring, but deserve re-examination, IMHO. Will the trade department also address active deals when forming their next proposal? Some I believe are good while others do not seem to serve us well.

There is already one deal with India that I am looking into, if we choose to renegotiate.

The trade deputy is back!!!! Now that I'm back I can get everything updated. Lets see I need to post the Citizen honors, work with the science thread, make the science proposal, fix the Citizen Honor Dicussion and Nomination, and alot more. :)

Now let me count how many links I posted.

This is a reminder too all cabinet members and governers to post their turn chat instructions here for tonight's turn chat, if you haven't done so already.

Trades for 6/5 turn chat

Rome - Has 16 gold in treasury. Unable to make a decent trade.

Aztecs - Has 3 gold. Currently trading Incense, Ivory, and Iron (which they reconnected!)

India - Renegotiate Ivory for Silks deal
Ivory --> World Map, 18 GPT, 90 gold up front (98 in their treasury)

They are willing to trade Steam Power for Ivory WM, and 810 gold (very pricey...)

Babylon - No viable trades. They do want a WM and 780 gold for their furs.

China - No viable trades (they are broke). They will give us a worker for 25 gold.

Zulus - 26 gold total (They're out of their economic depression!)

Incense or spices --> WM, 4 GPT, 20 gold

Iroquios - Doesn't want to trade Steam Power unless we renegotiate our dyes for 3 GPT trade. SP for dyes, WM, and 670 gold (pricey...)

Greece - Current Ivory deal: 18 GPT.

We can renegotiate for 12 GPT, and 140 gold upfront. (that's equal to 7 more GPT).

Are we about to lose our silks again? We have the lux rate at 0%. Losing silks could take us our of WLTKD mode. What will it take to keep the silk imports?

If we were to get their silks, that would be atleast a WM and 500+ gold. We also got British wine along the way, so I don't know if that stimes the effect (or the lack of it).

The Department of Foreign Affairs humbly asks for the co-operation of the Trade Department for the next round. Details of the Foreign Affairs Proposal, along with FA trade recommendations may be found here:
Foreign Affairs Proposal for June 12 turn

Also, may I suggest that our gems deal with the Iroquois be cancelled so we may claim the gems for our own people?

The President's office asks that the trade department re-open the wine route to England and to stop the exports of our only gems to the Iroquois.

I'm missing the trade proposals we used to be able to discuss and come to a consensus on before chat-time. I don't see yet a citizen debate thread on it this term but the last one I see was from Zur's term 2 office. All I can find is one proposal in this thread for a chat the same day.

Is this a change in Trade procedure? Is the Trade department busy in other affairs? Can we make things like they used to?

I have made some specific trade proposals as well for this term. Not to cover all the other nations, but those that interest the FA. Will the Trade Department endorse these? Chieftess? Strider?

Trade proposals are at the bottom of the Foreign Affairs Proposal thread:
Foreign Affairs Proposal for June 12 turn

(let me see if this link works. if not, you can use the link i posted a few posts ago here and scroll down about 8 posts into the thread)

Intentional double-post. Please answer if you can. If not, I think trade deals should fall under the direction of the citizens. I also think last-minute proposals tend to seem a bit autocratic to me.

Chieftess? Strider?

The fact of the matter is, The trade of medicine is what we voted on. I already posted (in the chat logs, atleast) what the trades were. I see no need to repeat myself, as these were the trades that were ignored.

The matter was discussed and voted on in the turn chat. I don not see why we should discuss what was already voted on - The trades to the nations mentioned in the turn chat.

In the turn chat the vote was to *sell medicine*. That is a very generic command. Are we selling it to only one country or as many as possible. Are we going to prioritize our selling according to our foreign policy, especially in light of the current war?

I must also formally ask that the trade department post specific instructions in the the turn thread rather than proposals. A proposal is a suggestion while an instruction is a command. I will be more than happy to assume that any trade department commands in the turn chat thread relating to trades have the tacit apporoval of the citizenry. :)

Hee is the turn chat thread.

Is it possible for the trade department to determine the cost of acquiring replaceable parts through trade? We have a deal with the Iroquois that will expire soon. Perhaps we can get this tech in that trade.
