i just wanted to get a general feeling on wether our citizenry is willing to risk another war if the possibility comes upon us.
not that we force it, just to see how moods will be if it happens to come to us.

Informational poll.
No end-date.
 
War is only viable if we can win it, and w/o great disruption to our development as a great power. Otherwise forget it. Unless the prize is too tempting.

Also depends on how many units we can afford to assign to a campaign.

We must have a viable objective before launching on a campaign.
 
this poll is not meant for starting a campaing. of course preparation is necessary. but the mood of citizenry will be interesting to know. is war acceptable? so we should prepare! is it not? well, then we should do everything to avoid it.
as you see it is just for informational purposes
 
I'm for peace at this time. We are entering a period of massive industrialization where we can build an infrastructure that will absolutely dominate the world. War would greatly reduce our efficiency in achieving complete industrialization or at a minimum make it take much, much longer to achieve. I would not want to go to war in the early or middle industrial age.

Now when we have tanks that's another story...
 
This might be better as a multipart poll (ranking):

If we are forced into war should we:
  1. Mobilize the economy and agressively prosecute the war against our opponent(s).
  2. Fight an agressive war but leave the economy alone.
  3. Establish and achieve strategic objectives and then sue for peace.
  4. Defend our lands against assault until favorable peace terms are possible.
  5. Get a peace treaty as soon as possible, limiting damage in the meantime.
 
The Department of Foreign Affairs will not officially recognize the results of this poll. While I do not object to gathering public opinion on some matters, the poll was not sponsored by the Military or FA dept. Furthermore, I do not wish to mislead the citizens to believe that this poll means anything for our nation. The purpose of this poll is very unclear. We have seen the effects of informational polls before and I do not like them.

Pro-war sentiment would be more effectively directed at the FA dept and Military Dept, who are responsible in such matters.

well, this is only an informational poll. no need to discuss wheter we go to war or not or wheter it was official or not.

this will help war-discussion in other thread. if you read the thread regularly, you will have noticed that if you only read posts and do not poll, you get different flavor of a topic.
say the warmongers are very wordy, a leader could be mislead to think the citizenry wants war (or at least is pro-war). the peacenicks will then maybe not be heard.
a poll gets more ppl to state their opinion (look at the vote count sometimes! it tells some stories!)

for example, we have 25 votes here. thats about 2 times the vote-count of other, even more important vote! its only 8 less than the presidential election had.
if you read how many ppl take part in a wordy discussion (especially if it extends to page 2 of a thread), there will be only 1-3, maybe 5 participating, which is 1/5 of the opinions we now have.

its just for information. this poll does NOT say "shall we go to war?". Its only a general mood-question. As stated from the begining.
 
I would be willing to fight a war now if we have to, but not to go on conquest mode.
 
that was my intention. to find out whether we should keep peace for any price or wheter citizens dont mind being pushed to war.
as the poll is now, i would propose a offensive/defensive 2/1 military to be built. this would ensure our defence as also making a offense in the future possible.
if the poll would have been <20% war, then i would have proposed a 1/2 in favor of defense
 
And I mean... no fear! The One is with Us!
 
War is never good. Even if we get attacked, we should defend only. Offensive wars are beneath a great nation such as Phoenatica.
