How strong should our commitment to the Iroquois be in their losing plight against Greece and India? So far, we have been reducing trade with Iroquois' enemies while continuing to trade favourably with them. I am afraid that Iroquois will continue to lose ground in the war and may disappear to Alex's and Gandhi's armies.

What part shall we play?

I still think isolationism is the way to go, chiefpaco.

Isolationism is one of the Trade Departments policies. :)

I advocate supporting the iroquois who are a major trading partner. Should they fall into ruin our income will be adversely affected.

I agree. But how should we go about this. I am beginning to think we should enter this war. This could be accomplished by researching espionage and planting spies in either Greece or India until they get mad enough to declare war. This way, war weariness will be minimal (especially since we should complete Universal Suffrage in 4 turns) and our reputation will not be tarnished.

While I think trade with the Iroquois is important, I am more worried about the balance of power in our corner of the world.

Eyrei: To follow that path would take several turns. Where do we think the Iroquois will be at that point. If they are already beaten badly, then it will require us to take a heavy role to turn the tables.

I'd welcome our Military's assessment of the situation at this point.

Barring a clear strategy of operations and associated goals. I favor remaining neutral.

I'd hate to see us sided up against India but I felt pretty low when I learned that we refused Hiawatha's request for an alliance. The Iroquois have been fast friends for a long time and they removed the Chinese menace for us when we were ill equipped to handle the problem. I would like to help them in their hour of need.

However, an allience would mean fighting between the most favored nations, and able partners (India and Greece). We could, however, sign an MPP with India, too - build up a good defense, and let Greece have the first strike.

But, I'm not sure if that will work.

I'm voting to do nothing right now. I feel I must remind everyone that a few turns ago we sold medicine to Greece and India for a combined 96 gpt. We enter the war now we will lose that.

We have twenty some odd cavalry and India and Greece now have replaceable parts. We do not have replaceable parts (though we might be able to get it fromHiawatha in a couple turns). The battle zone is mountainous.

I don't see war as an option now.

We should render the Iros all support, short of actually entering hostilities of our own volition. If a tough stance towards the Iro's enemies results in those scum declaring war on us then bring it on!

Very good point about the trade deals. Oh well. I guess I will have to be content waiting for them to declare war on us when their armies get to big.

What about giving the Iroquois a large gift, and give them replaceable parts when we get it, for free, and then supply them with rubber if they don't have it. I really want to avoid the Indians and Greeks carving up that chunk of territory between them.

I don't trust the Greeks one bit....

According to the history dept., Hiawatha already has replaceable parts. I was hoping we could get if from him cheap when we re-do our lux deal in 2 turns - if we do that.

I think if came down to Trade Embargos, we could instead do 0 trading with them as an option. Of course, we can discuss it.

I want Alexander's head on a platter!

Oops. Did I say that out loud?

Due to the mixed opinions, it does not appear that a change in policy is required. The current system seems to be the most popular by a very small margin anyway.

Thanks for the responses.

It also looks like the Iroquois are turning the tides in this one. (Greece isn't as powerful, and everyone is jumping on the war bandwagon).
