Seriously, some people on this board need to get a grip. Give it up. Yes, a spearmen could destroy a tank in reality (the odds are about the same as in the game). If civ3 was made "so" realistic, where the hell would the fun be? Go read a history book. Find a better AI. We've heard enough about Firaxis selling civ3 too early. And lastly... again, go back read a friggin' history book again.

And don't say "blah blah blah, you're a hypocrit cause you just made a post on the stuff you wanted silent". If I could express myself better without being banned, I would. Get a life.

hey you've dealt with it. and know what? you will have to deal with it for a whole lot longer for as long as you spend time on this forum. so many people spent money on these titles (myself included) and giving the guys at Firaxis the benefit of the doubt is just not good enough an excuse anymore. I, myself, have yet to give them a piece of my mind.

And don't you dare say that those who 'flame' this game go away! For this is a 'Civilization Fanatics'' Forum. This 'discussion board' is for Civ III but not limited to it. So if we want to compare this Title to its previous versions then we are entitled to it!

As of now I will hold back most of my hateful comments against this game since the next patch is just around the corner. Once again I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they really can fix this game as well as they should have.

And you people may just want to do the same. You wouldn't want to hear those "I told you so"s now, would you?

when is that patch supposed to be here Murewa?

i just read it on this site. go to civfanatics main and scroll down. you'll see an info on beta testing of the next patch. it also has a scenario editor. chills me to the bones.hehe

I think what Exsang. is getting at is that we all know that the topics listed annoy everyone who plays the game, and whinning about it just won't work.

In my very humble opinion I feel that CIVIII is great (even better that CIVIV, snicker). Also, on the same point I too am angered at Firaxis for making a game that requires so many patches. They rely on a dedicated fan base that will keep their heads up for these patches, and if it weren't for being bored at work I would never even bother to look. I am sure there are many out there playing the game with all the bugs, and for their sake I will be angry for them.

I have never gave Firaxis the benefit of the doubt, nor will I. I do believe they did the best that they could to bring out a game that was so eagerly awaited. Now did their best live up to my expectations? Did their best create the best stratagey game ever? Did their best produce a game free of errors? A resonding no.... for sure. Thus, they are added to my long list of game companies that have yet to produce the game to end all games (and patches for that matter). It is not a benefit of a doubt to Firaxis, it is a benefit of a doubt to the rather putrid display of talent that has been going into video games for the past decade, or at least since Doom came out.

Yet, in the end, we all continue to buy, play, and complain about these games we dispise so much, made by the companies we think are so stupid. Exansg., and I totaly agree, is just trying to say that he/she is sick in tired of hearing certain complaints, and that is it, but thank you for really wanting to continue to compare one crapy game to another, each of which we have wasted countless hours of our time playing.

Some people just love being ripped off by an arrogant corporation so much they even act as shills for that corporation demanding no one discuss the numerous serious problems with the game - problems Firaxis refuses to fix. Why should Firaxis bother when the gullible are out there ready to plunk down even more money for a superficial PTW disk that merely puts new makup on the same old turkey?

Suer there are those who like to complain. I have the same gripes as those listed above. Everyone is entitled to their opinion (1st ammendment and all that). I for example didn't like SMAC. It's just that i'm not so lame as to go to a SMAC forum and b**** about it. You hate the game.... fine. Live with it and go to a forum for a game you like and post there. I never understood why someone HATES a game then spends so much time ripping on it. My 1/50 of a $.

I always thought that these forums were about giving your opinion, not having people tell you what you can give an opinion on. I know it gets a bit repetitive and I too complain once in a while for the sake of it, but thats what these forums are about - giving your opinion. It's called freedom of speech. If you don't want to sift through all threads with people whining, why not get TF or someone else create a no-whining forum?

Yet again, the most vehement activists fail to see the point.

The point IS NOT that we should all forgive Firaxis or forget the issues. The POINT IS that if you go back and count how many threads in this forum are on the 6 topics listed above, you will find that they outweigh all other posts combined (yes, it is an exaggeration but you get my point). Redundancy my friends. WE ALL KNOW spearmen have defeated tanks and that civ3 is buggy. Give it up!

Finally, the issue is not your first amendment rights or freedom of speech or this, that, or the other thing. Screw it. Am I gonna stop you from posting? Am I trying to take your rights away? NO. I'm just trying to relieve my eyes from the extreme soreness after seeing the words "spearman" and "tank" in the same sentence... everyday, several times a day.

I have a very simple solution for those who are sick of threads about topics they feel have been beaten to death.

DON'T READ THEM, DON'T OPEN THEM ... PASS THEM BY.

But its not fair to tell every person who comes new onto this forum that there is ANY Civ topic that they CANNOT talk about.

That said, to those with a big problem about the game, PLEASE!! Don't repeat it ad neasum. A few times is enogh. Don't jump into a thread some noob has started about it and say it for the millionith time with blistering language. Ok, you ARE entitled to your opinion, so DO post and say "Yes you are right this is a problem in the game", even say WHY, and leave it at that ... please?? Is all the vitriol really necessary?

Lets DO try to get along ... BOTH SIDES, ok? This forum is better for having ALL of us ... and it would be better if commentary was less extreme ... by everyone. I personally REALLY REALLY hate the Naval aspect of the game and think its REALLY POOR, and occasionally I complain, ... but I don't brood or scream about it on and on ... I just mod it, at least what I can, and look forward to Civ4, and ... STILL LOVE AND PLAY THIS GAME LIKE ITS AN ADDICTION. ("Like" ??? Who am I kidding !!!)

Yes, people that complain a lot can be annoying. BUT, some of them are bound to be new to the board - and yet others have valid viewpoints on the same subject that is not heard. Why stop this? If the topic really puts some regular visitors off - the simple option is not to read it. Stifling the comments is hardly a solution.

In fact, some of the complaints are trully valid - that's why they can't be beaten down. And if forum regulars have to face the music over and over again about these - they should. Because they reflect the condition of the game, GOOD or BAD.

If we hate hearing about spearmen beating tanks, and culture reversion, etc... the problem is really because dear old Firaxis made them exist in the first place. (due mainly to really bad play testing imo)

Instead of focusing on all the negative, forum visitors who think there are redeeming qualities of CivIII can put in praise posts as well. pro-CivIII posters don't need to be passive, waiting for someone to complain about CivIII before defending it. If there is nobody stopping praise posts, then why do we stop complaint posts? Because we like to coddle each other with praises? I hope not.
