Often I get questions about civ...and I'm not ashamed to say that I am not a civipedia, such as questions like Benjamine Ball asks:
"What, exactly, causes Civ II to sometimes put a graphic in the upper left corner of the scen.txt box, and how can I make it stop? I do nothing to put the graphic there (as far as I know), I don't want it there, yet in some cases one appears anyway. Can you explain how to avoid this, or direct me to a web site with the information?
Good question Ben, and in my email gave him a couple links and I told him to look at the parameters of the scenario and give it check, then tell me what he finds...here's his answer after I sent him a bit to investigate:
"By examining the scenario parameters on the CinC and FW scenarios, I think I've worked it out: if the civilization that goes first in the game is designated the protagonist, there will be a picture. In the Jihad scenario, the Arabs go first but are not the protagonists; therefore no picture. In the Civil War scenario, which has a picture, the Federals both go first and are the protagonists. In the Apocalypse scenario, which isn't even objective-based, the Mutants both go first and have been designated (for no obvious reason) as protagonists; it features a picture. The type of picture seems to be determined by whichever unit the protagonist/first mover has in the greatest abundance. I changed the protagonist in the Apocalypse scenario to Kamikazes, and the picture disappeared when the scenario was next loaded. This seems to clinch the matter, unless you have evidence to the contrary."
I welcome any info on this phenomena if anyone knows...I've noticed this but never explored it, as I didn't pay much attention to it.
