Should we try to acquire replaceable parts by trading for it?

There was no prior discussion of this as the time between turn chats is only two days.

Greece, India, the Iroquois and Zululand all have replaceable parts. Should we try to buy this tech, which is currently third on our science queue?

If you vote one of the 'yes' choices please indicate you we should or should not buy it from.

You may only vote for one option in this poll.

This poll will remain open for one day.

We should from anyone. This will also tie in with my just to be done post on what to research.

What's a reasonable cost in your opinion?

Cost should also factor in the improvement in productivity we will achieve.

The specific nation should be determined in accordance with our preferred trading partners ranking tho the iroqouis should probably receive additional consideration at the moment.

IMHO, 150 gold, 10 gpt and a luxury. Any trade involving scientific method before we know about cascades from universal suffrage would cost too much.

I encourage all citizens to state what they think we should pay for replaceable parts.

We can research it ourselves in four turns at the rate approved by the domestic leader.

30-50/turn is reasonable to me especially with the iroquois since we are getting that much from them in trade deals

whats the cost of 4 turns of science at 60-70%? well i had a peek - we are spending 560/turn on science so 4 turns is over 2k in gold

I don't think 30gpt to the Iroquois is outrageous, but keep in mind that according to the history report, the Iroquois have just turned the tables on the Greeks and Indians as far as military strength. We should keep an eye on this.

Did anyone notice that a city has been destroyed south of Alleghany? A fine size 12 city (Iro., Tyendanaga). Caughwanaga (also an Iro. border city) has changed hands. If you notice, Iro. has lost their only supply of silks!

Anyway, I agree with Rain. I was just talking about it with her last night while we were watching an opera in PDX. ;)
12 turns for Atomic Theory, and 6 turns for Replacable Parts.

488 GPT (going for 60% to 0%). That's 8784 gold for 18 turns (minus some if the research time goes down).

For Replacable Parts:

India - Scientific Method, or 84gpt (1680 gold), or WM + 1500 gold upfront.

Oir. - Sci. Method, or 87gpt (1740 gold), or 1540 gold + world map

(didn't bother with WMs for the others, the cost is higher)

Babylon - Sci. Meth., or 93 gpt (1860 gold), or 1661 gold upfront.

Zulus - Sci. Meth. or 94 gpt

I think I can stop there. :) It looks

Judging by Chieftess' numbers, I do not see us getting Replaceable parts for any reasonable sum. It is possible to set the science rate to 80% (+89 gpt, i think) and research this tech in four turns. Considering they want around 100 gpt for 20 turns, and we can sacrifice about 70 gpt for 4 turns to get it soon, I do not think we should trade for it.

Ok. My only problem with spending this much money, is it will keep us from supporting CAP for a few turns, which I guess is fine. We must continue researching, as we can easily take the tech lead. I do not think it would be a good idea to lower the science funding to 0 to pay for this. We should be researching something else at maybe 40% science while saving the money to buy replaceable parts.

The other reason I want to pay gold up front is because, if we bought it from the Iroquois, they would benefit far more from a lump sum than from gpt. Of course, they may just use the money to buy a peace treaty...

I didn't realize a tech lead was one of our goals. It would affect our trading, purchasing, gifting, and researching policy, no?

No, I haven't noticed. Is that near Kashmir or on the India/Iroquois border?

I think we are currently selling Hiawatha two luxuries for 25 gpt. I think this deal expires in a couple turns if it hasn't already. I don't know if re-trading these two luxuries will lower the price enough to buy replaceable parts now. Perhaps the best strategy is to hold off for now on researching or buying replaceable parts. If things work out there will be no cascades to theory of evolution and we can then safely sell scientific method and get replaceable parts that way.

Those 2 cities that changed hands/are no longer, are on the Iro./Indian side.

I forget that Hiawatha is fighting a two front war. :(

Chieftess, is there any way to check on buying replaceable parts from Hiawatha using the luxuries we export to Iroquoisland?

I suggest that, should we decide to do this, we do it using almost entirely gold/turn, as this would have the least effect on our other programs. Were I playing this game by myself, I would probably use all of my extra cash to buy this, but, I am not willing to tell the military and culture departments that they cannot have any money for a while, when there is no citizen poll to back this. It seems that the money we got from trading away medicine will be sufficient to pay for this trade, though we will be slightly strapped for cash for a few turns a while from now.
