Fanatika - Where did everybody go?
I am starting revolution talk based on the ideals of Democracy.

I believe it would serve us better in:
- Improved relations with all the other empires who are Democratic. This includes all empires except for England, who lack the knowledge.
- Lower corruption in our empire.
- Faster workers to complete our railroad.

Who's with me?

I agree. It will also ease our cash flow to improve research & CAP.

Democracy is good!

We cannot wage a prolonged war effectively under Democracy. Our current (and past) policy does not carry a provision for an offensive war. It's also doubtful that we will ever become a warmongering nation. The only wars we have ever been involved in were defensive. We now have the political clout to ensure that wars are short lived and well supported by our allies.

Our railroad would be built in one half the time.

Our cash flow and production would increase 15-25%.

We would have several turns of anarchy.

3 out of 4 ain't bad! I say go for Democracy.

Hmm, it would seem right for the Game of Democracy to support a Democracy. lol

I only suggest we not switch until we have finished Smiths.

I disagree that we should revolt. Democracy will make us a prime target for aggression by countries beyond striking range, particularly those who decide on communism or monarchy. They will be able to harm us by declaring war without actually engaging. We will be forced to pay for peace treaties as war weariness takes effect. I do not wish to be at the mercy of rogue states. We may even be forced to change governments at some point because of an aggressive neighbor. In my opinion, democracy will be a less stable government. As far as it's benefits, democracy does improve the efficiency of our workers, which is actually overkill since we are industrious. Corruption will not be reduced by much, overall. Also, should we need to declare war, even if only to defend one of our friends, war weariness will be a killer within just a few turns. Finally, it will take many, many turns of reduced corruption to make up for the 4-7 lost turns of income during anarchy.

Welcome back Eyrei.
I am all for going for Democracy after a discussion on the effects of how and where the period of anarchy will hurt us the most. But I feel we should move quickly towards a revolution after this.

we have been oppressed by this bougois society long enough!!!!!
the time has come to rise up and take the power of the people for the people

If we are intending to make a move to democracy, I suggest we concentrate all (and I do mean all) of our resources on winning the race to universal suffrage. Even then, I would still prefer to remain a republic, but a switch to democracy would no longer be as dangerous.

Yes, I shall continue to support Republic until Espionage is discovered and we have Universal Suffrage (if not I might) but as a republic their are many benefits. If we were to declare war on a neighbour, force them from a democracy into a communism or monarchy, we could use propaganda to consume their civilization. I once used up 20000 gold and consumed a Civilization, they were weakened and I was by far strengthened. We'd need gold and it would be made easier by CAP but It might be possible.

i suggest:first a war with england.capture england and then switch to democrazy.
we will have wines and more productive cities!
so just wait a bit with democracy until we beaten up england!

why go so far away? we capture iros and china and then we own the norhtern half of our continent (almost).

Although we would almost certainly win against England, the problem is that we've almost completed our FP and if we take their island, those cities will just be ridiculously corrupt, so we don't really gain much else other than the luxuries.

We should move to Democracy, and try to time it just after Smiths and the FP. The only real drawbacks are the stalled production during anarchy (which we should earn back over a few subsequent turns) and war weariness. As for the war question - has anyoneone seen the state of our forces? Best we keep peaceful methinks.
